Outstanding work. Really like the stucco look on the building walls, and that El Camino definitely needs a bit of TLC.

Beautiful work on that Fairlane, has the look of the real thing. The Wood Brothers have always been one of my favorite race teams, ever since I saw Glenn drive a modified at Bowman Gray Stadium (yes, I am that old).

Wow, you are a real licensed plastic surgeon. That is some intricate work you are accomplishing. Really like the overall look. You mentioned not liking the look of the rear fenders, to me they look a bit long behind the wheel openings. Of course that look may be exaggerated by the fact the bed has been shortened. Anyway, whatever you decide to do with it is going to look good. Keep on doing what you are doing

Great idea and that is one beautiful Ranger.

'34 Ford pickup street rod
TarheelRick replied to Can-Con's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful hot rod. That paint combination really sets it off. Leaving the light bar off makes it look like a completely different truck. -
Absolutely one of the best Mustang builds I have ever seen. The paint and overall finish is superb. Quick story - I knew a guy who owned one just like this one, totally rebuilt on a rotisserie, lots of dollars expended. The local Ford club was returning from a show, he was between two other Mustangs, a deer ran out and creamed the right side fender. Needless to say he was not very happy. However he whipped out his wallet and got the parts and had it fixed.

Revell Ford GT Le Mans, 2016 GTE Pro Winner
TarheelRick replied to Jhedir6's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The original Ford GT was IMHO one of the most beautiful cars ever built - it was sexy, powerful, and just exuded performance. Now this one comes along and shatters that opinion.. Looking forward to your build of this gorgeous beast. Those are some really nice, crisp separation lines on the paint. -
I agree with Andy. It does work, but not as well as the old standby purple stuff. But it is cheaper and readily available at many corner convenience stores.

Barris '70 Impala (finished interior 16th December)
TarheelRick replied to geetee66's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I got to buy some stock in Tamiya tape company if you continue to build such beautiful artwork. I have seen similar work in shows and am completely in awe of the intricacy and beauty of this type paint job. You did one fine job, sir. -
Ruler, right angle suggestions
TarheelRick replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mine is a Carl RT-200, it has a 12" cut. I have had it for seven or eight years, used it primarily for paper cutting early on, but have been using it on the model bench for the past two or three years. -
Super build of one of the ugliest cars ever produced, right up there with the Pontiac Aztec.

This is one sweet Monza, and as has been mentioned your attention to detail is phenomenal. For the wiper squeeges how about some .010 styrene sanded to fit?

Ruler, right angle suggestions
TarheelRick replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I also use one of the rotary paper cutters. Just bought two new blades for mine - one full cut and the other a scoring blade. I have a T-square, but do not use it very much, it is rather long and bulky. -
1958 Ford Thunderbird - Billy F. Gibbons´ Mexican Blackbird
TarheelRick replied to Koellefornia Kid's topic in Model Cars
It may have fought you, but in the end you defeated it. Beautiful rendition, really nice build. -
57 T-Bird "BattleBird" "update 12-25-injectors"
TarheelRick replied to Ralph Henderson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have also been a fan of this particular T-Bird, it is in my file of "Want to Builds". You are doing some excellent fabrication work. Looking forward to more updates. -
Post retirement modeling
TarheelRick replied to misterNNL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am quickly approaching 70. Have been semi-retired since 2012. I retired from the USAF 29 years ago today (woo-hoo), so I have that piddly pension. Bounced around for a few years in public work before getting the call into ministry. Church politics got the upper hand so I walked away from it in 2012. Now I drive a school bus and am tentatively planning on retiring from that after the 2020 graduation class. Right now I am in a building slump. I have three active builds on the bench, and about 8-10 more in boxes on the shelf, plus around 200 more waiting their turn. As most of you have stated I continue to buy, knowing I will not live past 165 to be able to build them. There are no kids to leave them to, I am the final one in my family tree. Have been trying to downsize the collection, while at the same time am planning on expanding my work area. Right now I am using a corner of the basement, but my lay-out is less than ideal. I am having some work done in the basement to alleviate water seepage during heavy rains and that will require me to dismantle the area I am now using, which is a perfect excuse for rearrangement of the work space. Hoping that will motivate me into getting back to the bench. Of course the honey-do list continues to grow exponentially as I get closer to full retirement. -
Flipnose Hinge Tutorial: Gassers, Altereds, etc
TarheelRick replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Really nice work, great idea. However I don't believe that would work on a full-fendered car unless the fenders were cut at an angle. Any ideas on how to hinge one like that, without having to cut at an angle? -
Saw this one in the Museum of American History in DC. I am pretty sure the color is partially due to lighting around the display, but I don't believe a black car would reflect that much of a purple hue.

X2 Everything about this build really looks sweet. That fuel-injected mill looks right in place, and your paint work is outstanding.

Paint Question Krylon and Duplicolor
TarheelRick replied to moparfarmer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not sure about the compatibility of the three different kinds of paints, but I would suggest trying the combination on a plastic spoon or a piece of leftover sprue to see how it will work. -
1941 Lincoln Phantom Fastback Wild Custom
TarheelRick replied to Koellefornia Kid's topic in Model Cars
That could have easily been built in a late 50's-early 60's back-street body shop by someone wanting to make their name in the full custom world. The overall design fits that era of customs very well. Excellent work. One question, have you sectioned the hood? It appears to be thinner than the one on my plastic bag kit. -
Recommended Handle for #11 blades
TarheelRick replied to Bernard Kron's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have one similar to that, except mine has a much smaller blade. I thought it may be good for trimming around decals, but have not been able to get sufficient control yet. -
Not the accordion pleat but the helical style. I know they were notorious for the seams filling with dirt and water then rusting; but it was much cheaper than getting real pipe and bending it.

Really nice build. The Mustang taillights add a different but personal touch.
