One of the best MOPAR designs. I was never a fan of the larger cars that looked something you father would drive.

Nice Save. Do you have decals for the hood scoop? Maybe 400 or 455? I'm a Ford guy.

Enzo would be proud. Magnifico.

Now we're talking.

Welcome and feel free to post up some of your work. We have all skill levels here and anyone can learn something. I know I do at least once a week and I only look at maybe 10% of the posts.

Compared to old MPC/AMT kits the engine compartment looks pretty good. I noticed the wheels where they snap onto the rear axle and front suspension detract from realism of the rest of the chassis that looks nice. The fact that it came with nice stock wheels and correct exhaust system and side mirrors I'd say the kit isn't perfect but coming from a Mustang guy this looks pretty sharp to me. Nice job on those side reflectors too. ?

You're right. Not all the Magnum 500's had the centers painted black.

he short answer is a long time. Even at on every two months it will be five years at least if I just concentrate on these and not the other 150 kits I have.

Side marker reflectors - why paint them?
vamach1 replied to vamach1's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
The first four people (sorry US) only to rely and then PM I will send a sample of both colors for free. I have no financial interest in this product - just want to give some away as I have more than I could use on 100 models. So just reply and PM your full name and address and your "prize" will be in the mail. If you end up using it or come up with other uses just post here. -
Not sure about that one but Roush did 351 Windsors for oval and road course race cars in the 80's.. I'm not positive about if all or some had Cleveland heads bur suffice it to say they were race engines and would only resemble a factory engine. I think the Motor City one is your best bet for a stock engine.

Side marker reflectors - why paint them?

Thanks. As mentioned above - on this year Mustang they are recessed so I'm thinking (before painting the body) cut out the rectangle, put some plastic behind it painted red or yellow orange, tape over and paint the body, peel off tape and then apply the "decal." A lot of work but it would yield the most realistic results. For comparison here is how Danbury Mint did the Boss 351. The only error is there should not be any black wash in the recesses. -
Side marker reflectors - why paint them?

I tried gluing the material over the painted area and I am happy with the result. I finally got a picture that shows the tiny pattern. You can see a tiny bit of yellow underneath but to the naked eye it is hardly noticeable. -
Add this one to the list of almost never seeing built. Palmer plastics 70 Boss made to look like it needs a complete restoration.

Here you go. Aside from the lack of engine compartment detail (no shock tower brace) or much else it's not a bad kit for that era. With a little extra stuff (which I may go back and do) it makes a nice looking convertible. I tried to come close to Indian Fire red and for the 70 it will be some shade of green (grabber or metallic maybe). You're probably right about not seeing many built - too many are still sitting in a box or have a $100 price tag on them. Somebody on Ebay was selling just the top for $20 - nuts.

Very nice. I wonder how long the wire wheels would have lasted on the real thing with all that power.?

Two thumbs up from a Mustang guy. ?

Side marker reflectors - why paint them?

I hear you. I think most of us try to to paint them and getting a straight line is almost impossible with a brush. Remember this picture is blown up so we're talking about a pretty small piece. I still may explore cutting out the area before painting a body and perhaps adding the material from the other side to get the proper depth. Here's the same area on another model that is painted. What I will probably do is go back and trim the material some so it is a little narrower. Here's a picture of the real car too and what I am trying to replicate a little easier. -

Here are some close ups of the DM Boss 351. She's a beauty. Like a typical diecast, some details (that cannot be seen) are omitted (Carb and some of the transmission) but man what a killer casting. So, if anyone wants to discuss making a 3D mold ping me. The engine would have to be carefully taken apart and preferable downsized to 1/25 scale since the AMT and MPC kits are that scale. The Japanese kits are 1/24 but do not have opening hoods. As for all those other parts surrounding the engine, contact Kevin @ Missing Link - he's made casting of many of them.
