That's some nice conversion work. I used to own a 1/1 '78 Nova coupe, I didn't think the rooflines on the 2 door and 4 door were that close. Looks very correct.
Guys, I'm pretty sure the engine in the Monogram Red Baron kit was tooled up with the rest of the kit and not cribbed from somewhere else.
In fact, I'd bet my entire stash of show rods on it.
If you're looking for the larger diameter "pro touring" style wheels I'd suggest looking at some of the larger scale die-casts.
Some of them have huge wheels but the scale difference between the 1/16 and 1/18 diecasts might get you some wheels in a good size for the 1/16 scale kits.
The front bumper and grille of the AMT kit has more pronounced "V" to it and possibly has more of a forward lean than it should. The original comparison article in Scale Auto back in the day said it had a bit of a "Buick" look to it and I agree with that statement.
Other than that, it's a typical AMT kit of the day. I think the Revell kit just has a more crisp feel to it.
It was released a few years ago but I don't think it's still in production.
Reproduction decals for several of the versions were available form various aftermarket decal makers.
The "KISS" and "A-Team" vans were AMT.
Thanks Mike, it's '67 Mercury "lime frost poly" from Model Car World.
It's not quite that green in person. It also has a black vinyl roof now and the windows and most of the foil work done.
Actually, it's quite a stretch , more than a sheet of plastic.
This is the AMT '67 Mustang chassis BTW.
I really should get back on this Modelhaus resin one sometime soon. It has the AMT Mustang engine bay installed too.
Apparently it was originally a Palmer but it was never released by them back then for some reason and never released until Lindberg got the molds in the '90s.
It's cribbed off the AMT kit, almost an exact clone but imperfect. Like a clone with damaged DNA.
I should mention, those pics of the body were taken after a 10/15 minute soak in Easy Off to remove most of the layer of pearl nail polish that I got a paper towel stuck to.
