With the 24 HRS of Le Mans this Saturday, I've decided I'm going to do a 24hr build, much like the FB group does for the 24hr of Daytona. I'll post updates here throughout the day and night and anyone else who will be watching and would like to join, feel free. Post your pics up here. I know there are guys that get together over the weekend for this, but I dont really know anyone in my area that builds so I'm doing it online. Everyone and anyone is welcome to participate. If anyone else feels like adding their names to the list PM me and I'll add your name so people scanning the thread can see who is participating. PM me your build choice too, if you know what you want to build. Any subject matter is fine, does not have to be a race car or even a car for that matter. Rules: 1: New unstarted kit. You can dechrome parts, wash them. Up to 4 parts can be pre added to the body. 2: Kit should be painted, a 5min snapper isnt in the spirit of the "contest" and its just for fun so not really a contest. 3: Box stock, or you can customize, but remember the time frame, Start of the race to the end of the race, pending on your time zone. 4: Cant remember any more right now, but its just for fun. So build something. Entry List 1: Jhedir6-- Fujimi Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 2: Amar2300- Tamiya Toyota GT-One TS020 3: da_ashman- Fujimi McLaren F1LM The race begins at 3pm (1500hrs), France time, on Saturday June 17th. For those unsure what time that will be for you can do the conversion HERE.

Pontiac TransAm fans unite
Jhedir6 replied to djflyer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So to steer away from the topic of this threads 1:1 discussion, and into a scale discussion. I was chatting with Chris from C1 Models about this being a possible TK for the new AMT Camaro and he hinted that it was indeed on his list of possibilities for a TK later this year. He's going to Atlanta this fall so fingers crossed we could have a T/A TK for the winter builds. Personally I love the Trans Am way more than the Camaro and wish GM still built them, but that's not the way things are. As a kid my uncle had a Bandit T/A ('77 if I remember right) and my older cousin had a '72 Firebird, so I've always loved these cars. So I'd be happy with a TK for a modern Trans Am. David -
I agree, nice haul. I see a Lancaster in there, my uncle was co-pilot on one of those in WWII for the RCAF and I'd love to build one of those. PM sent to you Jay. David

Nice pair Ash. Love the SS-X nicely done. David

Raptor repainted Red, straight from the can. I'm going to let it cure up a couple more days before wet sanding then clear. Going to use the same brand clear out of the can, Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch. Hoping to get the chassis done in the morning along with the wheels. Nice work on that Palmer kit.

Stripped resin body, now soft.
Jhedir6 replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
First... dont use alcohol to strip resin. Use Castrol Super Clean. If the resin hasnt lost it shape try putting it in the freezer. Hope it's not ruined . -
Thanks Mike......thanks alot. Being someone who loves race vehicles and their liveries I'm now going to have to try something like this....thanks alot Mike.....another project to add to the pile.

Came in over the weekend. Both from Free Time Hobbies, the Pathfinder was on sale for $13.95 and the McLaren was $14.95. I also hit up Micheal's and picked up a couple kits.

Tamiya AS / TS / PS differences?
Jhedir6 replied to Chris1992's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since you're in the UK look into Halford's paint too. I've seen some really nice paint jobs by people using that paint. I havent found anywhere local to me in Canada that carries it, but I'm hoping to get to try it out some day. David -
HAHA yeah. What am I working on, that's not done.....let's see. Ok, so my plan was to go with this. I got started a few weekends back, but havent really done much since cause I've got a nasty cold that's making the rounds in my area and have been sick for like 4 wks almost now. Anyways, last night I got all this out and had it set up on the dinning room table to build so I could binge watch some Netflix while I was building, and wouldnt you know it, the dog ate my homework. And I'm not kidding. The cat jumped up on the table and knocked my Tamiya paint stand over that was gleefully holding my prepped for paint body, which landed on the floor. Of course at the time I was outside with the dogs and didnt know it. Once we were back in side, I was getting dinner ready and thought to myself "hmmm self.....the puppy's really quite. Maybe I should go see why?" Well I found him, under the dinning room table turning my Nova body into confetti. Awesome. So I've sent a request to Revell, hoping they take pity on me and send me a new body. I'm hoping they get a laugh out of "the dog ate my homework" reason for the request. So now, I'm shelving the Nova and going to do a nice easy quick build of a simple kit. Now on the bench...well dinning room table is I started on this early this morning and I just got back from Canadian Tire with some paint to try after seeing the beautiful job done by Jmaracing's Fireball Camaro http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/123728-fireball-camaro/#comment-1796470 Hoping the paint on the Raptor comes out like that Camaro. I'm toying with the idea of swapping out the stock wheels/tires for some of these Back to enjoying my day off with some building and bbqing. David

I concur. What a finish, from a can. I was so impressed with the quality of the finish you achieved I too just went out and bought some to try out. I've got a 2017 Raptor I just started and was going to paint red anyways so here's hoping mine comes out as good as yours. Fantastic job. David

