Watching this build, I am a gasser fan. Looking at that last picture, it appears both the front and rear axles are not centered in the wheelwells. Of course it could just be the perspective of the photo.

X-Acto makes different size handles, I have two or three different ones.

Ollie's strike again
TarheelRick replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bit the bullet and went down to my local Ollie's. They had a selection of the Monogram Tri-5's (56, 57, & 57 Nomad), some AMT Avantis, Fairlane stockers, Chevy II funny cars, and an assortment of some other stuff; lots of Dodge Slammers, Speedracers, and 1/32 Black Beautys. I did pick up a couple of the Mail Trucks, with discount I got them for $14.99 apiece. The store was a bit crowded, but most of the people were courteous and would step aside in the aisles to let you pass. Also picked up a pack of Golden Oreos. It's about time to grab some recliner time in front of the television and do the Oreos some damage. -
Yesterday's weather was pretty nice, mid 50's, no wind, and plenty of sunshine. So, my fishing partner and I decided to hit the lake for a bit of relaxation. Didn't catch anything worth keeping but had fun. On the way back down the lake to the loading dock an alarm went off on my boat, I didn't even know it had an alarm. The tach immediately dropped to 0 rpm, but the engine kept running. The lake was pretty smooth but a couple minutes later the boat felt like it was beginning to 'porpoise', so I backed down the throttle, a couple minutes later it began the same, so I backed off the throttle some more. By the time we got within sight of the loading dock we were barely moving, and within 100 yards of the dock the engine quit completely. Luckily, I had a good charge on my trolling motor and we used that to get to the dock and get loaded. One time before I could not get the engine to more than 4000 rpm, when I took it to the dealer they, of course, could not duplicate the problem; however, when I got it back it worked fine. I am a bit hesitant to take it back to them, but they are the ones who hold the warranty, so I will have to hope they will take the problem seriously.

40 Ford Pickup
TarheelRick replied to OldTrucker's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice looking '40 pickup, Those doors fit very nicely, they can be a real bear to fit properly. -
That is a beautiful Boss, Should have been a factory color, fits that body style very well.

Nice looking '34, would like to see more photos. Is this an original issue kit?
-
Will definitely be watching this one, I love those gassers. What are your plans for a noise maker?

Looks really good, especially like the color. I have never built one of these although I do have three in my stash. Something about trying to get the chassis together straight intimidates me.

You could roll that one across Barrett-Jackson and bring home a bundle. Excellent build, everything about it just looks right: color choice, foil work, and your subtle custom touches to the kit. Really like this build.

"Best" is a subjective term. Amt has a "49 Club Coupe, it has two complete engines, one being a flathead, and several nice custom parts. Lindberg has a '53 Victoria Coupe, it also has a flathead, but can be built basically stock. There are no sedans available in kit form in the 49-54 range. You might be able to find a resin sedan body; Steve Kohler makes a really nice '53 Ford sedan body in resin and I believe I have seen a 49-51 sedan body somewhere. Hope this helps.

'50 Chevy Shop Truck.....
TarheelRick replied to NitroMarty's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Really sharp looking "shop" truck. I like the steelies and wide whites. -
Very well done. Nice choice of colors and the wheels are what this build needs. The '56 is my favorite Tri-5 and you have done this one justice.

1955 Chevrolet
TarheelRick replied to Keef's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
I have to agree with you 99%, to me the '56 is the best looking of the Tri-5's and the 50's. -
Excellent drag combo. Love the '65 Chevelle wagon (love all 65 Chevelles, even the 4dr 300), very clean build. Also very neat build of the coupe and trailer.

Not really so much "what I got" rather than "what I found." I was doing some repairs on an old shed and noticed an odd shape laying on one of the shelves. This is what I found: Does this organization still exist, and are there any former/current members on the forum?

As the others have said this is a very well built Pro-stock. Did the sub-frame connectors come with the kit or did you install them yourself?

Very nice, clean build. Really like the color. Your outdoor photos make it look almost real, I like the way you subdued the background to bring focus on the car; well done.

Anyone know how old this paint is
TarheelRick replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I seem to have similar issues with nail polish. I have a drawer full of colors that were on sale and I couldn't resist, or I envisioned a build using that particular color. Some will reconstitute using thinner, others don't. -
Visible lasers as modeling tools
TarheelRick replied to slownlow's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Excellent idea, seems like it will also work to verify symmetry when doing custom work: makes sure custom headlights are even with each other, things like that. Thanks for the tip. I bought one from Harbor Freight that has a magnetic base and is designed to be stuck to the tool being used, such as a power saw. There are two problems with this: 1. most circular/power saws have aluminum bodies, 2. if it is attached to the saw then one slight bobble of the saw will move the laser line in line with the bobble and you are off the mark. But I think it should work for this since there is no movement involved. -
Still having issues responding to post when I use chrome, works alright on firefox although it is a bit slow to upload.

Really love those FED's and your build is a superb example. Also like that color of blue.
