1/25 Revell '63 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe SnapTite
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
And this was my attempt at recreating that car in scale using the kit decals. Not my best work but it works for a shelf model.... -
Unbelievable details and incredible skills to scratchbuild all of them! In total awe of this!

That looks great, nice colors and details. -
Motor trend super models
mikemodeler replied to R. Thorne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So, if he hacks up kits and rushes through them, he's doing a disservice to the hobby? If he takes his time and builds a trophy winner with exact details, he will have some lose interest because they can't wait for all four episodes to see the finished product? I view this show as entertainment, nothing more. Steve has a ton of knowledge and that is the part of the show that I enjoy. I've been hacking bodies and slathering paint since the early 70's, he and I are about the same age and from the looks of it, at the same skill level! I think it's great that he was able to convince the people at MT to let him do these shows. My guess is that it was super low budget and he barely made any money on the deal. My wife thought it was cool that our hobby got a few minutes on TV as she knows how hard we work on our builds and the time and money invested in it. -
Awesome work, glad to see you back posting updates!

Olson Bros will have the 71-73 & 74-75 Scout grilles soon, along with some bumpers for them.
-
Probably not period correct, but the chassis from the MPC 84 GMC pickup and the 4x4 gear match up nicely under these Revell trucks if you really want a 4x4.

I've noticed a lot of current kits as being out of stock or temporarily unavailable at various online sellers and figure it probably has a lot to do with the shipping situation from Asia and the increased costs to get stuff here. I think some might have thought this was discontinued because Hobby Lobby put them on clearance but more likely they just wanted to change their planogram for the hobby aisle. To your point about stockpiling, I have several set aside for different versions I want to build.

Ugh, why is Round 2 molding kits in color again? The last issues I have of this kit were in that light gray plastic, very easy to paint. Like the Coke C-10 being molded in red, this being in yellow means some extra steps in paint prep.

2021 IPMS Nationals Kit Information
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Some neat stuff for sure, I think the only 69 Camaro version left for them to do is a SS350 or a L-6 ! The Moebius stuff is encouraging, those Novas and trucks are going to ruin my budget! -
Or a Chevy. That 65 Nova in the background would look good on the back of that ramp truck.
-
Probably to give perspective on the size of the model......and to show off how much cash they are carrying around. That picture was probably snapped in Vegas at the IPMS Nats.

Looks like some cool stuff coming, hoping they don't take forever!

Chevy Corvair Ramp side pickup 1/25
mikemodeler replied to robertburns's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Just a FYI, Robert hasn't visited here in 8 months. You can find him on FB at Too Many Projects. -
I live in the 16th largest city in America by population and we do not have any local hobby shops. The closest thing is a Hobbytown USA about 25 miles north of Charlotte. There are rumors there will be another HTU in Charlotte this year, but nothing yet. To buy a kit locally, one has to shop at Hobby Lobby or Michael's. I have bought more and more online as the LHS in the area have disappeared. I don't view HL as a hobby store in the same sense as what I grew up with back in the day, but more like a retail outlet like I remember as a kid like K-Mart.

Uh, it's more like "Our product management team evaluates which products to add and discontinue based upon a software program". To think that one person writing into a company with hundreds of locations nationwide is going to get them to share how they make business decisions is a bit of a stretch.

At Walmart (at least one store)
mikemodeler replied to Classicgas's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the update Lee, I will have to check mine to see what they have. Did you buy all three that you mentioned or just the Olds? -
Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a few roll back wreckers built using that frame, maybe a period correct U-Haul truck?
-
I gotta believe that something happened to his computer and I bet when/if he comes back he will have all kinds of cool updates to this, just too good to have stopped working on this.

Joel Mendoza at Iceman Collections is working on a GMC grille and liftgate/tailgate package for this kit. Not sure of a timeline but my guess is soon.
-
Good question, because 210 is supposed to be the Sept/Oct issue.

77 GMC 4x4
mikemodeler replied to bluestringer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Those mirrors are a real pita to get set right. That truck has some assembly issues but can look decent and yours looks good.
