  1. Sorry for your loss and even more sorry to hear about your family issues. For some, avoiding situations like the death of a sibling can be hard while others can be self centered and uncaring. Take solace in the fact that you were there for your dad and made an effort to have his family say their goodbyes. I lost my father to dementia 3 years ago and it was hard to see a once proud, strong, smart man reduced to a shell of his former self. I saw him about 6 weeks before he passed and while he kinda recognized me, I had a hard time seeing him like that. My mother passed last year from a series of strokes and that was harder to see as she had been doing well after losing my dad before they hit. I know that the VA is a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH shoot, have family and friends who have had dealings with them and it has been work for all of them.
  2. Nice collection and glad the Petty family got to see and enjoy it.
  3. envious of your skills and ability to capture the correct look, regardless of subject. I am always impressed with how you are able to take one subject and create an entirely different one while making it seem so easy! I will be watching this, really love these old cornbinders!
  4. That is looking very nice, great job on the bed and sander body.
  5. Like so many of your other builds, very impressive! Love the color scheme and as always, perfect execution on the crew cab conversion and chassis build.
  6. Update to my previous post- Got an email from Danny telling me my order shipped today ! Hard to believe that in about a week's time I will go from placing an order to having it on my doorstep! To be fair, what I ordered he had in stock but I ordered about 14 different items in various quantities and I cannot be more impressed with his turnaround time. Like I said, don't hesitate to order, the service and quality of the product is superior.
  7. Thanks for sharing Tom, I missed it this year due to work, always a great show. A lot of nice models, looks like a good turnout as usual.
  8. I have had great success with two other resin places and highly recommend them: 1. Scenes Unlimited- Danny has the nicest stuff and great service. Wheels and Tires for most any vehicle you can think of. 2. Fireball Modelworks- Joseph has incredible stuff and you won't be disappointed. Great service as well! MAD has a lot of neat stuff, Kris is another resin caster with great product and service.
  9. I have seen a vendor at a couple of shows here in the Southeast that does something similar- Xtreme Scale Detail. They carry a lot of detail items and might have what you are looking for. www.xtremescaledetail.com
  10. If you haven't signed up for an Ollie's card, do it next time you are there. I got a post card in the mail today that gives me an extra 15% off my next purchase, imagine another discount on top of an already great price!
  11. nice job, very clean and well detailed. Love the color.
  12. Amy, There is a big model car swap meet in Wheaton at the county fairgrounds, usually in September. This would be a great place to sell off some of your Dad's stuff and a great way to see it going to a good home. Not sure of the dates but I am sure someone here can supply the date, it is usually on a Saturday/
  13. Just wanted to give another shout out to Danny. I had been waiting for him to get a couple of items back into inventory and he let me know that he has them available via a PM and I sent him an order last night. 30 minutes later I have an email with an invoice and I have no doubt the order will be here before I know it! Another great caster who is serious about his customers and taking care of them. If you are wondering about ordering from Scenes Unlimited, don't hesitate to do so, you will be glad you did!
  14. I sent an email to Chris Olson regarding his resin products and he responded very quickly yesterday. A couple of emails later I had placed my order and he was prompt with a PayPal invoice and said to expect my order within a week or so. Order was based on this thread and others comments about his quality, looking forward to getting his stuff and finishing up a couple of builds.
  15. I like it! That camper might get a little warm inside without any windows.
  16. What, no faded paint or rust? Nice job Chuck, love the color and stance, a little more wheel travel room is definitely needed. I need to get my rear in gear on my 4x4 conversion.
  17. As always, nice details and the weathering is spot on Chuck. I knew there was a reason for your silence and now we can see what you have been up to!
  18. I remember finding them at an old 5 and Dime when I was about 8. Loved them, played with them along side my Matchbox and Hot Wheels. Later I used them with my HO train set. I would love to see them back, nice subjects.
  19. Has anybody had an issue with the body having a slight twist to it? I got one of mine ready to prime today and it looks like the body has a twist to it. I will check it on a flat surface and straight edge to make sure it isn't an illusion.
  20. Neat subject matter and I will be watching. I remember many of these being used in so many different applications growing up. We had an IH truck dealer in town and I loved driving by there as a kid seeing the trucks! If anyone can do justice to building this,it is you Charles! Hopefully you can find someone to resin cast these and offer them up to the rest of us, if you want. I can see so many trucks- farm stake bed, dump truck, wrecker, box delivery, fire truck, and so many more!
  21. It was mentioned above that this was intended to be a pre-painted kit and thus the simplistic approach to the kit- metal axles, one piece bed- and that is how we have this kit. I agree that we shouldn't have to accept metal axles in this modern day of model kits but if it helps Revell sell more kits to a broader audience and thus develop more kits, then that is the end result. Given that there are fewer new kits and only a couple of companies bringing out new kits, it is what it is.
  22. That is awesome to hear Kris, any chance that you will do a short bed for the 73-79 Fords too?
  23. I keep checking my local Hobby Lobby to see if they have filled the slot with these. This kit looks like a winner to me and I will have to buy a couple and like Darin mentions, the wheels are worth the price of the kit!
  24. Your argument for a store sounds great TJ, but let me ask you a question and please don't be offended. How much money do you spend on hobby supplies and kits per month? Depending on your answer, you will see why a hobby shop is or isn't a viable business in your town. Basic math: You spend $100/month X 12 months = $1,200 gross sales. Let's say the store makes 25% gross profit on your purchases or $300 for the whole year. Quiz time: How many shoppers like you will it take to support a hobby shop? At least 500 is my guess because using the basic math example, I would suspect a store would be spending roughly $12,000 per month on expenses (rent, utilities, wages, taxes, insurance, advertising, inventory to name a few). Now ask yourself, how many other model builders do you know in your county? I remember when Hobby Lobby first carried models and aircraft/military had one side of the aisle and cars/trucks had the other side and now they don't even make up one side of the aisle together! You can bet they studied sales history and which models sold at regular price and which ones sold at clearance. If they could justify having more models (sales demand) you can bet they would. Hobby Lobby has the benefit of being a craft store so they can carry things that are sold across multiple hobbies like Xacto knives, spray paint, paint pens, etc.whereas a small hobby shop may not be able to do the same. The idea to open up a little store in a corner of an existing business could give you an idea of how successful a full on hobby shop might be and would be a whole lot cheaper to start with.
  25. The one Ben has is closer to what your original picture depicts. Might want to check out a Wal Mart, they sometimes have diecast trucks similar to these.
