curt raitz Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) In 1955, Nino Farina, World Champion for Alfa Romeo in 1950, had decided to retire - but he wanted to drive a Ferrari powered car in the Indianapolis 500. In 1956, with financial backing from Bardahl and considerable help from Ferrari he showed up in a Kurtis 500D chassis powered by a modified Ferrari 121LM engine, a 4412cc 6 cylinder DOHC pwerplant with 3 Weber 50 DCOA carburators. Needless to say the car was not fast enough to qualify for the race, but is sure is pretty... With the "Racecars of the 50's" Sub-Theme at this years NNL West I decided to build a model of this racer I used Bud Thon's article in the May/June 1991 issue of the out-of-production "Motor Racing Replica News" magazine as a guide to build a model of this car Here are a few photos of the model followed by the steps and products I used in building it: to be continued in later posts... Kinda looked like this... Extended the nose by 5/32" using miliput Maseratti 3500GT engine with Webers from parts box Resin cast the valve covers from Fujimi Daytona kit engine ready to go Body ready for primer More to come...
curt raitz Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 All parts primed, ready for some Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red All painted up...used TriMart photo-etch hinges for bonnet Wheels and tires on the chassis, had to open the center of the tires to get the wheels to fit, Firestone decals are from IndyCals, Exhaust built using solder and aluminum tubing just have to throw the decals on, attach nose and bonnet and away we go... that's all folks...thanx for lookin'
