Nothing wrong with this build, I would drive it. Very nice color combo and clean engine compartment.

Ollie's strike again
TarheelRick replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just heard a rumor there is going to be an Ollie's opening in a former grocery store near me. There is one around 25 miles away, but this one will be only 8 miles away and is in the town where I do most of my shopping. Plus it is in the same strip mall as Harbor Freight, O'Reilleys, and my bank (oops). -
Very well built Galaxie, that color really sets off those beautiful body lines.

Nother dirt tracker
TarheelRick replied to Vettegasser's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Looks right to me, love those short track racers. Everything about this type build is open to the imagination of the builder. -
Interesting build. There is a lot of money on the hood of that Gremlin.

Very nice looking Nova. Very well represents the low-buck racer entry that was not factory sponsored. Really like those wheels and tires.

Sitting on my porch drinking coffee and enjoying the break of dawn when I got a phone text from my bank asking if I had made a purchase from GREATTOYGLOBALMARKETP on my Visa card. I called the number they gave me and was told someone had made a purchase for that amount this morning. I have been awake for just more than an hour and have not been on my computer, nor have I ever heard of this company. So, as of now that particular credit card is blocked and a new one will be sent to me. This is the second time in the past 12 months this card has been defrauded. I really need to determine where the 'leak' is and get it plugged. Guess I will be spending some time at the bank this morning getting this straightened out.

Worked in the basement a good part of the day assembling my new aerator/spreader. Got it all together with no left over parts and no cuts or abrasions on my body. Did have to take the aerator blade section apart and reassemble it because I used the wrong size washer. Now I need to purchase some fertilizer and grass seed so I can start trying to get my lawn to grow something other than clover, dandelions, and assorted weeds.

Who all knows of the Chicago Cutlass?
TarheelRick replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nothing a little bit of screen wire and bondo can't fix; maybe a roll or two of duct tape. -
Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!
TarheelRick replied to Belairconvertable's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is an ambitious project I started a few months back. It has been on the back burner because my basement is a bit cold to work in. This is the inspiration for the build: And this is where I am: Using AMT 53 Ford cabs, Lindberg F-150 chassis, bed, and engine. Wheels are Aoshima and the tires are from a company in Ukraine. Having trouble getting the bow out of the roof. I have tried adding sheet plastic in layers, but it still sinks in the middle. I think I may cut it out just above the window openings and try adding the roof from an UltraNomad kit (if I can find the roof). -
A little big project

Absolutely amazing build, especially in such a small scale. Looking forward to the finished diorama. -
Best clear material for large flat windows?
TarheelRick replied to crowe-t's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Just throwing this out for consideration. Would the clear packaging materials used for food containers work? Are they stiff enough for this project? I quite often buy salad greens (lettuces, etc.) is a clear plastic container which should supply sufficient material for the glass needed. -
My first car was a '56 Chevy 210, 6-hole three on the tree. I like the direction you are going with this build. Haven't tried but one weathered build and it came out fairly close to what I was after. As the others have said, approach with caution, because it is easy to go overboard. Keep the updates coming, looking forward to how this one comes out.

Now that is an awesome comparison. About the only thing restorable on that original car is the driver's door handle and the VIN plate. The 'restored' version is a beautiful piece of work.

Looking like a pretty healthy Gasser to me. Especially like that decal in the rear window. You have done some excellent work with this build.

Grandpa's Soxs and Martin Cuda Glue Bomb
TarheelRick replied to FoMoCo66's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Unfortunately, this is one area where it is not advisable to skimp on tape. Tamiya tape is undoubtedly the best on the market to prevent bleeding. That being said, although it may be too late at this point, is to spray the area along the edge of the tape with clear, or if doing a two tone spray another light coat of the first color along the tape edge. That seals the edge of the tape and helps prevent bleed through. Nice looking build, Sox & Martin were, and still are, my favorite all-time drag team. -

I know this is an "irk" post, but when I went to the mirror resurfacing website I saw this statement, "The actual silver part is a thin layer of elemental silver, which is what causes your mirror to reflect properly! When this wears down, your mirror won't reflect as well as it used to." Now I know this happens because I have a couple of older mirrors. However what struck me was the idea of some Hollyweird superstar looking into their mirror and deciding they have looked at their beauty so much it wore out their mirror.

Very nice conversion/scratchbuilding.
