In 1955, Nino Farina, World Champion for Alfa Romeo in 1950, had decided to retire - but he wanted to drive a Ferrari powered car in the Indianapolis 500.

In 1956, with financial backing from Bardahl and considerable help from Ferrari he showed up in a Kurtis 500D chassis powered by a modified Ferrari 121LM engine, a 4412cc 6 cylinder DOHC pwerplant with 3 Weber 50 DCOA carburators.

Needless to say the car was not fast enough to qualify for the race, but is sure is pretty...

With the "Racecars of the 50's" Sub-Theme at this years NNL West I decided to build a model of this racer

I used Bud Thon's article in the May/June 1991 issue of the out-of-production "Motor Racing Replica News" magazine as a guide to build a model of this car

Here are a few photos of the model followed by the steps and products I used in building it:

Curt, this is another one of your spectacular builds, and one to be especially proud of. It's good to see this sort of unique subject matter presented to our forum.

I like that you always come up with something different , and it is always done well . I hope all your builds will be compiled in a book someday.

Very nice Kurtis-Ferrari. I never thought of using the Maser engine and 365 Ferrari cam covers! Great solution.
