  1. Outstanding weathering. Looks like a bunch of tree sap, black mold, and some stuff that would get this post censored. Thanks for sharing.
  2. This year's theme at the Carolina Kustom Modelers show is "Screws and Axles" kits that came with screw on chassis and wire axles. I have been planning on a fully stylized '61 Galaxie for some time. While looking through some other kits I came across the twin bubbles in the Monogram 58 T-Bird. A bit of measuring and I realized they could be fairly easily adapted to the '61 Galaxie, so out came the scribe and razor saw. Within a few minutes the top was no longer (I envision it on a '49 Ford custom). I am using the complete advanced stylized custom pieces for this build and will probably be scratchbuilding an interior since the kit interior is one piece including the seats. Anyway here is where I am right now. This sucker is going to be long, each of those blocks are an inch wide.
  3. That is one outstandingly smooth silver paint job. The whole build is over the top, excellent work.
  4. Looks really good, the chop is subtle and I really like the suicide doors. Because of the rounded top of the Willys I know that chop was a real trick to accomplish, but you did a fine job.
  5. Looking forward to where you go with this one. I really like the older style customs, from mild to somewhat wild. As already said your eye for proportions is superb.
  6. 1949-1951 Chevy.
  7. That is one wicked Gasser. Mighty fine job on the build.
  8. Outstanding build and beautiful photography. The diorama setting is eye candy in itself, but that big Pete really sets it off.
  9. About a month ago I broke one of my hearing aids. Don't really need them that badly, but they are handy for watching TV. I used the box the VA sent them in 5 years ago, with the attached, preprinted return label. Waited about three weeks, called the VA in Salisbury, NC asking about them. Was told they were supposed to be sent to a facility in Denver and they were not at the Salisbury clinic. A couple days later the Tech called and told me they had been found in the mail room, he would repair them for me and return them. Today I received my left hearing aid, the right one was not in the package. When I called the VA I got a huge run-around (can you believe that ) and was told there was no way the hearing aids could have been sent to Salisbury, that the Tech would not have fixed them, and there was no way my other one was there. Final recommendation was to call the VA in Kernersville, NC (closest unit) and reschedule for another hearing teat and set of aids. Called K-Ville and was told the earliest appointment was August 20. However the person kept looking and found a cancellation at 1:30 today, it was 12:30 when I was talking to her and I live 45 miles away. I made the appointment and will be getting a new set of hearing aids July 3rd. Nothing but kudos for the lady in the K-Ville facility, and plenty of blah blah blah's for the arrogant response from Salisbury.
  10. Stopped by Hobby Lobby today, saw this knife and thought it may come in handy trimming around intricate decals.
  11. Just completed a trade with Sam I Am. Got exactly what I was promised. Excellent trading partner.
  12. Mighty sweet "Effie", really like the color combination.
  13. Going to be another fun and creative build to watch. Of course comparing a Porsche to a Meyers Manx is the ultimate of sacrilege, but then that is where the fun is. It is only plastic and you can build it.
  14. I am pretty sure this build has been completed and it is definitely one cool rat. There was a question about headers. A few years back in one of the magazines there was an article on building headers using paint brush ferrules. It was fairly simple, cut three or four pieces of solid copper wire or solder for outtubes , drill the ferrules for these, epoxy into place, finish and paint. Here is a picture of a set I built and yes you will notice they are a bit too long and do not clear the door. That would have been a simple fix to cut the ferrule shorter or to have used a shorter end tube.
  15. Paraphrasing a great literary work " Basements are the best of times and the worst of times". When my Dad built the house I now own he did not see any need to spend a lot of money on basement waterproofing. Over the years the weep tiles crumbled, filled with dirt, and one corner of the basement settled deeper than the others cracking the floor loose from the walls. Over the years the basement has flooded with every heavy rain. Most of my late 60's and early 70's 33 1/3 rock and roll albums were destroyed along with my 50's collection of baseball cards, luckily the majority of my models were stored in a closet upstairs. But I digress. Since moving back into the house and having some intensive renovations done I had the basement worked on. Now I have an inside weep tile system that dumps into a three stage sump pump system (with 12 volt battery backup) and a large enough dehydrator to keep the basement quite dry. When I rebuilt the shelves to store my models I put a sheet of 20 mil plastic between them and the walls just as an extra security. So far everything seems to be staying quite dry. I may purchase another smaller dehydrator to place in my model area just to ease my paranoid mind. All that being said, I am sorry to hear of your basement woes and know from where you speak. Keep the faith and things will get better.
  16. Is this before or after you finish the Nova? Hee, Hee.
  17. Always fun to watch someone dive into the cutting and creating of one-off builds. The imagination is a wonderful thing. Looking forward to updates.
  18. I love my 2010 Ranger Sport 2WD 4.0 V-6. However I could use a bit more pulling power. I stupidly bought a utility trailer that is a bit too much for the Ranger, although I do have another smaller frame that I may extend to the size I need and then sell the larger one. Anyway I stopped by my local Ford dealer a couple months back. They only had one Ranger on the lot 4 door 4WD ecoboost I-4 10 speed auto and the salesman told me price was $36+ with no discounts or rebates. To me the 10 speed is a catastrophe waiting to happen. I understand the thinking behind it, yet I had a 10-speed bicycle and was shifting constantly while riding up and down hills. I think the same will happen with the Ranger especially if pulling a small utility trailer. In the past I owned a 74 standard cab Datsun and a 78 King-cab Datsun, loved them both but wore the first one out, got married and needed a sedan for the second one. Since this picture was taken I have added a Slimline bed cover.
  19. Cool work on that windshield frame. Those are some precise bends and you got them right on.
  20. Someone must have been reading my mind when I bought mine and developed that one. I will have to try to find one of those. Thanks for posting it.
  21. I only have two or three holy grail kits: 62 Ford Galaxie, 63 Pontiac Bonneville/Catalina, and any of the Chevrolet Apache pick-ups ( preferably 58/59).
  22. A couple of ways I do this is 1. As you mentioned I used the Revell Street Burner '55 Chevy frame as a pattern to build a tube chassis for my Ford Escort pro-stock. I laid it on my work table marked the wheel base for the Escort beside that frame and began cutting tubes to match the new reduced wheelbase. 2. I acquired a scale drafting/engineer ruler many years ago. It is triangular shaped and has, I believe 6 different scales - two on each face. It takes a bit of getting used to and making sure you are using the correct edge, but it does the job. The only down side is the nearest scale for our purposes is 1/24. Hope this helps is some way.
  23. I have been taking three or four boxes full of kits to a local show/swap met every year for the past few years. I will usually sell an average eight to ten kits. Only problem is I have won a kit almost every year in their raffle and I will buy at least two or three more. It is a net loss of kits, but still a problem. Then Ollie's will get a bunch of kits or Hobby Lobby will have a markdown and I just have to restock my sale boxes. They have meetings every Tuesday evening at one of the local churches for people like us.
  24. Have you ever seen a Himalayan opossum? Him -a - laying across the yellow line and he's dead.
  25. I think you mean miscues.
