'AMT' Custom EconolineTarheelRick replied to Mattblack's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial Groovy. Looks right out of the 70's. Simple custom look, not overly done. Almost bought a Ford van in '72, but settled for a C-10 Chevy pickup.

My take on the amt bulldozerTarheelRick replied to blazefox's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment Beautiful work. Really like that mud dripping off the blade.

1974 Chevy Corvette......my one and only for '18.TarheelRick replied to MrObsessive's topic in Model Cars Not much for Vettes, except the first gen Stingrays 63-67, but this one is a real beauty. I may have to reconsider using the ones in my stash for trading fodder and actually try building one. Of course, it will be nowhere close to the exceptional work seen here.

I suffer from CSBM too!TarheelRick replied to drag racer 15's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) I am in the process of having work done in my basement. Just so happens it is the corner I have designated my work area. I have had to move all my unbuilts to another location in the basement. I thought they were impressive one-deep on the shelves, they are intimidating stacked on a table. I believe my wife is going shopping with one of her friends one day this week, when she does I will go in the opposite direction to Ollie's, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, A.C. Moore to browse through what they have. It IS an addiction.

A couple of months ago I noticed every time the wife and I went into a restaurant or went shopping my phone would come up with a message "How did you enjoy your....? I went to my local Veri- - - store and talked with the technician about this. He turned off my Google maps and at least this form of invasion has stopped. Glad to hear about the rewards card tracking. I probably knew about that, but it had resigned to the recesses of my mind. It appears "1984" is here, only 35 years later.

organizing partsTarheelRick replied to John Pol's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) I have a few of the storage drawer units (a little bigger than shoeboxes, two drawers, some larger, some smaller), these I use for bigger parts and glue-bomb bodies. Then I have several of the flat boxes with internal dividers, which I use for wheels, tires, and other small parts. I am in the process of rebuilding my model work area, so I hope to be able to better organize my "organization" of parts. Oh yeah, I also have one three drawer roll around cart which I keep WIP's in.

Really enjoy watching the work you are doing on this one, very creative. One thing that does bother me though, is the windshield opening appears to be rather top heavy. Meaning the opening has too much roof above the top of the windshield. Maybe that is the way you have designed it. Just my thoughts, keep those updates coming.

WOW, those are definitely some beautiful builds. You have been busy. Love the many different styles - drag, custom, street; all very well represented.

Santa was pretty good to me. I wasn't even expecting a lump of coal. Got some good reading/reference material, a couple sets of "duallys" from Modelhaus to build a couple of haulers, and a Dremel to replace/supplement the weakening Black & Decker I have had for 30+ years.

Metallic paintTarheelRick replied to Wm David Green's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers Depending upon how basic you want to get with acrylics, the cheap bottles of acrylic "craft" paints in WalMart and other craft stores has a "pearl" available which can be mixed with their other colors to make a rather convincing finish. The pearl will lighten the base color a bit, but that can be overcome with more base color. I would show you a picture of one I painted this way, but it had an unfortunate mishap while wet-sanding and I have not got back to repainting it yet.

General Modeling Advice?TarheelRick replied to greg133's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers Unfortunately you have picked the wrong hobby if this is your goal. LOL I have been at this hobby off and on for almost 60 years and still consider my self to be a "low intermediate". As has been said already, patience, patience, patience is one of the primary keys to a well-built model. No matter how hard you try some builds will kick you in the seat of the pants, lay them aside for awhile, then come back to them after you have completed something else. It may still be a bear, but if you continue to be persistent it will eventually come around, or wind up against the floor in a multitude of pieces. This forum is a plethora (I have always liked that word) of useful information, use it for your benefit and as Ace said, "Ask questions".

I think it may be something more toxic than the water or whisky. Sounds more like a man-made substance from some basement "laboratory".

When you've got REALLY nothing to do...........TarheelRick replied to MrObsessive's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge Yeah, but if he is that stupid, would he have a box cutter in his pocket?

" Update on Issue #206 Itʻs September already (2018), and yes, still no new issue of Model Cars Magazine. Still doing the best I can at getting everything together, hopefully another couple of weeks and all the troubles are over. Thanks for staying with us!" It's December already (2018), just wondering about issue #206.

Really love watching this build. My aunt owned one of these, it was a white 390 auto and was her last "hot rod". Her first was a black '61 390, 4 barrel, auto Starliner with dual factory exhaust. That is the one she used to take me to town in on Saturdays, after mowing Grandma's yard and earning some money; straight to the model stores. Her next was a black '64 Galaxie with the same engine transmission combination. Don't remember why, but sometime in the mid 70's she gave the Ford to her brother and bought a four-door Pontiac - guess she "grew up". Anyway, back to this build, you are doing some excellent detail work.

Using discarded household items in modelingTarheelRick replied to Greg Myers's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials I have a collection of wooden clothes pins that have been cut and sanded into different shapes on the ends according to what I need them for. Since outdoor clothes lines are few and far between these pins are getting harder to find, but their plastic counterpart can also be used. I also have a plastic coffee can screwed to the side of my homebuilt paint booth. I keep it full of wadded up paper towels and use it to spray my airbrush cleaner into between colors. One of the more common items is a food dehydrator which has been modified to serve our paint drying purposes.

Those old Monogram hot rod kits were the bomb and they still are. You did an excellent job with this one.

Some very interesting plastic surgery, would love to see some updates.

Promo style chassisesTarheelRick replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) On my looonnnggg list of "things to build" is a '63 Vette with a detailed chassis. With that build in mind I have acquired a Revell '67 Roadster just for the chassis. Initial tests seems to be a fairly simple swap, although there will be some cutting and fitting. For all those Pontiacs mentioned many will work on the AMT '61 Catalina chassis and the Fords work well with the AMT '61 Starliner chassis; of course then you have a whole bunch of bodies laying around in the way. All this being said, I grew up with the "promo" chassis kits, so I have an ample supply of flat black spray paint. Most of my stuff is for me to look at and I do not really worry too much about the chassis.

Really like the way the pearl offset the plain white. I believe once you get that green body in place the green tint will become more obvious. Keep those updates coming.

First time resin userTarheelRick replied to suprafastcelica's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed One word of caution is to wear a dust mask while doing any sanding, since resin dust is not really compatible with lung tissue. Also you will need to use some form of CA glue rather than normal styrene glue.

Really nice looking restoration. I am amazed the putty has held up that well.
