1972 Ford F100 4x4
mikemodeler replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
What, no faded paint or rust? Nice job Chuck, love the color and stance, a little more wheel travel room is definitely needed. I need to get my rear in gear on my 4x4 conversion. -
1969 Ford F350 Wrecker
mikemodeler replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
As always, nice details and the weathering is spot on Chuck. I knew there was a reason for your silence and now we can see what you have been up to! -
I remember finding them at an old 5 and Dime when I was about 8. Loved them, played with them along side my Matchbox and Hot Wheels. Later I used them with my HO train set. I would love to see them back, nice subjects.

Has anybody had an issue with the body having a slight twist to it? I got one of mine ready to prime today and it looks like the body has a twist to it. I will check it on a flat surface and straight edge to make sure it isn't an illusion.

Neat subject matter and I will be watching. I remember many of these being used in so many different applications growing up. We had an IH truck dealer in town and I loved driving by there as a kid seeing the trucks! If anyone can do justice to building this,it is you Charles! Hopefully you can find someone to resin cast these and offer them up to the rest of us, if you want. I can see so many trucks- farm stake bed, dump truck, wrecker, box delivery, fire truck, and so many more!

It was mentioned above that this was intended to be a pre-painted kit and thus the simplistic approach to the kit- metal axles, one piece bed- and that is how we have this kit. I agree that we shouldn't have to accept metal axles in this modern day of model kits but if it helps Revell sell more kits to a broader audience and thus develop more kits, then that is the end result. Given that there are fewer new kits and only a couple of companies bringing out new kits, it is what it is.

MAD Chevy/ GMC long beds
mikemodeler replied to Ben's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That is awesome to hear Kris, any chance that you will do a short bed for the 73-79 Fords too? -
I keep checking my local Hobby Lobby to see if they have filled the slot with these. This kit looks like a winner to me and I will have to buy a couple and like Darin mentions, the wheels are worth the price of the kit!

Your argument for a store sounds great TJ, but let me ask you a question and please don't be offended. How much money do you spend on hobby supplies and kits per month? Depending on your answer, you will see why a hobby shop is or isn't a viable business in your town. Basic math: You spend $100/month X 12 months = $1,200 gross sales. Let's say the store makes 25% gross profit on your purchases or $300 for the whole year. Quiz time: How many shoppers like you will it take to support a hobby shop? At least 500 is my guess because using the basic math example, I would suspect a store would be spending roughly $12,000 per month on expenses (rent, utilities, wages, taxes, insurance, advertising, inventory to name a few). Now ask yourself, how many other model builders do you know in your county? I remember when Hobby Lobby first carried models and aircraft/military had one side of the aisle and cars/trucks had the other side and now they don't even make up one side of the aisle together! You can bet they studied sales history and which models sold at regular price and which ones sold at clearance. If they could justify having more models (sales demand) you can bet they would. Hobby Lobby has the benefit of being a craft store so they can carry things that are sold across multiple hobbies like Xacto knives, spray paint, paint pens, etc.whereas a small hobby shop may not be able to do the same. The idea to open up a little store in a corner of an existing business could give you an idea of how successful a full on hobby shop might be and would be a whole lot cheaper to start with.

Another GMC project idea

The one Ben has is closer to what your original picture depicts. Might want to check out a Wal Mart, they sometimes have diecast trucks similar to these. -
Another GMC project idea

Definitely looks like a Holmes bed. I think there was a die cast version of that wrecker ( or one close to it), not certain of the scale as it may not be 1/24-1/25. -
Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stopped by the Ollie's in Matthews NC today and noticed they had restocked some of the model kits. My previous trip I saw only Lindberg kits and today they had some Revell kits out. The Sox & Martin GTX, 99 Mustang, Snap PT Cruiser & Porsche Boxster, 99 Silverado Custom, a couple of dragsters and one other kit that escapes me. Like others mentioned, keep checking as they seem to get more stock in and are adding to the display. -
Looks great! Nice work on fixing the front clip and that paint is very nice!

I am at a loss for comments so I will just say WOW! Very impressive details and absolutely clean build.

I was thinking about buying this kit to bash the wrecker assembly onto another build but before I shell out the cash, wanted to see if anyone had opinions (good or bad) about the accuracy of wrecker parts.I always thought this kit was a bit cartoonish but after thinking about it, figured the wrecker assembly had to be rooted in another kit and they simply lifted it to create another kit. If you have pictures of using this assembly on another truck, that would be most helpful.

They are not on the website but Danny is recasting them and building up inventory. The part number is T47 and hopefully he has them back in stock and ready to order later this week.

AMT 1966 Pro Street Nova
mikemodeler replied to Steve "Stangfreak? Mason's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'd say that you did a great job making lemonade out of lemons there! I agree that it can be a bit tricky but dry fitting with white glue can sometimes save a ton of frustration. -
International Loadstar1600
mikemodeler replied to Chariots of Fire's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have you reached out to our resident IH expert Dave aka Loadstar (IIRC)? I would think he would be in the know and might have the information you seek. -
Danny at Scenes Unlimited has those tires in his line, he is currently working on the molds to get them back in stock. I intend to use them on several builds I have going. He will have them in 15 and 16.5 inch sizes.

Hobby Lobby made my day
mikemodeler replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks to this post I stopped in and picked up a 1mm pen today. I will check it out and if it works as advertised, might pick up the 2mm pen too! -
My new employer is involved in motorsports and specifically, has tickets to the races here in Charlotte. Two weeks ago it was the 4 wide nationals and my ears still are recovering but what a great time that was. Today I received a package that has a bunch of tickets for the upcoming NASCAR races this month here in Charlotte and I get to hand them out to customers! Guess who will be making friends next week as I play Santa ? ME ! Sure looking forward to being the nice guy with goodies.

Steve, any chance you have the pictures of this new kit to share? I'm guessing that if you are working on a box art model, then we should be seeing this kit late summer/early Fall?

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was at the Ollies in N. Charleston SC yesterday and they had almost all Lindberg models except for some Fink Speedwagons and Dodge VTS pickups from Revell. I stopped in a Hobby Lobby and ironically enough, they had a Speedwagon on their clearance shelf for $14.99, almost twice what the same kit at Ollies was going for.
