Well, this will be a long one. Right now, I'm pleased with how good our local vets are. It's been kind of a scary week here. I've posted her pics here, but Luna is our Husky / Shepherd mix. She turns 6 on the 19th. Has always been healthy, no issues, never had to visit the vet for anything other than her yearly check up and vaccine boosters. That changed big time. Last Sunday, I took our pup out for our daily walk. Was mid-afternoon, and everything was totally normal. Got home, she had a lay down in the living room. Made dinner and fd her at about 5:30. Noticed she was walking funny to come and eat. She ate, and on the way back to the living room, her back end bumped into the table. Then she seemed really clumsy. By 6:30, her back legs were not working at all. It was like her back half was paralyzed. She didn't appear to be in any pain at all, it's just that she couldn't walk or sit or anything. Called our vet's emergency number, and they directed us to a vet in the city. So I got to carry our 95lb pup to the car. Luckily, no one else was there, and we got right in. They came out with a gurney, but Luna was not having any of that, so I got to carry her in. We got into the exam room, and the vet checked her over. No obvious physical issues at all. Reflexes on her back legs were somewhat exaggerated, which was a concern apparently. Did some bloodwork and sat comfortably. Doc says she thinks it might be an enlarged disc in her spine. Common with bigger dogs, requires surgery, but need to CT scan her first. We wait an hour or two for the neurologist to arrive. She comes in, checks everything out, determines it is most likely not the spine/disc thing. But we need an MRI to be sure. They don't have an MRI machine, but another vet ER does. So we decide we have to do this, so they refer us over and tell us to go to that vet ER in the morning. By now, it's about 3:30am. We drive home. I carry her in. And of course, I'm worried, so I just have a quick shower and change and we drive to the other vet ER. Which is of course, on the opposite side. And we're having a snowstorm. An hour or so later, we get to the new vet. Luckily, no one else is there. We carry Luna in, she goes right to a kennel in the back and I wait in an exam room. Doc finishes his morning rounds, then checks Luna over. Comes in, gives me his thoughts, asks if we want to proceed. So she gets admitted and I go home. That afternoon, Luna went under anesthetic, had a spinal fluid test done, then had an MRI. Prognosis is good. Turns out she had something called an FCE. Fibro Cartilaginous Embolism. It was described as a stroke, but in her spine. Some cartilage managed to block a blood vessel in her spine. And luckily, it is cured with time and physio. And I finally slept Monday night. I picked her up Tuesday AM, and she was able to sort of walk in, with the use of a sling. So way better than when I dropped her off. For the past week, I've been carrying her around when she needs to use the bathroom, carrying her go an eat. Exercising her legs, and she's been doing okay. However, I haven't been sleeping much, because I need to take her out a couple of times in the night, and those first couple of nights she was whimpering a lot and needed to be flipped and moved when she was uncomfortable. Which was often. Now she can roll around herself, and can very shakily walk on carpet. She has her first physio appt later this week. And luckily, I work from home most of the time, so I've been able to devote a lot of time to her. Had to cancel a trip to Cheyenne though. Will now be going after the holidays. And luckily, we are doing fine financially, because this has been a very expensive week. So how is this a pleased post? I'm pleased that our pup will eventually recover fully. I'm please with modern veterinary medicine, and the professionalism I experienced with both of the vet ERs we visited. They were excellent to work with. And I hope I never have to set foot in their buildings again!

When can we expect to see issue 226
iamsuperdan replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
226 hasn't shipped yet. Which means 227 and 228 haven't gone to print or shipped either. -
I actually 3D printed a new grille for it, with upgraded headlights. But thanks! Plus, I think you already sent me some files for these trucks! I should revisit those and see if I can use them. And I plan on doing some work on this one over the weekend. Finally! Last time I left it, I had painted the engine, and enlarged the hole in the firewall so that it fits.

I actually have this one on the bench too. Using it to hone my BMF skills. It's on the backburner though, as I managed to lose the entire clear sprue. So all windows and lights are missing. Still in the bag too. Something I noticed...it seems significantly larger than 1/24 to me. Maybe closer to 1/20. I have the Revell version too, and it's the same thing. Although I suppose the Revell is just a rebox of this Aoshima kit. You're going much further than I am down the "adding details" rabbit hole. Nicely done!

