75 Chevy van custom
TarheelRick replied to Limeyglue's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is some excellent paint work and masking skills. Looking forward to more. -
C2 Corvette Kit question
TarheelRick replied to TarheelRick's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Seems as if the Monogram is it, the chrome trees are exactly like the ones I have; only missing a couple of small pieces off the larger one. Thanks for the clarification. -
Which C2 Corvette kit was molded in red? I have just found a chrome parts tree with a set of Vector rims with spinners and they are molded in red. The tree also has a nice set of valve covers and the air cleaner with distributor cover.

Reminds me of when I was stationed in Oklahoma in 1988. A friend's wife went out one especially, brutally cold morning just to find her windshield had a thin sheet of ice on it. Rather than crank the car and let the defroster do its stuff, she went back inside and got a small ball-peen hammer. Do I need to continue the story?

Really nice looking Gasser. Just goes to show that box-art and instructions are simply suggestions. It definitely is a "cherry" bomb.

Really nice rendition of an S&M Duster, especially for a 30 year old build. Wish I had kept my 30 year olds builds.

Sometimes the decal sheets will recommend colors. My Slixx sheet for Hubert Platt's '69 Mustang gives recommendations for color, but doesn't specify any particular brand paint or paint number. I have had other sheets that will specify a ModelMaster/Tamiya or some other color by number. Hope this helps a little bit.

I am about 30 miles west of Winston-Salem. A post office called Hamptonville, in the intersection of US 421 and I-77.

If you weren't I would wonder what kind of Dad you would be. Looks to be an interesting build. I saw a terrarium diorama at a show a few years back with 1/25 scale vehicles in it, pretty intricate work.

School bus yellow
TarheelRick replied to Karl LaFong's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not sure if you want to gloss coat it, most school buses are a bit semi-gloss. What are you building for this color paint? -
That is a hood full of motivation. Like the way this one came out, sometimes its best just to let them ride the way they are.

Going to be a fine looking 57. The 57 Chevy makes a great stock, street machine, SS/Jr Stock drag car, Gasser, Short track racer, and full custom, not much you can't do with this kit. All that being said I still prefer the '56 (my first car).

Ditto to what they said. That is some beautiful detail work in the engine bay and on the chassis.

AMT 1955 Chevrolet Cameo

"The song is now stuck in my head", I can't unsee it either. What would be the fix, lowering the front or raising the rear? -
Shelby Cobra Daytona
TarheelRick replied to 2whl's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
IMHO this car and the Lola GT are two of the most beautiful automobiles ever built. I am really enjoying watching this kit come together with your skillful touch. A strange thought came to my mind when looking at the suspension pictures: a car with this much sophistication and technology is using a buggy spring suspension. I guess what goes around comes around. -
Looks to be a short track monster when finished. I like what you are doing with this kit.

How do I spray these details?
TarheelRick replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
From those pictures it appears as if the paint may be a bit too thin. Of course there is nothing you can do about that with a spray can except maybe buy another can and see if that makes any difference. As the others have said the best results are achieved with an airbrush. -
Very nice looking MOPAR, I really miss those days of SS racing. Smooth black paint, not really easy to do, but you nailed it.
-
Very imaginative concept. I really like the suicide doors, hood, & trunk lid. I have been trying to figure a way to hinge the hood on my 57 300C custom, and you have effectively solved that problem for me - thanks.

Identification request
TarheelRick replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have a good friend who built a 65 Mustang fastback from parts - two different bodies, etc. His daughter was 14 and began talking to him about letting her have the Mustang when she turned 16. I asked him if he would. His reply, " He** no, I am going to get her something that will protect her, a late model Mustang." This guy is a mechanic with the NCDOT and is pretty proficient with cars. -

Guess those truck brakes worked better than expected.
