Grand Sport Corvettes
vamach1 replied to 65slotcar's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Randy C and Bill I would second that about Randy who has many HRM products as well as other great resin stuff from around the world. Perhaps Brad is focusing 90% of his “production” to customers more eager to point and click to place an order in a few seconds. Who can blame him? I think it’s a win-win for everyone and given my other answer it probably explains why there can be a delay or that it may take time to restock the inventory. -

The quick answer is no. I do not know many people at his age that have the time to maintain a website to have any hope of keeping up with making parts and kits. Not a knock on people over 75 but it’s a generation that is fine with doing things their way. Frustrating to us young folks (under 65?) but it’s not going to change. However, crank up the Google machine and there are many pictures of his products SOME of which are sold on a website I am sure many of us model builders that wish they had a warehouse know about. Norman of Replicas and Miniature of Maryland (No website either) sells some HRM goodies too. There are many times I though what the heck I should invest in an inventory and sell vie EBay but after the fees and such I probably would not make a 10% profit. Not all bad news but on Facebook (yeah I know) the Replicas and Miniatures Fan page has some photos as does some of the links in the Mamasboyz.org website. So, after checking all that out you will probably be saying I want to spend money and I cannot do it. I wish I had a better answer but at least you may at least understand a little more being in his shoes. Brad has said physically he cannot travel to NNL shows hours away and Norm still goes to some but he has said before he is very busy with his regular mail order customers that he cannot just “stock up” for a show and have his paid orders be delayed. Throw COVID into the equation (shows being cancelled) with more people looking online for stuff. You can try emailing Brad at historicracingminiatures@comcast.net. I hope you find something you like and can buy. I know many of us are looking for the 2020 reset button and let us know if you find it. ? -
I know who will buy one. ? Thanks for the tip. Shipping may take a while to the USA and it shows one left.

Look for this Red Line club release to skyrocket in price on the secondary market the day after they are all sold out to RLC members. ? I read a few complaints about the front end and tires (too large) but I would not expect Hotwheels to invest it making the casting more accurate - they tend to focus on the paint and they KNOW collectors will willingly pay $25 or more for.a $1 car with what appears to be a finish most of us can only dream about from an airbrush or spray can in this small scale.

A lot of great comments by all. I am sure what drives some modelers crazy if when people that know little to nothing about the hobby lump everyone in the same group - we are mostly adults playing with toys and they could not tell a mid-range die cast made in usually China (usually with nice shinny paint) compared to a well done and painted model that took the builder many hours to complete just out of the box. I have kits from twenty years ago that I have not built simply because not doing any modifications would seem too easy in a way. I think many of us enjoy taking kits with many things that are incorrect and fixing them that 99% of people would not know were there. The greatest compliment I appreciate (usually on Facebook) is either where did you get that kit or how did you build that. I reply with a list of parts, decal, paint and describe what I had to do to get from what was in the “original” box to something that resembles what the “real” vehicle looks like. What makes so many “at home” hobbies these days is being able to share our “work” and “art” with hundreds if not thousands of model builders that are at various skill levels the techniques and research that was done prior to taking on anything from a straight of the box kit to an entirely built scratch built replica to everything in between. The any many that just will never understand the fascination and online and in person friendships model builders (not just cars, trucks, cycles, of course) cherish and in many cases with people they may never get to meet in person. Happy building everyone.

If a hundred And twenty two of us chip in maybe we could bid on it and own it each for three days a year. ? I guess I will have to settle for the 1/24 and 1/43 ones. ?. At least I got to drive a MkI made by Safir for only a few minutes.

Good point. I do wonder when the Exoto and other 1/12 die cast models starting coming out of various GT40’s if that took away some potential business for the “kit” market given the relative lower cost (made in China) and that many enthusiasts would be happy buying a die cast or resin example with none of the “hassles” or enjoyment of spending many long hours building a kit with hundreds of parts. As for quality no doubt the CMA kit will be far far superior in all ways to the Trumpeter or Meng ones but priced accordingly. Of course they will probably be a limited number given the time and cost but it would be the crown jewel in any GT40 model collection for sure. I hope to finish all the 1/24 resin GT40 kits I have before I tackle the off the shelf ones (Fujumi, etc.) but like many modelers it’s so easy now to buy kits from around the world but carving out time to build them is a whole other story.

Sounds like you, Lee and I have been on the same path for a while stocking up on every Ford GT kit on the market.

Looking for dragonsnake decals
vamach1 replied to GoodbuildNY's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
No problem. He has been great for the model hobby for road racing enthusiasts looking for something unusual and much less costly than the MFH resin kits out of Japan. -
Great work once again Marcos. Maybe Ford is watching. If there is a kit of the 2021 Mach1 made I am sure you could improve upon the factory paint and graphics as well. ?

Just tell the store clerk they are for the grand daughters. ?