SAWEET...................I love that colour. Looking forward to more. David

Tamiya AS / TS / PS differences?
Jhedir6 replied to Chris1992's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
TS--is for plastic, PC is for polycarbonate (RC cars). So you want TS for model cars. The small bottles of acrylics are nice for engine/detailing/interior. I suggest a bottle of clear red for tailights and clear orange for turn signals, Clear blue and red can be used for A/N fittings if you're into race cars, and clear yellow for headlights for modern GT cars. Vallejo acrylics are really nice too, I'm actually in the process of using them more than tamiya's now as I find they dry up even smoother than Tamiya acrylics. TS sprays are great paints, one of the best sprays you can get. Just remember, its best to use the same brands together, till you learn which brands work with each other and which dont. I'd use Tamiya primer/paint/clear just to avoid any issues. Once you have a stock of left overs, you can experiment with which brands you can mix. X/XF for acrylics, the "F" is for flats (ex, X-1 is black XF-1 is flat black) Invest in some Tamiya putty too. Good luck. David -
Not sure who else may of ordered from these guys, but if you haven't I cant recommend them enough. https://freetimehobbies.com/ I just placed my second order with them this morning around 10:30am EST and by 12:30pm EST I got a shipping notice. Definitely the fastest order filling I've ever seen. I got 2 Aoshima kits on clearance for less than $30 US, and with shipping and exchange, I'm still under the cost of one of these kits listed on ebay, or anywhere else I looked recently. Check them out. David

There's one available, been out for some time. http://www.hiroboy.com/124_Honda_NSX_Acura_2016_Detail_up_Set_PEResin--product--10657.html I thought about getting it too, but lately I've been spending too much and not building nearly enough so I plan on doing some mostly OOB builds for a bit. Update. I didnt take any progress pics as I was build because I had some serious issues with the mold lines on the body. No matter how many times I sanded them out and prepped the body they kept showing back up under primer (3x's I sanded and reprimed). I even had to strip the paint twice and start all over. All in all I spent far too much money on the paint on this thing so I got the point of " good enough" and have left it at that. Interior is painted with Scale Finishes Flat Black Base coat without any clear. I wanted a blacked out interior. The only accents are the chrome parts from the kit and some CF decals from the Studio 27 sheet. I forgot to detail paint the center console but I'll get that done before final assembly Engine was painted with Valejo paints as was most of the suspension and exhaust. I didnt do much in the way of detailing or washes as none of it is visible once its assemble. I did weather the exhaust some, but again, kind of a waist since it cant be seen at all. Engine deck is covered with CF from the Studio 27 set. This is a really nice set. Everything is precut and fits perfectly. The only gripe I have is, although numbered. they aren't really in the order the decals should be placed. Taking some time you can sort of figure out which order they should be done it, but it would of been nice to have better instructions on which order to do them. Hood, roof and reardeck are covered with the Studio 27 CF as well. Went on really nice, all pieces were to the right size and shape, but again, a proper installation order would of been good. There are a total of 7 decals for the hood, 3 for each of the vents and one large one for the hood. Roof and rear deck are one each though the rear deck one didnt wrap all the way over the back so I just coloured mine in black. The Ontario licence plates are from an Ebay vendor here in Ontario. They're actually stickers but look pretty good, they even include the coloured sticker that goes in the top right corner of the plate denoting the expiry Month and Year. The body colour is McLaren Volcano Orange from Gravity Colors. As always, really nice paint, went on easy and looks good even without clear. Wheels are painted with Scale Finishes Black Base coat without clear for a more matte finish. The body will be cleared, shortly. The Acura symbols on the wheel centers are the metal transfers from the kit and worked perfectly, however the metal stickers for the hood and rear deck would not come off the clear protector paper and before I ruined the CF decals I decided to scrap them. I should be doing the clear here after lunch. Thanks for checking in, Comments and criticisms welcome and appreciated. David

Current race car decal question
Jhedir6 replied to NYNS Franky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most real race cars have the decals, which are stickers for the most part applied over the finish. You'll even see crew members during a race replacing sponsor decals while the cars are in the pits being worked on (usually during 24hr races, since at times the cars can be in the pits for extended durations). For a model I'd paint, decal then clear that way your decals are protected when you polish the clear or clean the finish if you are going to take it to a show. Might not be "accurate" but I'd prefer that to accidentally scratching part of a decal off. Good luck. David -
Shizuoka Hobby Show 2017, Few More Pic's Added.
Jhedir6 replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the pics. Absolutely nothing there interests me other than the M6 GT3 which I've had on pre order since last fall....its suppose to FINALLY start shipping this month. Likely I'll pick up another of the BMW's later on this summer. I'll do the first one OOB as the Spa winner and hopefully by then Patto's Place will have his set done for the Castrol BMW from the 12hr of Bathurst from this year. The livery on this car is awesome. Hopefully Tamiya will have something interesting. A Ferrari 488 would be perfect, a 488 GT would be even better. -
I'm in. I'm not really in a slump but I've been jumping from project to project and need to clear my bench and focus on one thing so this might just be the thing I need. I picked up this at Michael's last weekend with a 50% off coupon. I'll get started on it shortly after breakfast. Thanks Rob. Great idea. David

Looking good Bruce. Looks like you're almost at the finish line. Good luck on getting some time to get it finished. David

Partial Kits- do they have any value?
Jhedir6 replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You should really PM Bill if its only missing wheels/tires. I'd be willing to trade something for it. Being a Mustang guy I have parts galore.
