One tip another modeler suggested years ago was to use testors us army helo drab for tires, has this brownish green hue that really looks like older sun baked rubber .

Your springs should hold the curve . Mine on oshkosh were all stacked up , I ended up just bending them around spray can and surprisingly they stayed !
