  1. I have a couple of his resin kits and they are very nice. As others have said, he sold off the paint business and concentrates on resin kits. Order without worry, he produces some nice resin kits.
  2. Last year Marcus Smith approached Charlotte city leaders asking for the moon and stars (I wonder where he learned that tactic?) to build him a stadium for a Major League Soccer team and had yet to be awarded a franchise. The city asked a bunch of questions, mainly about his investment portion and when it was disclosed he didn't have much skin in the game, they decided it wasn't worth the risk. There were many who felt we (Charlotte taxpayers) missed out on a great opportunity to become a "World Class" city by not having a MLS team but after getting held up for upgrades to the football stadium and arena where the NBA team play, many of us let it be known that we were tired of paying for sports facilities for millionaires. If the Smith family were to buy NASCAR, I could see them trying to strong arm communities for track upgrades and tax breaks. Ironically enough, in today's Charlotte newspaper it was reported that the Smith family of racetracks (Speedway Motorsports Inc, a publicly traded company) reported a 7.4% DECLINE in revenue, so if they were to pursue NASCAR, rest assured that the France family is aware the numbers are working against them. Whatever the outcome, the reality is that NASCAR racing has definitely changed and whomever assumes control will have to find a way to make it relevant again if they want to see it return to the popularity it once held.
  3. Wrong thread, but I like the way you are thinking!
  4. Yeah, and then we can get all new tool NASCAR model car kits! Watching Sunday's race and seeing all the empty seats, I figured this day would come as it has to be hard to convince a track owner to upgrade his facility to only see fewer fans show up every year. Last year I had a bunch of tickets to race week here in Charlotte (All Star Race thru Coke 600) and could not give them away. People have moved on to other entertainment, even TV ratings are down, because it's become the same old, same old.
  5. VERY NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE! Great details, execution and that paint is beautiful.
  6. Nice job, looks clean and well detailed.
  7. Well, tomorrow is the big day, anyone have some inside scoop what the new company will announce? Let's start speculating now.......................
  8. I have seen it as well, get my chuckles and move on. I also see on Facebook people asking stoopid prices for kits, like a 66 Suburban for $30 + shipping! Really? That kit can be had for less money at online retailers with a reasonable ship fee to boot! If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby or even online, you can get 40% off of the $29.95 MSRP.
  9. Scenes Unlimited is a great source of wheels and tires, although you would have to chrome the wheels. Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland also has some nice wheels.
  10. coming along nicely, I am liking the way this is turning out.
  11. I am in the process of re-doing my work area and trying to get it better organized. I will try to upload pictures when I get it done. To date I use model boxes, some clear totes from Big Lots that are shoe box sized, a couple of 4 drawer plastic rolling organizers that hold resin parts and kits, tires and wheels. I use a silverware drawer organizer turned sideways to store my bottled paint.
  12. Impressive, the only word that comes to mind to describe your project. Love the old Mack!
  13. I believe the gas tank would be located in the usual position, likely on the frame with a filler neck coming up under the dump bed. Some internet searches should give you an idea of where to locate the tank and filler neck. The exhaust could be either a short run with a muffler ending just past the cab or a full exhaust ending after the tires, similar to a stock pickup exhaust. Internet searches will probably yield a bunch of different images and it's really up to you as to how you want to run it. It does look better with the rear axle set back a bit, have you thought about mud flaps?
  14. I sent an inquiry to Don and Carol the other day about my order and got a nice, detailed response back from Carol asking for my credit card information as it has been deleted from their file. I called and actually got to speak to Don and he sounded tired and ready for retirement, which he is forecasting for this June. My order is from July 5 2016 and is scheduled to be put into production next week and shipped by the end of May. I wished him well and thanked him for all that they have done for our hobby and he was very humble about it all. If you haven't contacted them with your information, be sure to so they can finally retire and relax.
  15. Are you sure? I could have sworn it was Tuesday Oct. 23rd, 1956 at high noon!
  16. My advice- steer clear of this place. They will only force you to buy more kits and then you will run into storage issues. The fact that they ship quickly and the prices are great only adds to lure of buying more. I had to delete it from my favorites as it was causing a problem with my health. I made a vow to only spend my lunch money on kits and because of the Sales Shack I have missed lunch for nearly three weeks now! Okay, obviously the above statement is made in jest, I have bought from them and they have great prices and service and would recommend them to anyone! And to those members who have met or know me, they will attest it has been a long time since I missed a meal!
  17. Nice story, too bad he didn't consider gifting it to you, that would have been a great gift!
  18. That is a beautiful Corvette and I would like to be second in line if possible! Love the color combination and drivetrain! An old co-worker had a similar Vette- 66 with the 427 single carb set up- and it provided many smiles when we'd go for rides!
  19. Sadly someone probably ordered it for the sole purpose of re-selling it on eBay to make big bucks. For those of us who ordered to get something to build it only delayed us and the Holthaus's retirement.
  20. Just did a trade with 68shortfleet, went smooth and great communication.
  21. OMG, are you serious???????? Where did you read/hear that?????? That would be the worst thing to happen to our hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Say it ain't so! I better buy up all of the Revell kits I can before it's too late!
  22. Don't forget the A/C compressor, that pulley is suspended in air! Looking good, nice details.
  23. If they are anything like your other products, they should be a great seller! Looking forward to seeing them.
  24. Not to be a wise guy, but sounds like bad timing on your behalf. With the bankruptcy court shutting down the offices after accepting the winning bid, I would think there are many in the same boat as you. Hopefully once everything is settled on May 8 and the new company can start discussing what the future is for Revell USA, one of the things they continue to offer is a parts replacement service similar to previous ownership. In the meantime, you might consider offering up one of your incorrect hoods for trade (if it's possible) here to at least allow you to have the correct part for the future.
