Question about to primer or not to primer
AC Norton replied to Raiven2k16's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
....as long winded and sometimes ridiculous as these forum discussions get at times,,,,I have to agree with Snake on this one. I've built a few in my day,,,maybe a few hundred,,,,maybe even more, but in all cases of painting, stripping, whatever....I have never seen any color of plastic run, and I mean ever. cars, military, even some odd builds thrown in made by makers world wide, I have yet to see the color seep thru and wash away, even after stripping colored parts with every chemical we all know and love, the colors have never seeped, run, or just got scared and took off.....some primers and paints simply don't cover some combos of colored plastic well, regardless of the skill of the painter/ builder.....its part of the ongoing mystique of everything plastic that goes together to create a greater model car...lol.......just my 2 cents....the Ace......... -

.........just thought I'd pass along that after checking ebay a moment ago, the new 2016 release of the MPC 1969 Barracuda is offered by a west coast seller as of tonite.....if anyone has grabbed one this last week if it was out in your area, I would love to hear about the kit.......I'm sure lots of the forum members would too...........thanks,,,the Ace.......
-
no, Kevin, you are not out classed...you build as many of us do to suit yourself. this forum is not nor ever should be considered a world competition of builders, and everyone builds to their own tastes and abilities......and that's how it should be in a hobby....best, the Ace...

Porsche 934 Vaillant; Gunze vs Testors?
AC Norton replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Brian, I built the Gunze issue in the mid90s era and it was a very easy, pleasing build with no problems, and clean, crisp quality. I suspect the Testors is the same, but have never had one...oh, just thought I may mention, I sprayed mine with Tamiya racing white, no clearcoat....and it looked great....hope this helps a bit.......have fun with that one, its a favorite of mine.......best,...the Ace.... -
thanks, Kevin.....I only mentioned this because at times I feel that so many builders are truly worried that their build may not impress the masses in this new age of instant social media and such. remember when building a kit back when all of us were young, and the thrill of just having it, showing to all your friends when the paint was probably still wet...lol......and how exciting it was....I do, and built my drag and muscle cars to suit me, and still do now......the Ace.....

.....well, my day so far hasn't been the best......until now....seeing this build of Judys has knocked me out, I just love it, John, you have one terrific piece there, for sure. I can't stop smiling, ......great work all the way....best, the Ace..........

...nice build on your 'bird.....I knew someone here in my city who had a real 68 runner in that green, and always liked it at the time when I too had my beige 68 runner back in around 1975.......always loved those cars, especially the 68's ......I'm working on the same kit presently and am making it a drag car of the late 60s-early 70s era, and found that those tail lights are a problem as we all know, but after grinding the back of them down a bunch, then taking plastic strip and building a surround molding for the edge,,,then foiling the surround, then paint detailing them,,,,you can get by with a decent end result. once finished, I will post mine.....yours looks great and i'll enjoy seeing it here to inspire my build............best,..the Ace...........

AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
...well, its nice of you to regard that ol' Falcon of mine as some inspiration, but you carried the ball all the way down on this build of yours, and all the frustrations and mishaps became what they do for all of us hopefully.....just forgotten later, once enjoying and sharing your build with all on the forum. I've got a few ideas for one of these 'stang awb kits when the time comes,,,,,,but until I awaken from my building slumber...i'll just dig looking at yours...lol...lol....best, the Ace.... -
well, your choices and combo in general are quite nice here, and always remember the most important aspect of our hobby...you only have to please yourself in how you build and choices of your colors, etc.....and this one is a beaut.....the Ace....

How many people fully detail a model?
AC Norton replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
.........take each and every build to your max,,,, or, maybe not.....that's why its called a hobby,,,, and everybody has their own personal level of how far to take a project to what level suits them within their comfort zone. I would venture to say that I'd bet many, many cars are brushed aside unfinished as sometimes a project can become just too much, especially if a builder gets way over his head in something that may just be biting off more than they can chew.......I've have always thought that everyone should build to the best of their ability, and keep within that zone of where it stays fun, enjoyable, and rewarding to them.....just my 2 cents........the Ace..... -
.....glad we're back on topic for a change....like so many forum discussions, they go so far astray of related subject, its annoying as hell. anyhow, the AMT63 Vette....its one of those kits that everybody knocks for this or that, but most of us forgive all that and have a couple in stock always. its a neat piece, even if you never build it, but have to have it.....hope that was on topic.......the Ace...............

ROUND2/AMT 1969 GTX QUESTION......
AC Norton replied to AC Norton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yeah, I know what goes with what, I have owned real 'runners back in the day, 3 of them over the years....but does the blue newest issue have the correct hood......the ACE -
....wondering if I may ask...the most recent 69 GTX issue, blue stock build on box,,,,,i seem to have read or heard that it comes with an incorrect 68 hood from the 68 road runner,,,and not the correct 69 air grabber hood as in previous issues way back....anyone fill me in on this, so I can buy an issue with the correct hood...thanks boys, in advance....the Ace...........

AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
do all your cleaning up totally before re spraying.....after that, tape the side up on the high edge if the body side, masking and blocking out the front and rear of the body. I would dust a light coat of your Tamiya white primer on the side first...very light haze coat. let that sit 2-3 hours, then dust a coat of the red over, slow and steady is the way for this fix. light coats until you see the result you like....leave that about 2-3 hours, and slowly lift your tape in a slow, upward pull, away from the body. once removed, now let it sit another 2 hours or so, and very gently work the edges to remove any tape line that may occur . a little wax or polish thinned out with water, and applied by your finger working the edge a bit, should eliminate an edge, but take it slow, and easy. this works, I have had to do this back in the day...a pain, yes...worth it ...ALWAYS....best, the Ace.... -
AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
.....this is a difficult fix,,,,,but the best, but most pain in the...., is to tape the high edges of the car, mask everything off, and after removing all the polish with some soapy water, spray the side again completely. its a tough go, but Tamiya spray is very forgiving, and if done with skill it will get you out of this jam and with a nice result....probably not what you want to hear, but maybe worth the aggravation...the Ace... -
Why do we like the makes we do ?
AC Norton replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
..........I've had GM, FORD, MOPAR, and AMC cars and many performance ones since 1972, thru to 2013,,,, and sold cars for a living from 77 to 90 including several brands,,,soooo to answer the question,,,,i like 'em all, had fun owning and drag racing them all way back too.... just can't really pick a favorite...good and bad traits in all of them........the Ace..........
