  1. The 68 Imperial I'm working on is molded in turquoise. The exterior of the body is glossy and almost metallic but the "vinyl" roof is not. Was the outside of the body clear coated or just buffed out? The turquoise is nice but there are a few blemishes. Also, I don't think the Imperial was available in turquoise in 1968. I'm going with Forest Green on the body and interior and Frost Green for the roof. If it's cleared, I'll soak it in the purple stuff or oven cleaner and hope I don't damage the plastic. If it's buffed, maybe a quick pass with 1500 sand paper and then prime and paint. Thanks
  2. I have a Johan 1968 Imperial friction promo I'm planning on restoring. The front axle has the friction mechanism, a gear attached to the axle and a metal disc with another gear, but there doesn't seem to be any friction. The wheels and disc just spin. The disc can even turn without turning the axle rod. Is this how they were made to work? My idea of a friction toy is when you pull it backwards it builds tension and moves forward when you let go. Is that not how the Johan promos work?
  3. I just read this story. Lots of words but very interesting. I too had never heard of Big Red before. Apparently there was a scale model of it too. It'd be cool to see someone scratch build this thing.
  4. I have the same airbrush set up but haven't used it to paint a body yet. You have given me inspiration. PM me and let me know what parts you need. I have a few bits and pieces from the Revell 99 Silverado and AMT Tahoe.
  5. Looks so real makes my to Florida toes feel frost bitten.
  6. Awesome awesome awesome. I don't think the wheels compliment the rest of the build, maybe something staggered, deep dish in the rear, but still awesome awesome awesome.
  7. That is so cool
  8. Check 3dScaleParts. They might have something close. https://www.3dscaleparts.com/product-page/1-25-vw-wide-five-center-line-wheels-and-tires
  9. No fan of Edsels but what a great save!
  10. Thanks everyone! The shocks are molded in the chassis. The good thing about most promos is they have a good amount of detail. You just have to bring them to life. If you're thinking about, go for it. Thanks Jeff. You do some outstanding work on these old boats so I'm honored. Krylon Burgundy.
  11. Thanks Chris. The paint is krylon burgundy which is close to Cadillac cranberry. The flying goddess is from 3dScaleParts. He makes some really nice parts, wheels and tires.
  12. Thanks Walter. The shifter and column are scratch built.
  13. I've had some success with Bob Smith Industries' Un-Cure
  14. Les Dunham's Corvorado from James Bond Live and Let Die.
  15. I'm sure it's not completely accurate but close enough. Just going by what we've posted as builds for 2020, here's what I found: 71 builders 642 builds (avg. 9 builds per builder) 26 completed between 1-5 models (slackers like me) 23 completed 6-10 11 did 11-15 6 finished 16-20 4 knocked out 21-30 And only 1 overachiever completed more than 30. Nice work everyone! Imagine, this is just a small sample of all the completed models around the world in 2020. The manufacturers should take note. Let's keep building! Happy New Year everyone
  16. Phenomenal! I say it looks way better than the Devilish.
  17. Thanks guys. It's a CB77 Superhawk. Thanks Bob. Thanks David. I had fun building it except for the flash on every part and the frame was little challenging to get right. I say go for it.
  18. Thanks for keeping the oldies alive. The monterey green suits it well.
