Greg Pugh Posted June 24, 2019 Share Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) I originally built this car as a 4th grader in 1986 and did a pretty good job (IMHO...Lol). When I got back into model building as an adult, I decided to redo it. I originally had painted it pink but I wanted to take it red the next go around. After the pink was removed and I got it in primer, I happened across a photo in an old issue of Hot Rod magazine and there was a primered '37 Chevy Coupe gasser in there and the project took a whole different path. So not only is this the model that has been in my possession the longest, it's also my oldest surviving build as it was the first one I completed when I returned to the hobby almost 20 years ago now. Ensis Ferrae Posted June 24, 2019 Share Posted June 24, 2019 No pics as of yet (as they aren't done yet) . . . but I think the oldest kits in my collection, by manufacturing date would have to be the Jo-Hann Mercedez-Benz 500k, or the Heller Bentley 4.5L "Blower" Le Mans racer (the Bentley has been redone, however my copy of the kit has the decal sheet for car #8 which raced at Le Mans, all the repops I've seen are car #18) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

'70 Grande Posted June 25, 2019 Share Posted June 25, 2019 It strikes me as funny that many of the "oldest" builds in this post are of the same kit; the 1/25 AMT 1968 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang. My oldest surviving build: MPC 1/20th '69 AMX; I put it together in the early '70s (got the kit second-hand from a junior-high classmate; it was missing the lower rear pan). My first and last attempt at a fade paint job . I guess it survived because the odd scale made me less likely to part it out. Honorable mention: Monogram Cord and Duesenberg phaeton and Lindberg Mercedes SSK that my dad built in the mid-'60s. I had some health issues as a child and got to spend considerable time at Doctors and had occasional hospital stays. At 7 or so years of age, recovery at home was boring so my Dad started me building models to help pass the time. The internet is wonderful for inspiration! I have no pictures of anything I built 50 years ago, and I can barely remember the ones that I did do!
