  1. Weird! I came here to post, and...no reply box! Tried it three times, never got one. Had to hit the quote to get one. Anyway... My '69 Camaro is finished--GOTTER DONE! It doesn't really look like what I had in mind when I started the build, but I'll tell that story later Under Glass. Here's one quick pic just to show it's on the shelf:
  2. You must have discovered a secret source of '67-'69 Cougars and '65-'69 Barracudas. Unless you're counting the reissues of the AMT and MPC '69s (respectively).
  3. You only have one choice, the AMT '55 Bel Air sedan (can be converted into the one above), and it's available now wherever models are sold.
  4. So that makes it about 1/23.3--that's closer to 1/24 than they usually get.
  5. Thanks for all the input and ideas, fellas! I looked for aircraft stripper at Walmart yesterday. Didn't find it, but then I didn't really want to spend $8 or (probably) more to "rescue" this 2nd or 3rd rate $5 diecast, which was supposed to be a quick, easy project, not a Major Big Deal. The damage was confined to the right front fender, and the right side of the hood, which is fortunately split into roughly "thirds" with a styling line (it's an '83 Camaro), and a little bit on the very front of the right door. I went looking around the Snakepit and discovered I had some old paint that's a near-perfect match for the color that's on it (kind of a school-bus yellow), so last night I carefully scraped and sanded all the wrinkled paint off the fender and right 1/3 of the hood. I'm gonna try to mask that area off, lay white primer on it, then airbrush the yellow. We'll see what happens. The body has a lot of chips in the paint all over, especially on front and rear edges. It could really stand to be stripped and repainted at some point, but I just don't want to do that right now, I just want to wrap up this "rescue" as quick and easy as possible. If the yellow bubbles up later, it'll give me incentive to re-do the whole thing "right." Thanks again, everybody!
  6. Good stuff! I think you've got even more C3 Vettes than I do, even if I cheat and throw in four diecasts. Lemme see, I have (completed) an original AMT '69 survivor, a Revell '69 coupe, a Revell '68 roadster, an AMT '70 full kit and an AMT '70 promo-style snapper. Plus which there's an MPC '74 promo on the workbench right now, that I REALLY need to get back to. (Might do that one for BOYD Round 5, maybe.) Drive on!
  7. Wow, that is looking REALLY nice! You are REALLY making me want to do my '64. Drive on!
  8. It looks fine! Drive on and GITTER DONE! (Tomorrow's the deadline, folks.) I just realized that I neglected to congratulate Bobthehobbyguy and Tom on our SIXTH AND SEVENTH COMPLETIONS! GOTTEM DONE! We are closing strong! For a while there I thought this whole BOYD build idea was dead, but you guys have really come through in the final hours. I should be completing my Camaro today, and it looks like Straightliner59 will finish his Firebird, so we could end up with 8, 9, or even more completions this round, which is right on track with what we accomplished in Rounds 1-3! GITTER DONE!
  9. Yeah, the top looks chopped, or at least the rear window seems shallow. The chop-top look is not uncommon with JADAs. Gramps, how's the size/scale of the thing? I always assume that JADAs will be 2 or 3 or 4 scale points too big. The only ones I've seen that are close to actual 1/24 are the big Cadillacs.
  10. Agree, very nice build that captures the look of the day. Well done and model on!
  11. Very clean build, very nice! Well done and model on!
  12. Very cool project! I never realized I wanted one of these until I saw yours. Will have to keep my eyes open for a rebuildable, affordable glue bomb. Drive on!
  13. Very cool collection! I don't have hardly any of those, but I do have a 2005 Corvette, which according to your caption must be a Motor Max. I have another one just like it in solid bright red, too, but I like this one better. With this on my shelf, I have little desire to go to the trouble of building a plastic model of it.
  14. Jolene is absolutely my all-time favorite Dolly Parton song, no matter who's singing it. Thanks all for the great covers! Now, in a similar vein.... Here's a more modern song in the same vein. Different song completely, different style, but absolutely the same theme, same message:
  15. It looks like it was designed to run off about six D cells. (It also needs a Fisher-Price logo on it.)
  16. Bob, I'm calling your our SIXTH COMPLETION! GOTTER DONE! Well done! And don't forget you've still got a couple days to do those paint touchups and add the hoses.
  17. Just had a weird thing happen. Was working on a cheap diecast last night, was planning to touch up the yellow paint and Snake-Fu the thing this weekend. Set it down on my bench overnight, today the paint is peeling off the right front fender in wrinkly sheets, as if I'd hit it with a stripper! Dunno what it might have reacted with, but it was sitting next to a CLOSED tube of body putty. Some slight fumage escaping from the tube maybe? (I can't smell anything.) Anyway, looks like I'm now gonna have to strip the whole body and repaint it. Well, I've got a suitable color on hand, so not a huge deal. The question is, will Super Clean (dilute lye, basically) react badly with the diecast metal? I know you don't want to get Easy Off on aluminum--is there any danger like that? Anyone stripped diecasts in the Purple Pond?
  18. I just scored a Shirley Shahan on ePay for $38. Never built, never painted. Looks like it's missing the Cragar wheels and only shows 3 tires, not a huge deal. The taillights might be missing, too, but all the rest of important stuff is there, so still a good deal. I can't remember the last time I saw one go for under $50 and asking prices seem to be in the $90 range. Just remembered, a friend of mine has a real one and has been looking for the model. He's a very good builder and painter and I'd feel okay turning it over to him. Wonder if he's got anything interesting to swap for it, hmmmmmmm?
  19. I've done it on a couple, it the handle sticks out far enough. One I remember was the Revell '67 Chevelle.
  20. Lay it on me. Been buying a bunch lately, maybe I've already made it happen! If you hear that Round 2 has decided to restore the '66 Impala dirt-tracker to factory stock....well, you're welcome! (Oven in Model Airplane World, you make a new kit happen by laboriously building a vac-form, preferably and old and rare one, and getting it almost finished.)
  21. I believe it's just the scoop.
  22. That looks like LeMans Blue, more or less. As to the stripes, either black or white would be available/appropriate for a LeMans Blue car. However, if you're doing a true COPO, the stripes would be rare. Not impossible, just rare. Remember, there's no definitive list of exactly what 9561 Camaros were built, so you can build one any way that's theoretically possible. Now the 69 9560 (Zl-1) Camaros are a different story--details are available on every single one of them, so if you want to build an accurate replica, you have to follow one of the documented recipes.
  23. Well, just since you asked.
  24. Mine was #714--same as Joe Friday's badge number. (The number would assume another significance in the mid-'70s, but of that we will not speak more. ) I still have my decal on my metal parts bin with the little plastic drawers. (I still occasionally take some 50-yo parts out of that thing and USE them on a model to this day!)
  25. Believe me, I get that. But every once in a while they manage to turn out a somewhat cool car in spite of him.
