Scale Auto Web Site
iamsuperdan replied to Chuckyg1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My dad was a longtime subscriber to FSM, as he was an aircraft/boat modeller. I always read the issues when he was done, and I learned a few things when it came to weathering and detailing. But, the lack of automotive content prevented me from ever buying an issue or wanting to subscribe. Will be interesting to see how that mag evolves to fill the void left by SA's departure. Or if it just means one two page article per issue. Personally, I won;t miss their forums. Never seemed to be too active, and the random moderation and editing of posts was annoying. As for this place, we have a healthy forum with a ton of knowledge, and we will never edit because you typed too much! And as for the MCM magazine, like everyone else, I wait and see. Basically, it's out with the old and in with the new. IT's going to be a new format, with new management, new contributors, new layout, new attitude. Takes a long time to fully ramp up and prepare something like that, and I for one can;t wait to see it. -
You bet they are! Highlight and show off your builds however you want! Especially when they look as good as yours. Nice work!

Interesting. A lot of people in our neighbourhood use a company called Green Drop. And there was a lot of dead grass on our street this year. Not as bad as your lawn, but still...lots of patchy dead grass. At least they're doing something to try and make it right.

Love the subject matter. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Every now and then, you need to step out of your comfort zone. For myself, that means anything older than about 1968 or so. It's just not what I'm into, it's not what I normally build. But this one was something different that caught my eye for some reason. Although I didn't build it as a clone, the inspiration was the 1960 Chev truck that Honda build to celebrate their 60th anniversary in North America. They restored a truck to look like one of their delivery vehicles from the early 60s. I dug the idea, dug the look, that was my starting point. I build this box stock, using Tamiya paints. I added some plug wires and seatbelts, and that's about it. Interior on the Honda appeared to be varying shades of grey, which kind of aligns with what the kit instructions called for. I think I used 4 or 5 different colours in there. I like how this one turned out.

Eddie Van Halen dies from throat cancer.

No disrespect, but the older folks won't really be aware of Pantera, let alone who the members were. It's a generational thing. If you like heavy music though, listen to their 2nd album, Vulgar DIsplay of Power. Absolute masterpiece. I love all eras of VH, including the Gary Cherone era! Roth and Haggar were just so diametrically opposed though. Roth vocalized, didn't really sing, and was all about the party. Sammy has way more talent as a singer and musician, but wasn't quite the front man Roth was. I mean, Sammy is great, but as far as the "show" goes, he's no Roth! -
What did you see on the road today?

Was at one of my suppliers this morning. One of his managers brought his toy to work. Volvo 940 wagon. 5.0L V8 swap. 100% awesome. -

As far as I'm concerned, there are three thrones in metal guitar heaven. Jimi Hendrix invented metal guitar. He unleashed the chaos, the fuzz, the feedback. Eddie Van Halen showed that the chaos, the fury, the feedback, the volume...all could be controlled. Dimebag Darrell was the ultimate master of metal guitar technique. That's it. No more admissions, no more thrones to be added. Ever. The social conditions that produced these guitar gods will never again exist. The guitar god is a dying breed, and as a guitarist, this disappoints me. -
Correct. The one tons were available as longbox or chassis cab only, regardless of cab configuration or number of rear wheels.

Moving over from the SA forum

Welcome! You definitely need to post more pics of your builds! That Torino looks awesome. Look around, get involved, don't be afraid to ask questions. -
I have the USPS version on the bench right now. Not building as USPS though.

Happy to see the tanker! Definitely grabbing that one. Been trying to find the Revell tanker for years now.

Now that is pretty gosh darned awesome! Would love to get that out doing some autocrossing or roadracing!

LOVE John Hiatt! Discovered him in the mid-90s, saw him on Austin CIty Limits. Definitely not what I was listening to at the time, but I loved it. Have been a fan ever since. In fact, I think this is the performance that hooked me. -

Gutted. Like many, one of my biggest influences. I don't play like him, but his attitude and feel were something I tried to emulate. -
What is the point of these little plastic tab things on plastic parts? Placement on kits seems pretty random to me. And why would this window piece require four of them?
-
I'd place them squarely in rule #5!

Nah, if it weren't for the GTI, the entire hot hatch movement would never have happened. We would have been left with Trans Ams or Corvettes that had 150hp V8s and weighed 2 tons. The GTI was exactly what engineers from GM did back in the 60s. They took their run of the mill family car, the Rabbit/Golf, and gave it a hotter engine, better transmission, better brakes, better suspension, and some trim upgrades. Rabbit is to GTI like LeMans is to GTO.

I'll buy one of the GTIs. Unlike many, I could not care less about cars from the 50s. The 80s were my generation, and the GTI is one of the more iconic cars from the 80s. I have the old ESCI kit. It's nicely detailed, and looks more accurate than the Revell kit from a few years ago.
