He was a pilot (8th Air Force) and flew 30 missions in several different B17’s. He received a lot of medals and I was able to track down his flight records at the National Archives from just a few photos of his flight crew and a Facebook page led me to a website that had tons of information. I put together a lot of information which I have in a photo album that is in storage.

So four convertibles it is. Easy to make a model with the Revell/Monogram convertible with parts from a GT350 kit. -

Be interesting to see the SAAC registry and what it lists. I have that book also in storage. -
Very nice and mean looking. The fenders give me an idea. I may cut up a Cobra body and use them on a T/A Mustang I want to build that has very wide fenders.

I saw several posts of Facebook that the NNL Philly and NNL East shows have been canceled yet again.

SAAC and Shelby confirmed there were only four. Six was the rumored number for decades until all four cars were found and verified. -

The steering wheel isn’t stock. The front valence is wrong. Shelby made four 66 convertibles and later Beverly Hills Mustang that made twelve more in the 1980s with Shelbys approval. Basically anyone can take a 65/66 convertible and add Shelby parts but if it does not have an original HIPO engine it’s just a car modified to suit the owners taste. it would probably for for $50K at an auction if it’s well done. -
Yes there were changes such as the Mach1 lettering used to be molded in on the early AMT kits (like the promo) and the racing versions removed the front and rear fender reflectors and any lettering or scripts.

71-73 Mustang Kit Accuracy
vamach1 replied to SuperDave's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would certainly hope an all new Revell kit would be so superior that most of the MPC and AMT kits end up in Big Lots or similar discount stores. When Revell tooled its 69 Mach1 I’m sure the undersized MPC kit sales took a nose dive. For the most part only collectors will pay a premium for older kits that has been long discontinued. It amazes me I see AMT 70 Mach1 kits routinely sell for well over $100 on auction sites when the Revell kit is available for far less. -
Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang
vamach1 replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Do you mean this one? Although I do not have engine pictures yet of the Tope 73 from back in the day, the car used many of the same parts as the 70 TA 302s so I’m guessing that is what they based it on. -
Looking good. For anyone looking for a less expensive alternative here’s what I did to the Lindberg “Mustang” kit. There is no way I could have built it “stock” with all the obvious weird deviations from a factory Mustang.

It’s an odd duck for sure. All the decals I have seen online are the same with the logo whereas this one looks to be text with a brake caliper.

71-73 Mustang Kit Accuracy
vamach1 replied to SuperDave's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Check out this website below plus all the previous threads on this topic. The MPC kit (now under AMT branding) is easier to obtain but the original AMT kits have a more realistic stock interior. I would first decide what you want to build starting with the year 71/72 or 73 as the 73 grille and bumper are different. Then decide do you want to build a drag car, TA race car, Grand National stock car or dirt track car, or perhaps a regular Sportsroof, Boss 351, Mach1, Shelby Europa or Sprint. This decision will determine what aftermarket parts you will need (grille/bumper and perhaps decals) or parts from other kits. The major problems with both kits are the lack of engine compartment and chassis detail, incorrect engines, incorrect dual exhaust (from 69/70), no ram-air plenum with correct air cleaner, no Magnum 500 wheels just to name a few. I noticed Rob updated his website recently but I’m not sure if he ever completed his builds. Here are some of mine. It should be noted I added the resin shock towers on two on my builds and the resin ram-air setup on the gold one. The 007 car is an original AMT kit. The sprint decals were from Keith Marks. robdebie.home.xs4all.nl -
I picked up a few of these when they came out.

Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang
vamach1 replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here’s what Gus (the current owner) sent me. Not sure the time frame but it’s probably mid to late 70’s. -
Very nice restomod. I do not think I have seen a real 71-73 Mustang that someone put in the Boss 429 engine but I’m sure it would fit with some minor alterations.
-
I think your assumptions are correct. It’s a niche kit and although it was release in four versions (Mach1, Autolite Special, Superstang and Iron Horse) it would not appeal to a mass market. I’m sure collectors/builders looking for their holy grail would love to see it in it’s original form reissued but it’s far less expensive for Round2 to reissue the same 68 Shelby kit over and over and I assume for some reason they can still re-box and sell that kit every five years or so despite there being i would guess tens of thousands out there already.
