Looks very realistic. Did you apply techniques from experience from weathering military models.
-
Yeah - you might have to take the kits down to the local auto body shop to get them sprayed. I have considered doing that and would totally not rule it out if they would agree to paint them. ? The local shop repaired the cracks in the front urethane bumper on my 72 Mach1 and it came out perfect.

Revell 1/25 289 Cobra--1st look, (I think)

Yes that is the best way to go. He usually responds within 24 hours. -
That WAS a great deal then. ?

What did you think of the Doyusha kit? I built one about 35 years ago but it wasn’t’ horrible that I remember but it was beat up over several moves so I sold it as a glue bomb and found a brand new kit for a good price that is still in the box. Like any old Japanese kit the engines are not very realistic but overall it is no worse than say the Revell 1/12 65 Mustang.

Has anyone seen the Revell test shots yet? Okay I have not either but in the mean time here is an MPC kit with a few parts that are not from the kit such as the door panels and front chrome bumper and wheels (thanks to Kevin Lutz). I need to add the very narrow tape stripes around the hood and lower body and as of now it does not have any engine or exhaust system and the kit does not provide the front turn signals under the bumper. I also cut out of the doors and trunk but I am not sure if I will hinge them. It takes a lot to make either the MPC or AMT kit resemble the real car. I will have to invest in some Argent paint as I cannot seem to find a model paint color that matches the color Ford used on the hood. I’ll probably build another Boss using an AMT kit just for fun until the Revell one comes out.

1/64 Scale I assume? I collect of lot f them but it’s pretty hard to keep up with new releases every month. I must have 30 white 65 GT350’s by now. ?

Reproducing existing kit decals

Welcome back and great finish. Many of us have some kits we started last century. ? I’m trying to finish a MPC Cobra II from a kit plus parts from Missing Link. I built the AMT kit as a 1974 V6 Mach1 but I think your build would be a little faster in the 1/4 mile. Keep up the great work. There are many resin parts that were not even available ten years ago.

Reproducing existing kit decals

Firebird designs makes decals from out of production car kits. -
Welcome David. I’ve been going (before COVID) to the Maryland Automotive Modelers Association meetings for thirty years and they are are bunch of great people and there are some really talented nationally known builders. Hopefully we can all meet in Greenbelt next year when community centers can reopen. To your paint question - spray cans have a pretty long shelf life but I have had bottles dry up quickly sometimes. I have not used acrylics but I wonder if they do not dry up like enamel paint can.

1964-66 Shelby Daytona Coupe
vamach1 replied to Venom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
So now you have to decide if you are going to add an engine and everything under the hood of just glue the body back into one piece since the kit was not made to have the hood displayed open (like the full detail HRM kit). Decisions decisions. ? -

Very nice to see the smaller scales and well done. -
1/16 distributor and carburetor?
vamach1 replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Very true. It seem like the older larger scale kits (MPC and AMT) are just larger molds of the same parts which makes the lack of detail and realism even more pronounced. They probably figured an air cleaner would cover the carb anyway. -
1964-66 Shelby Daytona Coupe

This is a nice list of models of the Daytona Coupe from the book by Rinsey Mills about CSX3200 that was published this year and is available at your typical online places. The book is 336 pages and a must have for Daytona Coupe fans. -
I like you taste in countertops. Do you have this book yet? I have pretty much run out of room fo anymore 1/18 models and the cost seems to go up on them to the point that many are over $100.. ?
-
He’s right - have not seen a 1/18 with a roof much less any other scale except maybe 1/43 that was a specific car raced at Lemans etc.
-
You’re probably right about having a more accurate and detailed kit with all the extra detail parts and photoetch with the KA kit and new tires, etc. I’ve seen these 1/8 “models” which do not have any more detail but to the person that may only want to build the kit “out of the box” I am guessing the MENG kit will appeal to those customers, especially of they do a preprinted version. On the other hand the diecast 1/12 MKII’s are about $500 but what’s the fun in that?
-
Agree. It is very realistic looking. Don’t get an ideas Ray although maybe a Tweety Bird Cobra might be your next build? ?

Revell 1/25 289 Cobra--1st look, (I think)

The decal sheet was in Yen and I ordered some other resin parts from the website. I guess the sheet alone was around $25 but I used paypal so I’m not sure of the exact breakdown with shipping. In another thread I mentioned I bought the AMT decal sheet directly from Round2 for $10 this summer using their parts replacements service. Www.mizorogiscm.shop-pro.JP is the site for the Rocketeer decal sheet. -

2020 ACME Southern Nationals Results

Maybe I should have entered something. ? Anyway, although I didn’t thanks to the folks that did take the time to “oversee” the event and the sponsors, etc. I hope I can make the show in person next year along with at least three other NNL shows. -
I also picked up one of these white 66 GT350H’s at Hobby Lobby yesterday and for under $20 you cannot beat the price.
