round 2 66 nova problemsTarheelRick replied to bauercrew's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers Not sure I completely understand your painting sequence. Do you primer the kit, then add the sealer, then another primer coat prior to color coats? If so, what keeps the first coat of primer from crazing the plastic?

Excellent build of a beautiful yacht. The wheels really set off that color. I like it.

Very good looking build, really like the looks of the engine. That being said, I just cannot get used to a V-6 in a Ford GT. It really should have a 5.0 or better, IMHO.

Need I.D. of car in photoTarheelRick replied to SfanGoch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) It may be a Chrysler product, but it looks more like a mid 70's Chevrolet Impala to me. I can't see the parking/signal lights over the headlights in the photo. It appears as if the hood may be a bit ajar.

Great product for replicating Vinyl tops!!!TarheelRick replied to cruz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials Yes, I will paint the areas first, but I have never experienced any thin spots.

That is a beautiful Ford (redundant statement - all Fords are beautiful, well maybe there are a few Mustangs from the 70's) anyway, you did an outstanding job with this one. Must have been some tedious decal work. Love it.

Great product for replicating Vinyl tops!!!TarheelRick replied to cruz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials This spray adhesive may make a convincing vinyl top, but it also works well for flocking interiors. All you have to do is mask off the area you want to flock, spray with a light coat of adhesive, then sprinkle the flock. Once you get a good thick layer in place gently go over it with your fingertip pressing it into place. Let it set for a few minutes then dump off the excess flocking. I've found this works better than diluted Elmer's, because it gives a more even undercoat and holds better.

California Ain't What It Used To BeTarheelRick replied to regular guy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge This is not only happening in California. I was born in NC a Tarheel, raised a Tarheel and will die a Tarheel. However, what used to be a beautiful state is slowly turning ugly. Our major city, Charlotte (home of the NFL Panthers), has been nicknamed the "Queen City" for many years, unfortunately it is quickly becoming a real "queen" city. We, as a state, have lost our values and are cowtowing to the demands of a very small minority view. The once beautiful mountains are being destroyed by the affluent buying property and building "summer homes" along the ridgelines, ruining pristine mountain vistas. Most of our cities with larger populations report at least one murder on every daily newscast. Yet I will stay here, because I really have not found anything better. Throughout my USAF career I lived in several different states, the only other one which could possibly attract me away from North Carolina would be Missouri.

Wow, this is becoming one beautiful build. Looking at all that detail, I think I will stick to original AMT kits . Keep those updates coming.

Cool save. Good job on the restoration.

chevy shop truckTarheelRick replied to fivesuns's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial Very cool looking shop truck. As far as the door handles, just drill a couple of small holes at the rear of the indentation and stick some wire with a loop on the end into them. Several of these older trucks had their handles removed because they did not work correctly and the driver simply hooked a piece of stiff wire to the inner workings and ran it through the hole in the door. Or you could also leave the windows down and open the door using the inside handle.

Several years ago I decided to strip the coating off a Coca-Cola can so I could use the aluminum. You all know the outcome. That was when I decided to read the side of the container, lo and behold, it says not to use on metal. BTW, that is one cool Tudor you are building.

My understanding of the original question is the builder intends to shoot clear on bare plastic. Will the clears mentioned have any negative interaction with bare plastic? Years ago I shot some clear on an unpainted body and it bubbled very badly.

I have a real desire to see a '63 Pontiac Catalina or Bonneville 421 Super Duty and maybe a 64/65 Olds F-85. Both were original annual kits and I imagine the tools have been modified (the 63 into a 64) and I believe the Olds was turned into a topless funny car. Still would like to see them resurrected.

The universe is an infinite entity and therefore will never be understood. What we are seeing is in our neighborhood and that is about all we will ever see. There is always going to be something beyond anything discovered by our feeble methods.

So, to re-ask the initial question, "How can a title be edited"? If I have a trade or wanted post that has been completed, how do I annotate "Found" in the title?

Monster of a truckTarheelRick replied to Sam I Am's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) Maybe you could put some diesel in the tank and see if it will crank. Definitely going to take an oversized display case to keep the dust off. Very nice looking build, however.

Really glad this build was brought back up. It is just so cool retro 60's custom. That particular shade of purple is one of my favorite colors in purple; it is subtle, but at the same time in your face. Very nice overall build.

My next kitTarheelRick replied to DaveP's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial Not being able to see this in 3D, it looks like the registration of the locating pins may be a bit off kilter. I would suggest placing a piece of 600 grit sandpaper on a really flat surface (a piece of glass would work) then carefully sanding the locating pins off. It may also help to put a VERY light bevel along the outer edges of the hull pieces so you can putty the seam once you get the hull glued together.

Square body/73-87 ChevyTarheelRick replied to U_ser_ID's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial Your plan sounds like a good one. Have you considered removing the door handles? That would really clean up the sides. As far as the vent windows I think I would remove them, it is a subtle change that would make a world of difference to the overall smooth look. People would notice it, but not necessarily recognize what had been done; scratching their heads trying to figure it out.
