Thanks for sharing this build. That car was built less than a mile from my house. From my understanding of the story, Junior Johnson helped Travis Carter build a race shop and also provided the equipment and parts for the cars. I think Junior used this team as a test bed for some of his ideas. Anyway, there was one of the older cars up on a pole in front of the shop. Many of the locals claimed that was the only pole Jimmy Spencer would ever claim. Had a chance to meet Jimmy many years later at the North/South Shootout at Concord Speedway.

Looks representative of the era. Some of those year Gassers got pretty wonky. Your build looks right on.

Chassis Upgrade for AMT ‘66 Ford Falcon
TarheelRick replied to ToyLvr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Since the early Mustangs were built on the Falcon chassis pan, I would think the recent release of the '66 Mustang coupe should fit. But then AMT is not really known for scale accuracy, especially on the earlier kits, however that should be a good starting point. -

Looking good. IMHO the hex does look better, it is not as cluttered. -
'55 F-100 Styleside
TarheelRick replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Most definitely a beautiful build. Wish just one of shelf models would come out looking that good. Really love that paint job, very smooth and a beautiful color. -
Beautiful work. Those seats are outstanding. Pictures look like an on-line sales site advertising the car for sale.

I try to scroll through them, but there has been one on lately that I think needs to be addressed. It is from "Wish" which is usually a series of thumbnails. One of those thumbnails shows a "very personal male feature" with a jacket around it and just the end protruding. Don't know what they are trying to sell, but my wife saw that and came unglued and not in a friendly way.

You have a point there, I am a FORD guy.

Revell Baja Bronco My Way
TarheelRick replied to Kmb0319's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful build of an iconic truck. I must parrot the others on your choice of colors, very nice combination and they complement each other so well. I do have one question, would it have not been better to have a rubber floor covering as opposed to carpet? After all this truck is going to be driven in the mud and sand and a carpet will not last long in those circumstances; just an observation. The carpet does look nice, is that embossing powder or funny fur.? -
NHRA GT/AA '96 Firebird Slammer
TarheelRick replied to Straightliner59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Going to be an interesting racer. As far as classification, I am as lost as you are. I grew up watching drag racing when it was SS/A-SS/J (AA-JA for automatics) for Super Stock, A-R/S (SA for automatics) for stock classes, and A-D/FX for the factory hot rods. Since the late 60's the classes have changed as often as I change my socks. My only suggestion would be to try to find a NHRA rule-book for the year/era you are building and try to decipher their classifications. -
Definitely one of your best yet, nice color choice. Must disagree, the original '66-67 Charger was the best ever; loved that fastback look.

By chance do you have any leftover inspiration you could send my way? I am thoroughly enjoying watching this build. These style automobiles have always held my attention, and you seem to have the same perception of detail the original coachbuilders possessed. As for my $.02 on the tires, it will depend upon the paint scheme you use. If the colors are bright, then black-walls would look right; if the color is darker or more subdued than whitewalls would brighten it up. Again that is only my $.02 and probably worth less than that. Keep building and updating.

1966 Chevrolet El Camino
TarheelRick replied to Bespoke's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Mighty nice looking El Camino. From the plain-jane color, I almost expected to see a six-cylinder under the hood. A very clean, realistic build. -
Very fine looking Mustang. Love all of them.

Parts recommendations please!
TarheelRick replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For a really different engine, use the Lincoln engine from the Lindberg 40-something Lincoln; it has the exhaust manifolds on top of the engine and the intakes on the side. Or maybe from one of the AMT/MPC Lincoln Gangbusters kits. -
Roof rack on Vans in the '70s
TarheelRick replied to Luc Janssens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some of the heavier duty ones, plumbers and construction workers, bolted through the roof to the support ribs. -
Have to agree with the others, this is one nasty, sinister machine. Very well thought out photography also.

Revell 1957 Ford sedan gasser #4478
TarheelRick replied to Deuces's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or you could drop the T-Bolt engine in it, leave the front suspension alone and run A or B/MP. I have the Wagon kit, really need to get some stuff cleared off my bench so I can start a bunch more stuff. -
The Other Magazine Forum
TarheelRick replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just tried and can open the magazine site, but the forum site keeps timing out. -
By chance is SA forum under construction? I have been unable to open it for three days.

Very nice build. BMF, either you love it or hate it, yet it does add realism to a finished model.

Very nice work on this build. Those ice chests are excellent, but, they need a bottle cap opener on the side and they would be perfect; had to have some way to open those Coca-Cola pony bottles.

Very well built Nova, reminds me of a couple that used to terrorize the streets around here in my younger days. Always wanted one, but Dad would never sign for me to have one. You build some excellent models.
