Chevy 3100
TarheelRick replied to crossfire 2004's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice pickup. That color really brings out the smooth lines of this old warhorse. I also see you did away with the blue-flame 6 for some more usable horsepower. Beautiful build, thanks for sharing. -
Beetle Bailey Jeep
TarheelRick replied to spencer1984's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looking really good. As all the rest I really enjoyed Beetle Bailey, so did my WWII vet father, he drove a Jeep among other vehicles. These older Jeeps were pretty simple all flat construction except for the hood. Looking forward to progress. -
Academy released a model of the Hyundai Azera, although it was the Korean version and has a slightly different grille treatment. It seems you cannot swing a dead cat without hitting a Hyundai Santa Fe or Sonata, or for that matter a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. The Academy Hyundai is a very respectable kit, I think they would so well to get deeper into the vehicle market, they are already pretty strong in sci-fi and aircraft/military. With the top two US makers cutting back on their sedans and focusing primarily on CUV's, SUV's, and other forms of V's, I am unsure as to which way the model companies should focus their efforts.

Did any stock flatheads, non-Ardun. have four exhausts pipes? I was just looking through a site which features the '29 Ford RPU used by Ralph Malph in Happy Days and it shows four exhaust pipes, but it also shows a flathead engine. https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0118-313114/1929-ford-hi-boy-roadster-pickup/ EDIT: I just looked at it again and upon closer inspection the headers are set off from the engine block with brackets and do not appear to be real exhaust at all. However the pipes are heat discolored as if they are used. Any thoughts on this?

Looks really good. I like these builds of cars we owned. Good luck with the rest of the build.

Johan Pro Street Rambler kit question
TarheelRick replied to USAC_1957's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks, the headers were scratchbuilt using solder and some plastic tubing for the collector. -
Cool Ranchero, overall nice save. Like those colors. Is it curbside or did you install an engine?
-
Excellent build, smooth paint and really like the way that top-chop flows. Beautiful!!

Johan Pro Street Rambler kit question
TarheelRick replied to USAC_1957's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This is a pretty nice kit, except for the plastic axles and the huge hole through the engine block with what looks like CV joints on the block sides. I also have one in work, a dual-quad BBC Street/Gasser. I need to rework the front axle, too much nosebleed as it is now. -
1953 Ford F100

Simply stunning build. Love those old Ford trucks. Your color choice is perfect. -
Very nice work on one of the back markers of NASCAR., Wondering about the exterior door handles, shouldn't they have been removed?

Drop toppin' a '49 Merc

The 50 Ford Convertible also has an uptop. Some of the reissue kits also have a Carson top or a Deville half-top and a chopped windshield. -
First car back after 18yrs - Harry Gant
TarheelRick replied to Seann Anderson's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Harry Gant is also one of my favorite drivers. Saw him race Late Models at Hickory Speedway, NC, a few years before he moved up the ladder. -
Many of these cars evolved on a weekly basis so whatever you decide to do is probably close to at least one rendition. You are doing some mighty fine work on this build, looking forward to updates.

Beautiful paint work. Candy can be a difficult paint to work with, but it seems you have mastered this one.
-
Outstanding detail painting, really like the way those wheels turned out. Keep those updates coming.

That interior is so sweet. Makes me drool all over my keypad. Really like the vinyl look on the seats.

Roll cage foam protection in scale
TarheelRick replied to Funkychiken's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree with Ace, split heat-shrink. However if you can remember to add it before gluing everything together, you can often find some small enough, or place it on some appropriate sized aluminum tubing, heat it then slide it off and put it on your roll bar tubes. -
One I have in work. The interior bucket is part Firefighter Mustang and Pontiac Firebird snap-kit Pro-Stock, the incomplete cage work and chassis are scratchbuilt. I will be using the Ford engine from the Firefighter kit. Having some issues with paint, so this one is back in the box until I can get my basement work area back together.

AMT Willys with the injected SBC from the Nomad kit. Scratchbuilt headers, home printed decals, and scratchbuilt trailer. Green tint windows are from some packaging material I had lying around.

This is a 1/32 '55 Chevy I threw together for a slump buster. I found the slicks, front axle, and blower in the scrap box. The headers, hairpins, ladder bars, injectors, Moon fuel tank, and driveshaft loops are scratchbuilt. I think I may need to put it back on the table and lower that front end a little.

Mystery chassis plate
TarheelRick replied to Sledsel's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not trying to be a smart---- but that could be from many different kits. To me many of those chassis looked alike, very little difference to indicate particular make and model of vehicle. -
