  1. Sorry to hear about the problems. I've got one in primer and am not crazy about the stock color choices either. You're right on the hood decals - why bother. One thing I have found is when it come to the doors and decals - I cut the decal in sections after measuring very cafefully. That way I have smaller sections to deal with. Of course that assumes you can reposition any if they do not line up. I wonder how Keith's decals compare to the kit or even the old Fred Cady ones. Lastly, good job despite the problems you had - the engine is very sharp.
  2. I would definitely be a buyer for any Mustang sheets, especially 71-73 sets in black and silver. There's one area that seems to be carried over from the Cady days - the bottom of the Mach's were painted with black or pewter (silver) and on the non -chrome trim cars the was a pinstripe just above the paint line. I doubt any decal would lay down on the lower curved part of the body so making a decal for that area seems unnecessary. The body pictured has the molded in chrome trim and was painted black. Also, the layout of the ram-air hood paint has more of a curvature than what Marks sells. I think you got the rear trunk decals spot on - they are pretty narrow and the Cady/Marks ones are too wide. Keep up the great work I am cannot wait to buy some.
  3. The Mark IV which was derived from the JCar molds.
  4. It's no worse than the later Mark IV's and maybe a little better actually one you get past the whole silly clear thing. The next question is has anyone else built them both?
  5. Would I punish myself to build another one. It's a question I am fortunate enough to contemplate.
  6. If I had to start somewhere I guess this is better than nothing. The scratch building still blows me away.
  7. Actually that picture is incorrect. None of the 71-73 Mustangs had a chrome trim around the reflector. They were all body color. Of course 68-70 Mustangs had the chrome trim but for my build it's correct. The AMT and MPC kits do not have the trim outline so to make it 100% correct I'd had to scribe the rectangle and either cut out or somehow sand the reflector area down since it is recessed. So, a lot of work for a small detail but since to me it was a choice between painting and the decal - I choose the less messy option. Not that it matters for this discussion but the rear spoiler on the blue sportsroof (not a fastback per Ford) is not a correct factory style). Can't anyone get stuff right anymore? ?
  8. Forget what you paid or what you think they are worth. Start at about 75% of what you think the item will sell. Don't quote outrageous shipping costs. Describe the item truthfully. Time the auction to end on a weekend and sit back and watch the fun. If no one bids lower it by 20% the next time. Do not sell to people with very low or bad feedback and cross your fingers. Ebay will take the buyers side in any dispute. I had some refuse to pay for an expensive item (Lego set) because just the box was a little bent (pictures never sent either). In the end the cheapskate paid me less that half of the bid. Ebay or Paypal would do noting and the buyer refused to return the item if he was so unsatified. I've bought and sold models and have not had any problems in 20 years.
  9. I'm so confused but I love it.
  10. Not sure what to do with this one. It looks salvageable but will need a lot of work. I bought it mainly for the box and the custom parts since you do not see this kit for less than $100 or more if unbuilt. I paid about $20 for it. Nice save on your two too.
  11. I found these stick-on reflective "decals" made for bicycles on Ebay . They were very inexpensive and came wth six sheets. I was only interested in the red and orange ones so I put some on my bike. Here's the first model I've cut out the material and used white glue to attach it. Most of the sheet has an adhesive backing and is thick so I used the thinner part on the edge that is thinner. Anyway, they are reflective like the real thing so I may neve paint these again - just cut out and glue or stick on. The Mustang is still in progress.
  12. Nice job. The look like the wheels from the AMT or MPC 71-73 Mustang which were used on other Fords. Maybe someone has some spare parts from this kit they can sen you.
  13. Calling this one done. It was a fun build.
  14. Nope. We are not worthy. A++++++++++++++ One question - is the Shelby manufacturer VIN plate a Keith Marks decal or did you make them?
  15. Pictures can be deceiving.
  16. Yes back in the day the model companies recognized not every kit had to be an exact replica. Less licensing fees to pay and they could sell multiple versions but just changing box art and maybe the decals. Build what makes you happy.
  17. Check them out. No excuse now.
  18. I always like the choice of colors you use - you're not limited to factory stock colors (only four for that year Boss). So in that vein I have mentioned on some other Mustangs I see how it is pretty common to see the rear spoiler mounted the opposite of how Mr. Shinoda had intended. The flat side was in the front and the tapered side at the back. In other words, just flip it around (if you care about such details) or just go with how I've seen them mounted sometimes on real cars because an owner assumed that is how it came from the factory.
  19. Looking good and will be watching.
  20. Very nice detailing. I feel your pain on the decals. These kits should have come with two sets. When I build a white car with lots of graphics I usually cut out each large number or letter and apply them after trimming each one as close as possible. Here's some I built in the 1990's.
  21. The more I build the more I am leaning towards primer projects and restoration specials. NIce work for a first time. As long as it does not look shiny you are good to go. A rust bucket modern muscle car would look out of place but this project is perfect. Those wheels might look a little too clean - oops - I sprayed some "dirt" from far away for just the right amount.
  22. I have quite a few diecast Gulf cars also but here are three I built two of which were resin kits.
  23. Nice to see a 1/43 kit once in a while. Not sure when I built these - probably 10-25 years ago. There were many version but the best ones had the chrome parts. For some reason these are not cheap on Ebay compared to the 289 Cobra kit which is a lot better kit.
  24. thanks. Just added air cleaner decal and metal Mustang scripts.
