  1. Depending upon how basic you want to get with acrylics, the cheap bottles of acrylic "craft" paints in WalMart and other craft stores has a "pearl" available which can be mixed with their other colors to make a rather convincing finish. The pearl will lighten the base color a bit, but that can be overcome with more base color. I would show you a picture of one I painted this way, but it had an unfortunate mishap while wet-sanding and I have not got back to repainting it yet.
  2. Definitely a beautiful build of when NASCAR was all about racing, not corporate advertising. I like your attention to the detail of that period. Quick question, where did you come up with these pictures?
  3. Unfortunately you have picked the wrong hobby if this is your goal. LOL I have been at this hobby off and on for almost 60 years and still consider my self to be a "low intermediate". As has been said already, patience, patience, patience is one of the primary keys to a well-built model. No matter how hard you try some builds will kick you in the seat of the pants, lay them aside for awhile, then come back to them after you have completed something else. It may still be a bear, but if you continue to be persistent it will eventually come around, or wind up against the floor in a multitude of pieces. This forum is a plethora (I have always liked that word) of useful information, use it for your benefit and as Ace said, "Ask questions".
  4. I think it may be something more toxic than the water or whisky. Sounds more like a man-made substance from some basement "laboratory".
  5. Yeah, but if he is that stupid, would he have a box cutter in his pocket?
  6. What's he going to do if his buddy just laughs and walks away?
  7. Really like the looks of this build. Where did you get those tracks? I have a flat-bed in mind and really like the looks of those tracks.
  8. " Update on Issue #206 Itʻs September already (2018), and yes, still no new issue of Model Cars Magazine. Still doing the best I can at getting everything together, hopefully another couple of weeks and all the troubles are over. Thanks for staying with us!" It's December already (2018), just wondering about issue #206.
  9. Really love watching this build. My aunt owned one of these, it was a white 390 auto and was her last "hot rod". Her first was a black '61 390, 4 barrel, auto Starliner with dual factory exhaust. That is the one she used to take me to town in on Saturdays, after mowing Grandma's yard and earning some money; straight to the model stores. Her next was a black '64 Galaxie with the same engine transmission combination. Don't remember why, but sometime in the mid 70's she gave the Ford to her brother and bought a four-door Pontiac - guess she "grew up". Anyway, back to this build, you are doing some excellent detail work.
  10. I have a collection of wooden clothes pins that have been cut and sanded into different shapes on the ends according to what I need them for. Since outdoor clothes lines are few and far between these pins are getting harder to find, but their plastic counterpart can also be used. I also have a plastic coffee can screwed to the side of my homebuilt paint booth. I keep it full of wadded up paper towels and use it to spray my airbrush cleaner into between colors. One of the more common items is a food dehydrator which has been modified to serve our paint drying purposes.
  11. Those old Monogram hot rod kits were the bomb and they still are. You did an excellent job with this one.
  12. Some very interesting plastic surgery, would love to see some updates.
  13. On my looonnnggg list of "things to build" is a '63 Vette with a detailed chassis. With that build in mind I have acquired a Revell '67 Roadster just for the chassis. Initial tests seems to be a fairly simple swap, although there will be some cutting and fitting. For all those Pontiacs mentioned many will work on the AMT '61 Catalina chassis and the Fords work well with the AMT '61 Starliner chassis; of course then you have a whole bunch of bodies laying around in the way. All this being said, I grew up with the "promo" chassis kits, so I have an ample supply of flat black spray paint. Most of my stuff is for me to look at and I do not really worry too much about the chassis.
  14. Really like the way the pearl offset the plain white. I believe once you get that green body in place the green tint will become more obvious. Keep those updates coming.
  15. One word of caution is to wear a dust mask while doing any sanding, since resin dust is not really compatible with lung tissue. Also you will need to use some form of CA glue rather than normal styrene glue.
  16. Really nice looking restoration. I am amazed the putty has held up that well.
  17. I have looked through all the resin casters I have in my favorites file and cannot find the tires I am looking for. I know they exist because I have seen them somewhere. Looking for Goodyear Suburbanite mud/snow tires, the bias-ply style from the 50's & 60's. Also need some open wheels to fit these with a 4X4 front hub. Anyone have any suggestions? Also have in mind to convert the Revell Ford F-250 truck into a 4X4 dually, but need older style wheels, again 50's-60's. I have an idea for the 4X4 conversion kit, but then again the wheels and tires are an issue. Any help will be appreciated.
  18. Simply an awesome piece of work. Everything about this build just screams perfection. Great job.
  19. I realize many do not frequent Michael's for kit-buying. However they will occasionally have an older kit I am looking for and they do have a 40% coupon when using their phone app. Over the past few days I have been in two different Michael's and their kit shelf is completely bare. Both stores had only three car kits and maybe one or two airplane kits, plus the shelf space has been drastically reduced. I have bought several pilfered kits at reduced prices from one of the local Michael's stores. I am beginning to wonder if maybe they are going to quit models altogether? Anyone heard anything?
  20. I have picked up a few from Hobby Lobby, they will put them on sale for 50% off quite regularly. Their selection is very good.
  21. Just completed a great trade with Larry Ray, very satisfied. Quick shipping and excellent correspondence.
  22. Really appreciate these photos, I have saved several to my LSR file. Speedweeks is on my bucket list, but will probably never materialize.
  23. Very well built 57 Vert; and it is not the typical red that so many are. Nice color choices.
  24. Really good looking weathering and as said the six-cylinder is a different addition. Kind of concerned about the exhaust dumping directly on the rear tire; the heat might change the air pressure and affect handling.
  25. Driving across the backyard to unload a couple bags of playground sand is considered off-roading to many people; and of course you need a lifted, 1-ton, diesel, dually for that. Now back to this electric truck. I am sure they have some kind of seal around the electric motors, but one on each wheel and a 36" fording depth just seems to spell disaster. I have found very few electric motors that work very well when submerged.
