  1. Thanks Dave!! I'll give that a shot with the oil filter. Couldn't remember what side of the engine the filter was on but that's what I get for not checking out references. lol Thanks Keith. I'll be going with the fastback version on this. I had a coupe in real life but always wanted a fastback so I'll be doing a 1:1 "what if" with same size wheels & tires all the way around.
  2. Some good detailing on that engine.
  3. I started out on the engine in which I like how the basic engine layout is done. A one piece engine block with a separate oil pan which is a good thing because there is less of a seam line going down the middle of the bellhousing, oil pan and down the front of the engine between the intake manifold and timing cover. In the foreground you'll see the two parts that I just CANNOT use. This aint no P-51 Mustang so out goes the four bladed prop and I'm still trying to figure out just what in the hell they were thinking in regards to the carburetor. Man..........c'mon Round 2. The distributor is also a little weird looking so I may switch that out as well. The one other issue that I have with the engine is that it doesn't have an oil filter. To me this was a big deal but may not be to some folks. But................there's nowhere to put it either because the engine mount bosses cover the exact area where the filter is supposed to go. Looks like that part will be skipped on this build. All of the engine parts needed cleaning up but the exhaust manifolds were the areas that needed the most. When cleaning these up with the X-acto blade you've gotta be careful because this plastic is REALLY soft. You can take off more than you want quicker than you're ready for if you're not careful. Just a heads up to anyone out there that wants to build this kit. Additionally, on the back side of the exhaust manifolds are what looks like casting protrusions towards the front of each manifold and they may very well be BUT......in test fitting the manifolds to the cylinder head with the head fitted onto the engine block these protrusions also serve as a standoff which steadies positions them about where they are supposed to be in relation to the manifold exhaust outlets. So...................I left em in place.
  4. Thanks for following along good buddy Carl. I'm not sure. I built the AMT GT500 one time and it's pretty much the same kit with a big block in it but can't remember how tough that one was to fit in there. Thanks Lee!! Glad to have you on board. I built one of these back in 03 and the wheel tire offering in the kit wasn't all that. Tires were a wonky size and the car just sat weird. The tires that are in this kit are of different (and appealing at that) size with stamped white lettering on them so that's already a plus. Thanks Joe! Glad to have you along as well.
  5. Thanks Rusty. Glad to have had you along for the ride. Lots of good conversation. Thanks Jim. I appreciate the good word and you're gonna love that story. White 3 will be showing up towards the last part of the book. Really thankful for your supportive comments Tony. I'd recommend this kit to anyone that wanted to build a 262. The book......well.....you'll love it. Thank ya Larry!!! 'Preciate you stoppin' in man.
  6. Truly remarkable aircraft and this one's a beautiful example. Thanks for sharing that.
  7. Saw the build up but missed the finish. Truly awesome work Dave and I enjoyed following along.
  8. Good LORD that looks good!! I've got this kit in the stash and seeing this build makes me want to bust out with it now. Spectacular work on this car.
  9. Yes it is true that I've got another Maverick build in the works but I just couldn't help myself when I saw AMT/ Round 2 come out with their newest re-pop of an old fave of mine. After this whole 262 build I've just about made my mind up that the next kit I'll be taking on will be the latest release of AMT's '67 Mustang by Round 2. The kit has alot going for it in the fact that there's updated decals, cleaner molds and pad printed tires. and I managed to get a small PE fret for it as well.. I've been wanting to build one of these anyhow since I owned 3 different '67's . My last one was my favorite as it had a 351W with a 4spd and 3.55 gears and it just so happened to be the same Acapulco Blue that the fastback on the box top is. Fun car and I had a LOT of fun driving it through the years. This is the only picture I can find of the engine as of right now and this is in car #2. A 351W from a '69 Mach 1 with 4 barrel heads, Comp Cams 280H cam, MSD Unilite Ignition and a Holley 650 Double Pumper. It also had 11:1 compression. Note to everybody out there that knows anything about cars. NEVER do that on the street. You're guaranteed to be plagued with detonation problems unless you run HIGH octane fuel all the time. (98 or better). This engine did make this car haul like a scaled assed ape though.
  10. I like where you're headed with this one. Stance and the overall look is nice n' aggressive.
  11. When I saw this topic I was wondering where you were gonna go with it and you're doing a swell job of it. Glad to see another GL in the works. When I built mine I lowered it a bit (which isn't "correct") but enjoyed every minute of it much like you're doing here. Lookin' good so far Jason.
  12. Thank you Don and thanks for following. I've got a Mustang build I'll be doing and I've given strong thought to building a Mistel. I'll have to build a display case just for that one though. lol 'Preciate that Gerald!!
  13. Folks...this one is now finished. I took today off to wrap it all up. Thank you to all who peeked in on and for all of the supportive and encouraging comments along the way.
  14. I've been wanting to build this aircraft for a very long time and have had two in my stash. I really wished I wouldn't have gotten rid of my Dragon Me-262A-1a Nachtjager version but this Tamiya A-1 kit was a good kit to build. I had set out to build Franz Stigler's plane from JV-44 late in the war. I read Adam Makos' book , A Higher Call several years ago and he was one of the main people that the story centered around. Long story short....he was going to shoot down a severely shot up B-17 and decided to lead them out of Germany instead. Afterwards he was assigned to JV-44 (pretty much Germany's last remaining fully operational air defense unit which was made up of the very best remaining fighter pilots) where he flew this aircraft. If you haven't read this book I won't give anything away but I'll just say that is a very powerful read. The kit is one that has been around for a while from Tamiya: There are a couple of schemes that could've been his bird but this is the one here that I went with as it just looks so dang cool.... I used Vallejo acrylics to replicate the paint and went with Eagle Cals for 95% of the markings and Peddinghaus for the #3 numerals on the side. Note.....never use the Peddinhaus offerings. Other than the #3 the stencils and other markings were just way out of scale. I had some trouble with the windscreen ended up removing it, sanding the fuselage and windscreen joints to get a better fit but that was about the only problem I had out of this awesome kit. Anyhow....after 6+ months...here is the completed build:
  15. Good looking track man. Like the subtle weathering.
  16. Man I've gotta hand to ya.....that is indeed some creative work. Well done bud.
  17. Wow!!! You really nailed the look. Impressive!!!
  18. Dang it man!!! That......................looks bad a$$!!!! Very cool work Dan.
  19. Thanks Rusty. We're going over to provide a meal for his family tonight and to check in on them. And yessir....you're right. It reminds us of what's REALLY important in this life.
  20. That's a good lookin' Sherman Gerald!! I've always liked the looks of this track and have learned alot about them in the last few years. The book Spearhead by Adam Makos shed alot of good as well as alot of bad light on them. Great book if you ever get the chance to read it.....but then again....anything from Adam Makos is a good read.
