  1. If you're going to polish it, clear coat it first. Polishing that color "opens up" the flakes and changes the color significantly. Please don't ask me how I know this.
  2. Mine had one of those in the other day. Wish they'd had it when I bought the red one. I'd rather have silver, but I just don't see myself owning two of them. Oh well. The red one's cool too. One of the easiest Snake-Fus I've ever done. It doesn't take much to get it looking really sharp.
  3. Getting in the mood to build a Revell '65 Chevelle Z16, but don't particularly want to build a stock one, especially not in the limited color choices. Thinking about racing options. I've found pics of exactly one that was raced, a red one. I know one was also fitted with a Turbonique rear axle (probably a yellow one), and I think the Joey Chitwood Thrill Show had one (which doesn't interest me all that much). So I'm thinking about maybe doing a "phantom" Stocker, or Factory Experimental, or maybe even an AWB funny car. (Z16s were rare even in the day, with only around 200 made, but they wouldn't have been worshipped as Holy Grail icons the way they are today.) How about a Dave Strickler Old Reliable Z16? Maybe in the yellow? Maybe better yet, how about Jenkins? How might that look? More like his '65 Plymouth Black Arrow, or more like the red and white '66 Nova? Would he have painted it white, or started with a red one and added the white like the Nova? What if Jenkins and Stricker hadn't split up in '65, and stayed together under the Old Reliable banner? Maybe the car would have ended up with AWB and injectors by the end of the season, like the Black Arrow Plymouth. Maybe a Dick Harrell red one? What if Jungle Jim had broken with Lew Arrington in '65 and gone on his own, creating a Brutus-like Z16 with AWB, setback, blower, and the blue paint and graphics of his '66 Nova funny? The possibilities are interesting, are they not? (Anyone got any other ideas?)
  4. Nice! I've been wanting to try that for a long time. I think I'm gonna just use the '66 Nova pro street chassis, though.
  5. Atmobile, I feel your pain, having very recently restored the chassis of a very glue-bombed and broken up Revell EMPI Imp, which broke into even MORE pieces as I went. But I persevered and got it back together, eventually. For your inspiration, a couple Before and After pics: Now, drive on! GITTER DONE!
  6. I've got a couple glue bomb Monogram '69 GTOs I picked up for "rescuing"--I want to do one in polished orange plastic. It's possible I could put together a full set of wheels/tires for you if you're interested. Surely there's SOME way to adapt them to the DM diecast.
  7. Very nice, and a different interpretation of this kit. You did about as well as can be done with the wretched backbirth. Well done and model on!
  8. Very nice, very sharp, very clean, I like it! All it needs to be perfect is some love on the side marker lights. Well done and model on!
  9. Here's what I'd do: 1. Disassemble, remove all removable parts. 2. Remove any tampo graphics or trim with non-acetone nail polish remover. 3. Block-sand as necessary with #600 to remove runs, drips, orange peel, or other unevenness. 4. Scuff with a fine Scotchbrite pad. 5. Degrease with rubbing alcohol. 6. Prime and paint as normal.
  10. Well, now somebody just HAS to tell that story. Cough it up!
  11. I didn't. My folks bought me a 26" bike just before the Sting Rays came out, and said no way I was "backing up." I DID, however, buy one--a red, early '70s 5-speed in VERY nice original condition--at a yard sale back in the late '80s for $35. Last time I checked, it's now worth about 10 times what I paid for it.
  12. Absolutely magnificent! One of the finest replica stock models I've ever seen anywhere, and perhaps your best yet. You really did justice to this rare old bird. Well done and model on!
  13. Looks like you could build that from the current reissue, right out of the box.
  14. Improvise! Adapt! Overcome!
  15. You can see the instructions here. Looks like some interesting possibilities here, including maybe TROG-type stuff. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/ford/1921-1930/amt-1923-ford-t-roa/
  16. With Copy and Paste. Or, back in the '60s, with Xacto knife and rubber cement.
  17. I'll take it! I'm sure I can use it on something! Email me at SnakeACP45 at AOL dot com and I'll give you my address. Thanks!
  18. And to really give you nightmares, it's rumored/alleged that the chassis of this car was made out of exhaust tubing.
  19. Better yet....
  20. Could the wheels and tires from a common Monogram '68-'69 GTO be made to work?
  21. This makes me wish we had a LIKE button here.
  22. What's wrong here? An apparently attractive woman has allowed herself to be photographed with a Renault.
  23. Looks like somebody needs a big swim in the Purple Pond!
  24. They make it in 1/87? I googled and could only find it in 1/18, 1/24, and 1/64.
