Oh yeah, that is one sweet modified. That is the style racer I grew up watching at Bowman Gray Stadium and twice a year at Martinsville and North Wilkesboro Speedway. Beautiful ride.

One Off Quiz #32 - Finished
TarheelRick replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Not sure what it is but would not want to apply BMF to a model of it. -
Beautiful build. Loved to watch Bob Glidden run.

For some reason the "return arrow" up in the left-hand corner of the page has been replaced with the "refresh" circle. It is not only on this site but throughout my computer. I have done a restart with no results. When I try to clear cache and cookies nothing happens. I click on the "clear" button and nothing happens. Any advice?

I made it. A man came by the table and I said, "Let me make you a deal on everything I got," meaning of course whatever you are looking for. He replied, "OK, how much for all of it?" I made him a quote, which was way too low, and he took it. Kind of glad I didn't have to bring it all back home, but I let some really good stuff go for pennies on the dollar. Now I will have to go through my stash again and get a box ready for the Simpsonville Show next month, I already have a table reserved. Pretty good show overall. I won a couple in the raffle that will be going in my for-sale pile. Found a kit of an F-4D that had decals for Capt. Steve Ritchie's ace. I was at Udorn, Thailand when he scored his 2nd and 3rd kills and worked on that particular F-4, I had to have it and the price was really good. Also picked up one of Fast-Trax's Moebius's Chevy II Gassers for $20, couldn't pass up a deal like that. Wish we could have met up, maybe at the CKM show in Clemmons.

Got one of these in the stash, may use some of your tips - when I get to it. Sort of like a "roundtoit". Anyway congrats on the award.

Going to be an interesting build. I must agree the six-wheel look is a bit too much.

Very nice work.

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
TarheelRick replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Bought this on an on-line auction back in January, finally got it delivered today. Needs some work, but it will be better on gas mileage than my 5.0 F-150 4X4. 1980 Pinto (last year of production) auto (slips when cold, will replace fluid & filter) AM radio (have Pioneer am/fm.cd with 2 4X6 speakers), going to be a project car for sure. -
Finally, a Smart Car with a purpose. Very imaginative build.

Like the way you are going with this build. That is going to be one loud ride.

I do not know what to say other than what has already been said. This is one excellent piece of model-building craftsmanship. I really like this particular model of the Chaparral, not too crazy about the later vacuum cleaner designs. Jim Hall did it right with this one and so have you in the recreation.

You have done some really nice bodywork. IMHO for a full custom as this one the rear should be a bit lower but leave the front where it is. Maybe have the rocker panel sitting level with the ground. Again, this is just my opinion, whatever looks good to you is the way to do it

Very nice Mustang, especially like what you have done under the hood.

Got my table reserved, bring lots of money ?.

1960 AMT Chevrolet
TarheelRick replied to Stingray wes's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
And happy you should be. That is a very well built and weathered pick-up. -
Amazingly I was made aware of this phenomenon around 1973. I was stationed in Missouri in the USAF. Some friends and I went to the Lake of the Ozarks on a camping/fishing trip. We were awakened one morning by the sweet sound of a big V-8 with open exhausts, screaming across the lake. We later discovered it was a 2X4 Hemi-powered boat, the owner also had a dual quad 360 Dodge pickup to tow it with. There was also an SBC powered boat in the same marina. So yeah, hot rods and boats are two feathers on the same bird.

1981 "Fast 111's" Corvette 1:32 Scale by MPC: WIP
TarheelRick replied to David G.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Enjoying watching you resurrect this build. I have a few 1/32 kits I need to work on: the original issue 63 Vette that is paint crazed and needs sanding, I believe I can salvage it; the Watson Indy Roadster, missing the exhaust and nerf bars, but then again there is Plastruct and Evergreen in all the correct sizes, so that should not be much of an endeavor. Maybe if I were to get some of these out I would be more inclined to dig out my workbench and get my area back in working order. -
Excellent work and attention to detail. Very well constructed.

I am always impressed when a modeler takes on a full custom like this. You sir are accomplishing some mighty fine work with this model. In your first post you said you would "post some of the details", one detail that particularly interests me is those beautiful Buick headlights. How did you accomplish that?

Buying a pin vise HELP
TarheelRick replied to WizPorsche944's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have had this particular pin vise for many years and use it exclusively. It has four different size collets and will hold the smallest bit I want to use and as large as 1/8". With this one the black knob stays steady in your palm while the shaft rotates by turning the knurled collar. Works great especially when you have five thumbs on each hand. These two I have had longer but do not use. The upper one has storage for bits in one end but has only one collet. It is also difficult to spin. The bottom one has collets in each end and is also very difficult to use. -
Got this a couple of days ago, bought it from an on-line auction. Not sure of completeness, some has been put together. When I opened the box a few real small screws and nuts fell on the floor, will have to do a good inventory to see if anything major is missing.

Irish Rover II done
TarheelRick replied to Leica007's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Remember those days well, PV4 (Pickups, Vans & 4WD) Truckin' both covered the scene very well. Very well built and represents the time frame, nice details throughout. I know you did a WIP, I need to know how you did the sliding door.