Are model kits toys. ?
iamsuperdan replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Without venturing into politics...you're right. There's a reason this is going into effect now. And that's all we'll say about that. And I for one hope that those in charge think these are toys. -
Tamiya Spray Ban in Canada Update
iamsuperdan replied to bytownshaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Okay, so I actually watched the video last night. Yes, I posted earlier without watching it. Funny to see that I found the same article he's reading. Same thoughts. Anyway... I'll have to try that! lolz. I do have a bunch of remaining spray paints. -
Tamiya Spray Ban in Canada Update
iamsuperdan replied to bytownshaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't remember where I saw it, but I read that other countries were responding like Canada. So Tamiya is smart to get ahead of any more bans by reformulating now. The funny thing is, I decided to use the ban as an excuse to jump into airbrushing. It's possible Tamiya have lost my paint business over this. Not that I'm a big deal, but still. I can't be the only one that went and found other options. -

I actually didn't make the headlight lenses on this one. 3D printing them in clear resin didn't work so well. Too foggy. And Being that there's a corner involved, making the lights using my vacuum former didn;t work so well either. I need some different plastic for the former, something a little thicker that will hold it's shape. The grille is a Duplicolor chrome spray, mesh insert from the parts bin. -
Post your Foxbody Mustang builds here!
iamsuperdan replied to Musclecarbuilder's topic in Community Builds
I'm working on my first Fox body build now. Revell's old McLaren Mustang kit. It's pretty basic, but turning out quite nicely. The decals are toast, so I literally just ordered a replacement set from Ray's. Like two minutes ago. -
Hey, guess what! Still no progress. Ahh, I suck.

Would be pretty sweet if the tax break extended to supplies too. I mean, we use hobby paints. And they're sold in toy & hobby stores alongside products from Crayola and whatnot. So it stands to reason that paints and brushes and glues and whatnot might benefit too. Ready to stock up when the word comes down! -
Tape Residue Frustration
iamsuperdan replied to That Plasticated Guy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've only had one tape issue so far. Many years ago, I masked the windshield of a Tamiya BMW Z3 with Tamiya tape. The mask worked beautifully! But when I removed the tape, it somehow reacted to the windshield and left residue, which I could not remove with anything. And the windshield itself was actually damaged, with little "holes" in the plastic, almost like the tape ate into it. I still use Tamiya tape, and haven't had an issue since. But I'm always nervous when masking glass now. -

Well you may not be happy with it, but I sure would be. Looks great! -

Not to hi-jack your thread, but I like your body! Prints up quite nicely. Should try making your own decals. Much faster, and they turn out pretty good. I'm going to print another one, and will be adding more of the details and accessories that you have. And I like the Chev crewcab you picked too. -
I've been tempted a few times, but have never moved forward. Same with Temu. Something just seems sketchy. Interested to see what others have experienced.

What to build?
iamsuperdan replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My issue isn't really how I want to build a certain kit, it's actually picking the kit. When I'm ready to start something new, my process is to go to the stash, and stare at it for a while. I scan the kits, thinking about what I'm in the mood to build. I'll grab one, open it, check it out, put it back. Scan some more, grab another kit, put it back. Then I realize an hour has gone by, and I still haven't picked anything, so I just go do something else. I repeat this until I finally grab something to start. I take it to the bench, open it up, get ready to go...and then bundle it back up, go back to the stash, put it away, grab something else, and then actually start on that. 🤪 -
10 inches of snow so far today. When I was up with the dog at 2am, it wasn't snowing yet. And it's still coming down. Highways are a mess. But I'm one of those oddballs that likes snow. Took the pup out for a walk at the lake so she can bounce in the snow. She likes burying her face in snow for some reason. And then of course, get home and it's a hot chocolate with Baileys. Been a good day. Even though I've had to shovel twice.

iamsuperdan replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wheels & Wings Hobbies posted that they are awaiting clarification on this. Two month tax break would be a good time to grab some extra kits, save a few bucks. -
And PM replied to.

What Scared the Heck Outta You Today
iamsuperdan replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
If your mechanic gave you this diagnosis, I'd consider finding a new mechanic. -
Just got back from a few days in Whitehorse, in the Yukon Territories. Was up there to host an open house at our dealer partner. Plus attend the 2024 Geosciences tradeshow & forum. So yeah, a work trip, but when the views are so nice it doesn't always seem like work. Sun doesn't come up until 10am or so. This pic was taken at 9:45 Sunday morning. And this was out at Miles Canyon, around 1 in the afternoon. Sun stays low in the sky all day. Got a little hiking in. And then for the open house, this was at our dealer. Again, about 9:30 am on Saturday. Still dark.

When can we expect to see issue 226
iamsuperdan replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
At this point. I don't think you should renew. What we're doing is obviously not to your standards, so you should probably find something that is. There are less than 10 people involved in the production of each issue. People with full time jobs and families and other responsibilities, plus as most people know, the boss has some health issues that take him away from his duties. The mag is a hobby and a service, not a career. So if it comes out every 2 or 3 months, we're happy with that, and most people seem to be happy with that too. And as was mentioned previously, you subscription is based on the number of issues, not the frequency. -
As has been discussed here, Tamiya spray paints have been banned for the foreseeable future here in Canada. I've taken this as my sign that I need to dive into the world of airbrushing. So I now have an airbrush with compressor and all the trimmings.

Tamiya spray cans banned in Canada!!!
iamsuperdan replied to Bullybeef's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Was speaking with a manager at my preferred hobby shop. Apparently, the ban is spreading to other countries now. Tamiya is going to need to figure this out for sure.
