Mr. Obsessive's "New" Obsession! :)
unclescott58 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very cool Bill. I'm glad you got a car with personality, and not another appliance. Your a car guy. You should drive something cool. (And so should I. Someday.) I like it. Scott -
Chrysler isn't Chrysler anymore
unclescott58 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why 1969? With your thinking, why not '71? The last year for the second generation Hemi. And last year before the new line of Dodge pickup trucks. I'm not getting why you picked 1969. I see no big changes in product or management at Chrysler that year. To the rest of us, welcome to the new world. I don't like it. But, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. Scott -
Ah, a polar bear plunge. People here in Minnesota have been do this for years. Mainly around New Years Day. I've lived here all of my life. And I'm of Finnish and Norwegin descent. In fact the the Finns have a tradition of jumping in frozen lakes or rolling in the snow after taking a Sauna (the greatest thing the Finns ever invented). But not I! I admit it. I'm a wimp. I admire your courage Dave. But question your sanity. Scott

What is sad John, here in Minnesota, were you get snow all of time, I see people driving around without clearing the snow off of their windows all of time! You'd think living around here, everybody would have snow brush and/or an ice scraper. For about six months out of year, I keep one on my floor in the back seat of my car. Sorry to say to all of you from California and Arizona, but I am having a hard time feeling sorry for you. The snow you got is nothing. And I'm sure it will be gone pretty quick. In the mean time, we be freezing our you know whats off, and breaking our backs shoveling, until at least March. Sometimes into April. And winter started off fast and hard here in November. So, enjoy your little taste of winter. And think warm thoughts about us poor fools in the northern climes. (Oh, and don't really feel too sorry for us in Minnesota. Those in Upper Michigan and a up state New York usually have it worst than we do.) Scott

Fantastic. Nice job. Scott -
Yea, I know they only made 7. I heard 4 were left hand drive. The other 3 right hand. But, they were the only original GT40s road legal, available in the United States at the time. I use to think they were ugly. With their round headlamps and longer tail. But, over the years they've grown on me. And it would be fun to have a model of one. But, I'm not holding my breath on waiting for that one. Scott

Another one of those classic old AMT kits I love. I built the cabriolet again a few years ago. And I will be picking up the coupe when it hits the shelves. I love the way Round 2 reissues these old classics. The old style box art, and restoration of missing parts. I'm enjoying modeling more than ever. Scott

Very nice. Like others, I too like the color. Scott

"Holy Grail" Models?
unclescott58 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The talk of Tom Daniel, brings up three of his designs I'd like to see come back. The Mean Maverick. One of great Christmas gift models (along with the Renwall Visable V-8) I ever got as a kid. And the Poison Pinto and Rat Vega. The Poison Pinto needs to be green version. There are other Tom Daniel designs I love. But, I've been lucky. They've reissued most of those and I bought copies. Some of my favorites of his that have been re-released, are the Street Fighter, Rommel's Rod, and the S'cool Bus. The Street Fighter and Rommel's Rod are finished. I need to get cracking on the S'cool Bus. I also have other TD designs like the Red Baron and Beer Wagon (built as a Mountain Dew Wagon). And I keep thinking about maybe picking up an Ice "T". Defective Round Two kits
unclescott58 replied to iBorg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had no problem getting replacement parts from Round 2 or Revell in the past. I've found customer service to be pretty good for both companies. Scott -
I love him sliding over to the passenger side of his car to threaten Milton Berle. Then realizing no body is at the wheel his car, he screams and quickly slides back to the driver's side. A second or two later he's doing it all over again. That and Johnathan Winters wrecking gas station are the two best things in a movie with lots of great moments of great comedy. Funny from Jimmy Durate "kicking the bucket", all the way through to the end. I'm glad I have it DVD. In fact talking about watching movies tomarrow night to celebrate New Years. This maybe the movie we have to watch. Scott

Yea, you've got to watch out for that. All my "school" jokes are G rated. PG at the worst. Even with the high school kids. Scott
-
Hey, none of my jokes are original, made up by me. But, I'm glad you still like it. Which reminds me, a couple of months ago I'm working with some 3rd graders that I work with from time to time (and I should be working with them again, a week from this coming Friday). At lunch, a kid at one table turns to me, telling me that another kid at their table is telling my jokes. Stealing them from me! I said, "It's okay. I didn't invent the jokes." And I told them that "I had hoped that they not only thought them funny, but would share them with others. That's part of fun of telling jokes." So if your looking for original jokes from me. Forget it. I'm not that talented. I may have a good original funny story from time to time. But as far as I know, I have never come up with a good original joke in my entire life. And that's okay. So expect more oldies, but goodies (we hope) from me in the future. In fact here is another one: I once heard of a songwriter who tried to compose a drinking song. But he could never get past the first three bars. Scott

I like the '67 Galaxie convertible from that same movie. Scott

Favorite Obscure or Discovered Music Album
unclescott58 replied to afx's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I have two. Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds. And a real obscure one, Louis de Rochemont's Windjammer. A great album sound track from an even more obscure movie of the same name. Scott -
This movie is still a favorite of mine. Love Dick Shaw in the '62 Dodge trying to run Milton Berle and Terry Thomas off the road. And you got to give Ethel Merman credit her willingness to play the character she played in that movie. Who would have thought a person of her class could have play someone so funny? Plus the gas station scene with Winters. Another great one! This movie is still great. And not just for the cars. Though the cars make it worth watching too. Scott

I'm sure I've said it before. But, I'm going to say it again. This is one of the all time great kits. I've built several over the years. And I plan on building at least one more, a custom, in the future. If you don't own one, you should. It goes together nicely. And comes with so many building options and parts that can be used on other builds. Scott

Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)
unclescott58 replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Back in the late 70's serveral people in this country (the USA) use to get European style headlamps, mainly for Mercedes. At the time I though they looked cool compared to the seal beam lamps we were forced to have on our cars. Now that most cars here have composite headlamps like the older European cars, I kind of miss the look of the old round seal beams. It's interesting to look back and see how stylists use to design front ends to acomadate the old US spec headlamps. Scott -
Interesting kit. Are those the turn signals on the cowl, rather than the front fenders? Did the carpet in the trunk come with the kit? Or is that something you added? And see that it's right hand drive, does the kit offer the option for left hand drive? Scott
