Least popular kits
iamsuperdan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You mean this one? Picked this one up, factory sealed for under $10CDN. I love these quirky kits. so any of the kits in the link I originally posted would be fun to me. The Newhart Oldsmobile, the Alf Ferrari, I think they'd be hilarious. And as a VW nut and formaer van owner, I'm actively hunting for a Magnum PI VW T3. -
Not sure if this has ever been discussed here, but a friend forwarded this link to me. And it made me chuckle. http://jalopnik.com/these-are-the-worst-selling-model-car-kits-of-all-time-1712668537 And I'm pretty sure I would gladly add at least half of these to my stash if available!

That's a really nice build. -
Looks like Maritime Blue, my fav Porsche colour.

Around here, the typical Ken Block fan is what's known as a "bro." They drive lifted trucks that never go off road (AKA the bro-dozer), still wear acid washed jeans, wear white framed shades and Affliction tee shirts. Picture that MTV show, the Jersey Shore, but stick them in an oil based economy. Those are the Ken Block fans and are the ones who that graphics scheme is aimed at. Well, those guys and junior high school kids.

I didn't think the first movie was bad at all. For the role, I thought Tom did just fine. But then, I've never read the book/comic/whatever, so have no clue about the backstory or the history of this character. And when watching an action movie like this, or any movie for that matter, does anyone honestly care what religion an actor is? I literally could not care less about an actor's religious beliefs when I'm watching a movie. Christian? Christian Scientist? Muslim? Flying Spaghetti Monster? Jedi? Good grief. If the person is a decent actor, or plays the role the right way for a particular movie, then I'll be into it. Religion doesn't affect my enjoyment of a movie, unless the producers start packing the movie full of religious propaganda. Then I'm out. Same goes for politics.

Really nice build! -
Italeri is asking for new kit subject requests.
iamsuperdan replied to chuckyr's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Correct! There are plenty of kits out there that cater to the vintage crowd. I think the kit manufacturers should also be catering to the people like me that want modern kits. -
Nikola One. Hmm...
iamsuperdan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If the hydrogen infrastructure existed, then the website claims wouldn't be so far fetched. But if they plan to start selling these things in 3-4 years, they really need to get moving on the refuelling stations. I think a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain would make more sense. Combine that with the rest of the innovations they've got, and I think this would be pretty feasible. The launch is in December, so will be interesting to see the real and functioning prototype. -
https://nikolamotor.com/ Hydrogen powered, 1900km range, class 8 tractor. Comes with 1 million miles worth of free fuel. Besides the obvious comments about how it doesn't look like a dated old Kenworth that will invariably pop up, what do you think? I find it curious that they design this highly aerodynamic truck, yet put traditional aluminum wheels on it. Should it not have a set of wheel covers, like a Freightliner Inspiration? Would improve the aero a little more. I think it's nice to see some real innovation happening. I want a kit of this.

Here's what the car did with "only" 845 horses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oCoEISp2FI Yes, it's garish, but it's a racecar. Most racecars do have loud and obnoxious graphics. And in this case, if you strip the graphics away, you're left with a tube frame all wheel drive car designed for going insanely fast in both straight lines and around corners. And he is a crazy good driver. Both in drift racing and rallycross. As for the graphics, Ken Block's fanbase are mainly guys who bought this:

If you need some reference shots for engines and interiors and whatnot, I have a bunch of pics of the one I posted above. Can put them here if you want.

Sometimes, I want to finish cars in the "wrong" colour just because I want to see how upset people will get over that. Anger over inconsequential things amuses me. Anyway, I think this will look good in pink.

In White Gold, it reminds me of this car. I used to work for Porsche, and this was one of my favs to take out. 1987 911 Cabrio.

How Many Projects Are You Working On?
iamsuperdan replied to Warren D's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't feel so bad now. I've only got 6 on the go right now. -
I count myself lucky I guess. I subscribe to quite a few magazines, and in 20 years of receiving magazines, I've only ever had one issue show up damaged. And when I sent a pic to the company, they sent me a replacement issue. I'm still not sure how magazines arrive at my door with the subscription cards still inside them.

? for Ebay experts
iamsuperdan replied to FordRodnKustom's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
lolz. I think he actually belongs to this board. He's using quotes from this thread in his ads. He says he expects offers, so throw a realistic offer at him and see what happens. What's the worst that could happen? He says no? He counteroffers with something? I still don't understand the anger over EBay listings for parts; that this is the kind of strife that throws people into tantrum mode. There's a need and a demand, this guy, and others like him are supplying that demand. Seeing his feedback rating tells me he's doing something right. At the end of the day, is it really that difficult to scroll past? -
Ford Bronco and Ranger Are Coming Back!
iamsuperdan replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For those who haven't seen it, this is the 2016 Ranger the rest of the world gets. The one that will be built in the US next year, and the one that the new Bronco will be based on. And here's the Wildtrak trim level. The "offroad" version, casually photoshopped onto some rocks. Disappointed yet? -
Ford Bronco and Ranger Are Coming Back!
iamsuperdan replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is the Ranger they build for the rest of the world. Only produced here. Just like the Escape, Focus, Fiesta, and Fusion. Those were all available in Europe, Asia, and Australia for at least a couple of eyars before showing up in North America. We get fewer and different engine choices, and less options and trim levels, and fewer body styles, but it's the same platform. Ranger will be the same. Same platform, same basic architechture, no diesel options, fewer gas options, no manual transmission, fewer trim levels, etc. Because apparently, that's what consumers here want. Same reason we can't get a diesel Jeep Wrangler, or a manual transmission Mercedes.