You can call Brad directly who I have known for 30 years. He’s a one man operation and his wife (who supports him 100%) and they come to EVERY MAMA meeting with him as does Norman (R&MofMD) and his wife. The last meeting was in February (thanks COVID) and Brad has spent the last two or maybe three plus decades making fantastic resin parts and kits. Not sure if Brad can keep up with emails for all us bored modelers out there wanting to build something. I know he has issues keeping up with orders for customers and for Randy’s website. His phone is 301-604-8591 (9am-5pm EST). I cannot think offhand Ever seeing the pink Cobra decals - maybe Whoopiekat will do them. -
Look like a fairly simple build and the body from what I can see looks pretty accurate although I am not a II expert. I built a red Mach1 for one of the challenges and it came out pretty good (AMT or MPC I don’t remember) but I did have to poach some Mach1 decals from another kit. I think I have some mirrors somewhere I painted but forgot to glue on and the real car has 13 inch tires so the rear tires I used on mine look too large. You may want to skip the British target decals I see in your picture - I do not recall that being a special edition made by Ford. ? There was a “western” special edition that I have seen in person that was interesting and a Stallion edition Ford made to sell more cars.

Hobby Lobby re-opening
vamach1 replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah - I have been buying the small bottles but as you might expect I go thru a lot of Ford blue. ? I will try the last hobby shop within 20 miles (about 10 miles from here) that sells primarily RC and train stuff but they do have car kits and a pretty decent selection of Tamiya spray paints and whatever Testors paints you can still find. I guess there’s always ordering online or I look in my pre-painted engine parts bin. -

Has anyone found the Testors enamel large bottles of the Ford/GM blue? All the HL near me has is the Acrylic paint in that color. -
Yes and thanks Gary. The cream colored resin, photo etch, wheels and tires, some vacuum formed windows, the decals and some cast metal parts come with the DDP kit. It reminds me of an enlarged 1/43 Tenariv kit (picture below) since there is no engine and the bottom of the “kit” chassis has zero detail. Nonetheless I am the first kid on my block to buy one ?. As I said before having “experimented” with the CMA and Thunder Valley transkits hopefully this project will at least show what is possible with some parts swapping instead of paying through the nose for a 55 year sold slot car body. ?
-
There are really not any viable alternatives besides some old slot cars. It’s too bad it was not designed to be easily compatible with the thousands of Fujumi GT40 kits but I can understand some people want a simplier build and everything in one box.
-
Any insight on a release date for the CMA one? I recall seeing those pictures last century (maybe late 1990's) so I am not holding my breath on that one anytime soon and the price will probaby be 50% higher as well. Changing gears to a much smaller scale - I did not realize they did a 1/43 Cobra kit at one time. I wonder if that was before or after the Monogram one.

$200 for a 1/12 Gulf GT40 - get them while they're hot.. This large scale version by CMR looks really tempting given that GT40 expert John Allen had positive things to say about this resin display model. I have no asociation with the seller - just found this while searching after seeing the comments on anohter site. I'd love to get one with an engine but you have to pay about three times more for the brands that include one in 1/12 scale. I doubt we will ever see a plastic kit of a MKI in 1/12 after the Trumpeter kit got ripped pretty good by reviewers.
-
So as if I did not have enough GT40's to build here's one I have wanted to round out the many version of the Lola inspired Ford powered race car that only saw a few converted to a roadster version. The kit is designed to be built as a curbside but what's the fun in that - right? The first thing I did was grab one of my Fujumi kits to see if the MKI chassis (not the MKII kit) would fit instead of the very generic chassis that comes with the resin kit. The good news is it looks like it will but I may have to use a combination of parts for the interior. The other unfortunate part is I'll have to cut up a Fujumi body for the donor lower sills that are part of the DDP chassis unlike a Fujumi kit. Not to worry as I have a pretty good supply of them. As this resin kit is designed like the Fujumi MKII (no engine and the back does not open) I have the same dilemma as I idid with the CMA transkit - do I add a HRM or other resin engine or not "waste" one because most of it will be hidden. So like the CMA Gulf GT40 it will probably be another parts bin engine but I laid out various parts from a Fujumi kit (some of which are the same as in the DDP kit) to get an idea of where to go with this project which at this point I am treating as an expensive transkit one off build.

Here's the direction I was going before I got sidetracked with other projects. The M2 diecast has what I assume would be the "correct" exhaust routing versus a "real" Shelby GT500. The green wheels are unique to the limited "chase " versions. Aside from the metallic blue ? I was not sure what else I would do differently but it's been a while so I and going to revisit where I was going with my build but I wanted to give those interested an idea of what comes with the resin kit (which i hope they make again) and how the chassis from the AMT kit will work but will require some mods unless one assumes the side pipes are just for show. Yours looks good so far Marko - maybe we can both get in gear and end up with two very unique tribute recreations.
-
Trying to replicate a car (more than one) made for a remake of a movie with the star car being loosely based on a real 67 GT500 but got Fooseified can be a challenge. I plan to use whatever engine looks and fits the best and since I already have some diecast Eleanor's I will probably not even paint it the dark metallic gray. If you build it a little different you might even get more "likes" as people try to find what you did to suit your own taste. ?
