  1. Here you go. Aside from the lack of engine compartment detail (no shock tower brace) or much else it's not a bad kit for that era. With a little extra stuff (which I may go back and do) it makes a nice looking convertible. I tried to come close to Indian Fire red and for the 70 it will be some shade of green (grabber or metallic maybe). You're probably right about not seeing many built - too many are still sitting in a box or have a $100 price tag on them. Somebody on Ebay was selling just the top for $20 - nuts.
  2. Anyone else have the pair and have you built them?
  3. Very nice. I wonder how long the wire wheels would have lasted on the real thing with all that power.?
  4. Two thumbs up from a Mustang guy. ?
  5. I hear you. I think most of us try to to paint them and getting a straight line is almost impossible with a brush. Remember this picture is blown up so we're talking about a pretty small piece. I still may explore cutting out the area before painting a body and perhaps adding the material from the other side to get the proper depth. Here's the same area on another model that is painted. What I will probably do is go back and trim the material some so it is a little narrower. Here's a picture of the real car too and what I am trying to replicate a little easier.
  6. Got sidetracked with the Japanese cop car so it's back to finishing some of these.
  7. Here are some close ups of the DM Boss 351. She's a beauty. Like a typical diecast, some details (that cannot be seen) are omitted (Carb and some of the transmission) but man what a killer casting. So, if anyone wants to discuss making a 3D mold ping me. The engine would have to be carefully taken apart and preferable downsized to 1/25 scale since the AMT and MPC kits are that scale. The Japanese kits are 1/24 but do not have opening hoods. As for all those other parts surrounding the engine, contact Kevin @ Missing Link - he's made casting of many of them.
  8. These folks should have them.
  9. Very nice job. I think I got the black decals in the left corner on Ebay.
  10. Hmm - are you sure. Every MPC and MPC Ford had either a 289/302/351 Windsor or a 427, 428CJ or 429 Boss. Sadly no 429 CJ's or 351 Clevelands. The Cougar Eliminator did have a nice little Boss 302 however. Do not believe what you read on the side of the box created by a markerting person that would not know the difference between a 429 Boss and a 426 Hemi. Here's some comments from that other site from 2007.
  11. How did I miss this thread? See the more current one as there is at least one new source and the SMBC engine is not longer available.
  12. I laughed out loud.. Thanks Snake 45. So here are some options: #1. Motor City Resin casters #2. Mustang II kits from 75-78 #3. Scale Modeling by Chris (no longer available) #3. Be really nice to me ? So I've attached some photo's to get an idea of what is/was out there. The picture with all those Ford engines includes some 351W, 351C and 429 CJ and some Boss 302s. In the close ups you will see what stands out as immediately being recognized as a Cleveland. The first is the upper radiator hose inlet/thermostat housing that is flat or straight down if you're a 3D person. The second of course is the valve covers which look similar to the Boss 302 but were of course not chromed or the fancy finned ones like on Boss 302 and 351's - just plain old Ford blue and the water pump. Transmissions were either an FMX, C6 or 4 Speed. If you noticed the Danbury Mint Boss 351 you're on the ball. Anyone that would take it apart (scale it down) and make 3D copies (think Pantera too) would be my hero. I'd throw in the Ram-Air air cleaner to complete the package. Hit me up with any questions like WTH is that pink engine or where did you get those valve covers and stuff like that. If you're wondering I did not mention the Revell Mach1 1/24 engine as the poster specified 1/25 but it's worth mentioning that it would have been nice to have some STOCK valve covers in that kit.
  13. Sorry to hear about the problems. I've got one in primer and am not crazy about the stock color choices either. You're right on the hood decals - why bother. One thing I have found is when it come to the doors and decals - I cut the decal in sections after measuring very cafefully. That way I have smaller sections to deal with. Of course that assumes you can reposition any if they do not line up. I wonder how Keith's decals compare to the kit or even the old Fred Cady ones. Lastly, good job despite the problems you had - the engine is very sharp.
  14. I would definitely be a buyer for any Mustang sheets, especially 71-73 sets in black and silver. There's one area that seems to be carried over from the Cady days - the bottom of the Mach's were painted with black or pewter (silver) and on the non -chrome trim cars the was a pinstripe just above the paint line. I doubt any decal would lay down on the lower curved part of the body so making a decal for that area seems unnecessary. The body pictured has the molded in chrome trim and was painted black. Also, the layout of the ram-air hood paint has more of a curvature than what Marks sells. I think you got the rear trunk decals spot on - they are pretty narrow and the Cady/Marks ones are too wide. Keep up the great work I am cannot wait to buy some.
  15. The Mark IV which was derived from the JCar molds.
  16. It's no worse than the later Mark IV's and maybe a little better actually one you get past the whole silly clear thing. The next question is has anyone else built them both?
  17. Would I punish myself to build another one. It's a question I am fortunate enough to contemplate.
  18. If I had to start somewhere I guess this is better than nothing. The scratch building still blows me away.
  19. Actually that picture is incorrect. None of the 71-73 Mustangs had a chrome trim around the reflector. They were all body color. Of course 68-70 Mustangs had the chrome trim but for my build it's correct. The AMT and MPC kits do not have the trim outline so to make it 100% correct I'd had to scribe the rectangle and either cut out or somehow sand the reflector area down since it is recessed. So, a lot of work for a small detail but since to me it was a choice between painting and the decal - I choose the less messy option. Not that it matters for this discussion but the rear spoiler on the blue sportsroof (not a fastback per Ford) is not a correct factory style). Can't anyone get stuff right anymore? ?
  20. Forget what you paid or what you think they are worth. Start at about 75% of what you think the item will sell. Don't quote outrageous shipping costs. Describe the item truthfully. Time the auction to end on a weekend and sit back and watch the fun. If no one bids lower it by 20% the next time. Do not sell to people with very low or bad feedback and cross your fingers. Ebay will take the buyers side in any dispute. I had some refuse to pay for an expensive item (Lego set) because just the box was a little bent (pictures never sent either). In the end the cheapskate paid me less that half of the bid. Ebay or Paypal would do noting and the buyer refused to return the item if he was so unsatified. I've bought and sold models and have not had any problems in 20 years.
  21. I'm so confused but I love it.
  22. Not sure what to do with this one. It looks salvageable but will need a lot of work. I bought it mainly for the box and the custom parts since you do not see this kit for less than $100 or more if unbuilt. I paid about $20 for it. Nice save on your two too.
  23. I found these stick-on reflective "decals" made for bicycles on Ebay . They were very inexpensive and came wth six sheets. I was only interested in the red and orange ones so I put some on my bike. Here's the first model I've cut out the material and used white glue to attach it. Most of the sheet has an adhesive backing and is thick so I used the thinner part on the edge that is thinner. Anyway, they are reflective like the real thing so I may neve paint these again - just cut out and glue or stick on. The Mustang is still in progress.
  24. Nice job. The look like the wheels from the AMT or MPC 71-73 Mustang which were used on other Fords. Maybe someone has some spare parts from this kit they can sen you.
