  1. I was thinking of the same thing for the Lindberg Mercedes Roadster, so I will be watching what you do with this one. Like what you have done so far.
  2. I have two of the convertible kits and two hardtop kits, all Lindberg, plus I have picked up a couple of plastic bags of parts at swap meets and have a Resin 4-door from Star. These kits are very well detailed and fun to build, at least the two I have in work right now are fun. The fenderless one is going to be a short track modified. The red one is for my wife, she has always wanted a red convertible. However it is in its fourth or fifth paint job. The first try came out very respectable, just a couple of dust specks. When I decided to clear it I found a can of "clear pearl" so decided to use that, it turned the car a god-awful pink, haven't been able to get a decent paint job since.
  3. Not really a car, but saw this cruising the mountains in western NC.
  4. Have been following this build closely and really like the work you have put into it. I have not seen any mention of which engine you are using.
  5. Really enjoyed looking this build over. Excellent detail work especially around the hood vents (both outside and inside). Also very nice crisp work on those wheels, that style gives me a fit.
  6. No problem there, you started with a sinister looking beast. Very well built model. I like it.
  7. Very interesting rig, who built it?. For some reason I keep thinking Isetta.
  8. Those are two mighty fine looking street rods. Especially like the sedan color scheme. Two thumbs up.
  9. Good looking Ranchero, really like the Shelby relationship. I also have a couple of these and some various parts of others in my stash, plans for all of them some of these days.
  10. Another large beauty that is often overlooked is the B-36 Peacemaker. As an aside Strategic Air Command's motto "Peace is our Profession......war is just a Hobby" There is one of these on display inside the museum at Wright Patterson, very impressively large.
  11. Fantastic detail work. Love the whole build on this one. I do have one question: Where do the 'A' pillars connect to the chassis/body? It seems without some connection that roof would rip off on a 200 mph pass.
  12. Must have been a "concept" car. I noticed that in last week's ad also.
  13. When I worked it , the five stars were not on it, maybe two or possibly three. Had the chance to speak with him on a bus ride around the base from housing to the flightline. At that time I was a Buck Sergeant and he was a Captain. He saw North Carolina on my hat and struck up a conversation; I think he was from around the Burlington area.
  14. The difference between a fairy tale and a war story is the fairy tale begins "Once upon a time", and the war story begins "No BLAH this really happened". There is a war story of a B-52 doing a barrel roll over Viet Nam in order to miss a SAM. It purportedly made the return trip to Guam where it was disassembled, put on a ship and returned to the states. I am not trying to say this video is a war story, just taking the opportunity to share this "war story". And I have spent several hours crawling all over the KC-135 fixing radios/communications equipment, also got a hop on one to Hawaii. It and I was heading to Korea, but the crew bumped everyone off in Hawaii.
  15. Very fine looking model. AS the others have said, it does look period perfect. You did some really nice body work on those fenders to remove the spare-tire well.
  16. Looking back through this thread I saw the picture of the "Purple Hornies" header mufflers. I put a pair on my '72 C-10 Chevy pickup, connected to a set of Cyclone headers off the 350 engine. They lasted just over two days, I could not hear my AM radio and the gas tank behind the driver's seat vibrated uncontrollably. Replaced with a set of Thrush glasspacks with the exhaust running out in front of the rear tires. Another hot set up in the early to mid 60's was '55 GMC truck mufflers, fairly cheap and had a nice 'legal' rumble. Of course they were on the large side and if you were a bit low and there were any high manhole covers, then they wound up laying on the street. Just an old man rambling.
  17. Almost forgot this one. Just plumb nasty, the AC-130 Spectre.
  18. Very biased on my picks. The C-130 Hercules is the first aircraft I worked on in the USAF and the F-4 (different variations F-4D, F-4E, RF-4C) was the one I worked on the most. Love those two warbirds. And I did work on this particular F-4D when I was in Thailand.
  19. R.I.P Mr Mustang, got to love your vision. I read his book many years ago. One quote (paraphrased) has stuck with me, "US universities graduate 10 lawyers for every 1 engineer. Japanese universities graduate 10 engineers for every 1 lawyer. Do you see the problem?"
  20. Some I would like to have, but will probably abstain from buying them. Just noticed another $2.00 price increase. I guess the model companies do not realize a large majority of their customers are red, white, and blue card-carrying old folks, with a limited budget. My retirement checks or Social Security check has not seen an appreciable increase in years, but kit prices have been steadily increasing. Rant over.
  21. Thanks for the offer. I have those and the ones from the original '58 T-Bird kit. Just not sure if they will fit the panels of the extended '61 Ford. I may even attempt to tape it up and do my own, depends on how I am feeling when it comes time to paint.
  22. Still up in the air over color, I have two or three nail polishes set aside. Have also thought of pearl-white with scallops, but I cannot find anyone who makes masks for scallops. There used to be a company that made flame masks and I think they also offered scallops, but I cannot find them. The interior will either be a leather color to complement the exterior paint, or a white with the seat and door panels the body color. Also trying to decide if it is worth the extra work to make the bubble top functional, it is on the '58 T-Bird. If I do go that route I will be putting "lift" cylinders mounted between the back seat and the sidewall. Big problem is that is going to be a lot of work and I have a bunch of stuff I need to get done before next Friday. I will be going in for surgery to get some of my neck bones fused together and will be out of commission around the house for a couple of months. Will also probably miss the CKM show.
  23. Finally got a little bit of bench time, the temps have been above 90 and the humidity is twice that. Did a bunch of sanding, sprayed some sealer/primer, and noticed a few areas that will need some work. I am scratchbuilding the interior around the custom seats from the AMT '57 Ford Fairlane. Still have a bunch to do, trying to sort of match the sidewalls with the seat pattern.
  24. Stopped by Hobby Lobby yesterday and there were several gaps in their display, but none on markdown. Guess someone beat me to it. Did find the Porsche Diesel Tractor hiding behind a 65 Riviera kit, it is now in my collection.
  25. Both these bring back some great memories. I saw the "Dew" car in Junior Johnson's shop. Back then it was only 12 miles from my home, I got to go there a couple of times to look around. When I joined the USAF in '68 I flew on Piedmont Airlines to Atlanta on my way to Lackland AFB for basic training. I also flew Piedmont a couple times after that, they were headquartered in Winston-Salem which is 35 miles from my home. Two very nice builds. Thanks for sharing them.
