DeAgostini 1/8 1967 Shelby GT 500....Update! 2/5/19
vamach1 replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great progress and no pressure but I hope to see it on the table at a show next year. ?Actually it would be nice to see any model in person at a show and all the people that have been socially distancing for most of this year. ? -
Here are some older builds of mind showing the extreme difference in size from the MPC 69 GT kit and the original issue Monogram 70 BOss 429. I made a Mach1 and a Boss 429 from the MPC kit and the Monogram Boss 429 I straight out of the box. Making a Boss 429 out of the Revell Mach1 kit should be fairly easy.

Gunze Sanyo Cobra Daytona Question
vamach1 replied to Ralph Henderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Gunners kit is based upon CSX2299. Gramps posted this picture on another post about the Daytona Coupes. For a car that only six were made it did have a great track record and had the GT40 not come along it would have probably won even more races but Ford wanted a car to do over 200mph at Lemans and that was the end of the Cobra in Ford’s eyes. I’m reply sure Brad used some of the Gunze kit as a basis for the HRM kit but given how the Gunze kit that came out in 1986 is pretty hard to find I’d say the HRM kit is they way to go if you want to build one with an engine and not have to piece together parts from other sources. -
Gunze Sanyo Cobra Daytona Question

It makes sense you can get the old Trumpeter kit for so cheap if this one is going to be four times as much.

What Snake said. Always nice to see the Ford vs. Chevy rivalry. My father never owned a Mustang but he did have a white 67 Camaro and I even had a 67 Buick Special and 69 Dart GTS before I bought my first Mach1. I guess I went astray from my roots. ?

That would be slightly better but either way they will probably sell some before we ever see the new Revell tool.

Not a lot of options these days given the cost of shipping and hobby stores closing even before COVID and with very few clubs meeting or having shows and swap meets. No one would argue there are many great and generous folks on this forum that help each other out with a part here and there. As a new member perhaps an introduction and some pictures would explain exactly what “messed up” means and perhaps others could provide some advice on whether the original body is a lost cause

1962 perhaps the poster meant to type. ?

Maybe I should look under the original blue sticker on my door. ? The one thing unique about my 1972 Mach1 was it ordered for export to France but it’s a 351 H code single exhaust with a FMX automatic. Over the last 39 years I have added headers, dual exhaust, Koni shocks, larger anti-sway bars, a 4 bbl intake and traction loc differential. I guess for paying $1650 for it in 1981 I guess it wasn’t too bad a choice. It was made in August 1971 so next year it will be 50 years old. Where did the time go? ? The picture is from the Washington Auto show this year. 2020 started out pretty good but how things changed in a hurry.

Those with sharp eyes may notice the left front fender stripe for the 1973 Mach1 that goes around the side marker light is not shown on the sheet in this picture. From Keith’s Fotki page he said it is included and the set is available in black or silver. He may have made other changes. I have a few sets from him but I bought them a long time ago but I have already cut the sheets up and both fender decals are there.

True. Like the 1970 engine it had the 302 Windsor block with Cleveland type heads. You can make one (a model) with some parts swapping and decals from Rayskits.com . Of course the original AMT Mach1 and MPC “Boss 351” are missing so many other parts that are on a real Boss that while the decals would help masquerade what is underneath and under the hood. While waiting for the “real” Boss 351 kit Revell kit I am actually slowly working on a dark green and silver (argent) just to remind myself the lengths one has to go through to make a somewhat realistic replica of the one year only model. The Ford guys will say there was a 72 Boss 351 and while the engine was an option that year most of the 398 R code engines probably ended up in the Mach1 package but a few were put into convertibles and coupes. Even the salespeople were probably confused with three different 351 Cleveland engines that year were available for any Mustang model - the CJ (Q), HO (R) and 2v (H). As for the fate of the one of one 1971 Boss 302, after Ford killed the idea they pulled the engine and put in the H code Cleveland in the car and sold it to a customer with a “revised” VIN. I wonder if they got a discount. ?

Any word on a release date from Round2 or did the new Revell Boss 351 kit or My reviews of the AMT and MPC kits make them rethink the whole idea? ?

66 Mustang gt350 hood in 1/25 scale
vamach1 replied to Michael in Illinois's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Does not exist as far as I know. You best best is to try and make the scoop and add it to the 1/25 scale hood. About 35 years ago I built a 65 GT350 from a coupe using a conversion roof and scratch built the hood scoop which is in the bottom of a parts box somewhere. Anyway, as you can see this one needs a complete restoration but it gives you an idea of how sometimes you just have to make do with some plastic and a hobby knife. ? -
It’s okay but due to many complaints Revell changed the part so it has more slant than the original kit part.
-
About 15 years ago I made a 69 Boss 429 using the MPC kit with is a little undersized scale wise. I used a 1/25 MPC Boss 429 engine (from the 71-73 MPC Mustang) and of course had to scratch build a smaller hood scoop so it would not look oversized.. The Revell kit makes more sense of course given it has a far more realistic engine bay and chassis. Out of curiosity are you using the kit grill or the one from the Boss 302?
-
I have toyed with the idea of using the Shelby Series one drivetrain but have not gotten any further just thinking it may work. I sure wish any model company would save us the trouble and make a kit with the engine and drivetrain.
-
Robert, Welcome to the world of old kit molds where for numerous reasons the model companies were not concerned with 100% accuracy and as long as these molds are around there does not seem to be any incentive for their successors to spend a lot correcting or improving them when they figure there are work arounds like you have identified. Keep us updated on your build - I like your creativity is trying other parts from other kits to make a more accurate 68 Shelby. I’ve attached some photos of some I built and a one diecast (red) to show the shape of the front of the hood Mr. Obsessive has pointed out in his Green Hornet build and the HRM convertible conversion (green) which used the 67 chassis. You are so right about the ten spoke wheels and those in the weird light green reissue kit are simply awful. I recommend getting Keith Marks decals and look forward to your build and post any questions you have before you dive into your build.
-
If they come out nice would you consider selling them? I have a few Keith Marks sets but as we know they are not inexpensive and include The 71/72 side stripes but not the Mach1 for the fenders or the trunk Mach1 decal for a 71/72 so I that set is not too useful unless you want or need some spares for other kits. I’m also not sure how well the Mustang script in his set would show up on the black stripe decal. I prefer to use a photo etch script for the script that I found on Ebay versus a decal anyway.

If they are still any good would be my question not to mention original kits sell for $50-$100 which is way too much. While I am at it I will mention the stripes should be black or silver. No 71-73 Mustang came with white stripes.

I was wondering the same but if you are expecting it to be any different than what’s been reissued many times since the first 1971 kit you will probably be disappointed.
