1964 Dodge D100
carnut replied to carnut's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Update: I have been working on the chassis for a bit and I am surprised as to how well the Dodge 330 chassis fits up in the cab, with a bit of work. I measured the cab space and lined up everything and cut the chassis in half almost. The chassis width is a little smaller than the cab. So I added Evergreen strip styrene around the edges and everything looks good. I also cut out the inside well wells, but I’ll rebuild them later. I did make a goof, I went online and found out that the 330 is a unibody with subframes so I made frame extenders to tie it all in. I forgot about the torsion bars - so I drilled holes for those to mount up in the crossmember. I’ll redo the tranny mount later. Enjoy the photos, and keep smiling. -
It has been quite awhile since I posted any builds so here goes. I picked up this Modelhaus 64 Dodge D100 SWB pickup a few months before they announced their retirement. The resin kit is ok, there will be some cleanup on this. It is inspired by Gas Monkey’s build from a few years ago - I want to keep mine all Mopar, the donor kit is the Lindberg 64 Dodge 330. What do you think? More to follow. Cheers

Here is what I did on my Tamiya 66 VW. I wanted my VDub to stupid low, so on the front end I cut the front axle horizontally down the middle and then cut 1 mm from each piece and then glued it back together. Next I cut up in the mounting box so the axle is really moved up. The rear end I cut notches on the suspension arm and then pushed it up and glued it in place. Evergreen styrene was used to re-enforce the glue joints.

I seem to remember someone said that the Chevy Luv pickups came with an ISUZU 4 cylinder. If so then another source might be the MPC 1978-80 or so Chevrolet Chevette. If someone can verify but I think the Chevette’s 4 banger is one. If true then once you find one you can then do a resin cast of the parts.

Will we ever see the Monogram S-10 again?
carnut replied to Jim H.'s topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Nope, both the Monogram and Revell S10 kits are 1:25 (same kits actually) I just checked, you are correct. Oh well. -

carnut replied to Jim H.'s topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I would like to see the old Monogram S10 issued as well. By the way I believe the Monogram S10 is 1/24 scale. -
If this is not allowed - then admins can go ahead and remove it: I just received in the mail the Other mag’s 35 year history from 1979-2013. I’m looking forward to reading among other things, Tim Boyd flathead 4 banger engine article and others. I’m not posting the photo of the DVD.

What did you see on the road today?
carnut replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At my local grocery store, I have seen and talked to the owner before. He is a young man in his late 20’s and the Chevy is his. He works at the store. -
Saturday I went to my local hobby shop for supplies and this decided to come home with me. I would like to find a set of mini lites and wide tires for this.

I agree about the rear wheel wells and I like how you resolved them, I’m taking notes - hope you don’t mind. Your craftsmanship is outstanding and inspiring. Keep it going please.

Mike, I didn't have the patience to sit through the entire Round 2 webcast (if that is what you are referring to) due to the amount of time spent on non-auto projects, so I don't know what was said there, and I certainly don't know all that the Round 2 team have up their sleeve right now. But a reasoned guess would be "yes". As always, time will tell! TB Tim, Thanks for responding. I didn’t watch the whole video either, I just watched the automotive part - like most of us, ha ha. frim what I saw and heard, the comment of we’re working on a muscle car too (or words to that effect) sounded more like a passing comment. You are correct, time will tell, what a great time to be a builder, cool ?
-
That is going to look nice. Knowing your building style I know it will come out great.
-
Thanks for sharing this Tim Boyd and all. I have a 1964 Olds hardtop that I got a few years back. Not to stur up anything, but could this be the muscle car that Round 2 mentioned that they were working on in their video? Hopefully we will see this sometime soon.

I picked this up last Saturday at my local LHS. I’ve built one of these before when the glue kit first came out as a 2016, so I kind of know what I’m up against. These are really sinister looking when you build them right.

I’ve got one of the AMT 25 T’s going, I never thought that I would like it until I got into it. An excellent boxed Model T frame and the suspension is great to modify. Mine shown has had the frame Z’d and the much maligned 241 Red Ram out of the newer Ala Kart. Hope that y’all enjoy.
-
Well I didn’t get this today, but I attended a model show this last Saturday in Clackamas Oregon and among the things I got was an AMT 1959 Fairlane Hardtop body and a complete built up of a 1962 Lincoln Continental Hardtop. Time for some Superclean.

I have used the staggered chop on various bodies, it indeed works. You do have to do a bit of thinking it out in some applications.
-
My thoughts too Snake45, My own opinion, I would be very surprised if they really do a 4 door hardtop or whatever. Personally I’d be looking for a re-issue of the 67 hardtop with a wheel change. Not that I’m trying to kill an otherwise good conversation.

Personally as far as the real cars go, I much prefer the 63 Impala over the 64 Impala, that’s just my opinion. With that being said, the AMT or REVELL 63 would make a great starting point for a mid 60’s custom. Just an idea.

mrmike, and anyone else for that matter. Before you toss out your color of paint you might want to shoot your color over a white primer. It’s an old car painters trick I learned from my dad years ago. Simply light colors and warm colors shoot over white it makes the color more vibrant. Also the paint colors would very a bit from day to day during assembly (atmospheric conditions). It looks good so far, keep it going. Best Regards
-
Nice work, I hope that you keep going on this.

I like what you are doing so far. I personally like the retooled version from AMT.
