  1. If you are doing a full on detailed build, then search out the kit you want. If you are doing a curbside or are not concerned about the drivetrain, then the Revell snap fast 70 Chevelle kit builds up real nice and easy.
  2. I get what you are saying but like the 1:1 world, many view model building as an expression of art. Now, it will be argued what constitutes art and whose definition you use, but what is ugly to one is beauty to another. Some vehicles lend themselves to being customized better than others, but as I learned early on in life...To each his own. A good example for me would be lowriders. I don't think much of them as useful means of transportation but I do admire the work (usually the paint) that goes into them. While I might drool over a properly restored 1969 Camaro, the next guy will say it should be cut up and given the pro touring look with cartoon wheels and modern amenities. Whatever your taste, know that you are probably not alone and hopefully there is enough other like minded people out there to share your view.
  3. I got my "other model car mag" yesterday and they had a full page ad in there about this auction. I am sure that there are some models that I would love to have but at the prices that they will go for they are out of my range! Sure hope some people buy them and build them though!
  4. Really nice job on that Chuck, love the details. Man, just when I think you are back on the rust and weathering kick, you slip in one of these shiny trucks!
  5. I like how you are "updating" this kit with some modern parts. Really like the interior upgrade to include the dash.
  6. I have thrown away more NASCAR kits than I was able to sell! Back in 2001 I remember Dale Sr. kits selling out after his death and people putting them on eBay trying to make a quick buck in the aftermath of his death. I have been a fan of NASCAR for 40 years but have yet to assemble one kit, don't know what it is about building a NASCAR that doesn't appeal to me.
  7. I think that is the same guy, because his ad clearly states "NO NASCAR" ! I understand that my list is not full of old sealed kits from the 70's, because if it was they would be on eBay ! I do have some old kits but they are holy grails and I am not planning on selling them yet. I may have found a buyer who is offering a very reasonable price, I will have to pay shipping but it will give the same result- cash and a clean transaction.
  8. That could be one reason Dave, but I would think it has more to do with having their shelves set up and making changes several times a year. Not sure how many stores they are up to but I would think coordinating the re-set and making sure enough models are ordered and in stock at their warehouses for replenishment means a fairly large order for Revell to fill. I would be surprised to NOT see the Suburban kit at Hobby Lobby, I figure they will be a couple of months behind.
  9. A fifth wheel flat bed for 1 ton trucks is one idea, a simple utility bed similar to the one The Modelhaus offered would be nice too. Resin tool boxes for the flat bed or pickup beds would be welcomed. Maybe a roll back kit? Take your time, gotta get a job and save some money first!
  10. I did receive two offers so far, both below what I feel I can accept at this point. One was from a forum member here and the other from a local buyer. The local buyer's offer was much higher and would not involve having to ship them. I might revisit the local buyers offer in a couple of days, money talks! I do appreciate the feedback from everyone.
  11. I contacted a record store here in Charlotte regarding selling some old albums I have. They are mostly looking for older, hard to find albums from the 50's to the 70's, Jazz being a popular genre. I was quoted a price of $1- $4 per album, depending on condition and artist. It was also noted that the album jacket HAD to be in decent condition too. I would check with a record store and also see if there are any local DJ's who might play that type of music, you could find someone willing to make an offer on all of them.
  12. Nice start, should look great when you have it done!
  13. That is very nice, looks great with the weathering and details.
  14. Thanks Dave, appreciate the feedback. I have been offered $5 a kit by someone local, mulling it over as it would be a clean transaction and done at once versus taking them to a show at the end of August and hoping to sell them and make that much. Never was a member of the Road Knights. They had one show here after I moved and then never heard another word about them again. They held their meetings at Accurate Miniatures in Concord, about 45 minutes away. There is a SCMA chapter in Rock Hill that is closer, joined for a couple of years but was never home for their meetings.
  15. great review, makes me want one even more.
  16. That is looking beautiful Danny, really can tell you spent some time coming up with that design. That dumper looks great on the Meng, gives me an idea of what to do with one of the kits in the stash. Take your time getting it ready, being out of work means I can't spend any money right now and hopefully it will only be a short period of time before I can start spending again. I am guessing this is the first in a line of different types of beds you have in mind for light commercial trucks, hoping the next one is a modern wheel lift wrecker bed!
  17. All great points and I appreciate everyone's comments so far. I get the whole "They gotta make a profit" angle and I don't blame someone but I can hold off selling some kits if all someone is willing to pay is $3-5 a kit! The kits that are not complete is one thing, but a sealed kit that is on the shelf at any retailer or LHS for $25 is worth more than $3! There is a show next month near Winston Salem that I will look into getting a table at. Even if the sealed kits go for $10 each, that is $400 and it would be worth the wait compared to taking half or less. I do have them in a spreadsheet if anyone wants to look them over and make an offer. PM me and I will try to get the list to you, just need your email. Thanks again.
  18. I found myself unemployed Friday afternoon and have some model kits I was planning to sell later this year that I would like to sell now as cash is kinda tight. There is someone here in Charlotte who has been running an ad in the paper and I have sent him a list and see what his interest is. My question is this: Have any of you had a personal experience selling a collection to one of the noted collection buyers ? I am talking about Spotlight Hobbies, Deans Hobby Stop or Fred Sterns. Good or bad, I'd like to hear what your experience was like. I like the idea of selling locally as it eliminates the cost of shipping, which I would put at $125 or so as there are 67 kits in 5 large boxes. Thanks in advance.
  19. Exactly what I was thinking. I would locate the spray booth as far away from the lathes as possible for the reasons Ben states. If they have to be in the same room, try to create an area on opposite sides for them.
  20. Took a new job 95 days ago and in addition to being more of what I used to do, it was more pay and seemed to be a better company than where I was. Things were going well and I enjoyed the job and was starting to hit my groove and connect with customers (it was a field sales position). Spent this week with my boss making calls and trying to land new business, long days but they can be rewarding. Boss stays over until today instead of heading back home yesterday as planned, says we have to do my 90 day review and cover a few things to make sure I am up to speed on certain things. Says to meet him at the hotel this morning around 11 so I make sure all of my reports and expenses are done so I am in compliance with the rules. Imagine my surprise when I walk in to meet him and the HR lady is there! At first I figure it might be policy to have her there for the review but then they hand me a letter and tell me I am no longer needed. I can't understand why they hired me only to let me go citing a lack of business, which they were aware of before they hired me! Gotta love corporate America. Work hard and they stick it to you. Second time in less than 2 years, start to wonder what the heck is wrong with me or is it just bad luck?
  21. Coming along nicely, take your time on the foil and it will look like the real thing! I did notice what appears to be a faint mold line on the front fender. It could be my eyes but it is worth looking at the body after laying down the primer to make sure any mold lines are cleaned up.
  22. I like this....a lot! Nice job, should look great when finished!
  23. Nice job Chuck! I haven't even seen this kit around here and yet some of you are posting completed builds already!
  24. Sure Danny, I saved all my lunch money for my last order to you and now you go and get another piece I want! Looks nice, anxious to see it ready for sale!
  25. Nice job so far, those pictures just reinforce my need to get a couple of these!
