I'm putting this on my must have list myself. It may just become a display item on the shelf (as my wife finally allowed me to start making displays for selves all around the house)

A new trend selling kit parts?
CFMgarage replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like this topic so I'm gonna weigh in my opinion...My answer is YES and NO in the same time. What I mean by that is yes, I'm willing to buy a new set of wheels and tires, or a new windshield, or bumper if it's necessary for my project, unless the price is significantly higher than it's respected percentage of the kit. As in, if a set of wheels and tires is $12 plus shipping from a kit that I can most likely but for $20 as a full kit, then I'll just get the kit -> But if it's a seller who is out to be reasonable and sells that same wheel and tire kit for $5 plus shipping, I'll do that. (Just like those a-hole sellers who put up dually beds for $25-30 on ebay *just the bed* because they know duallies are big money these days - even snap kits go for $60-70) -
Oh my, I just went through all the awesomeness in this thread! Makes me wanna get a lathe...and I still wouldn't be able to match your skills. Not even close. Really nice job, can't wait to see more.

May be a stupid question, but...
CFMgarage replied to Bullitt's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Where exactly on a model do you have issues with glue standing out? You're only supposed to use a wee little tad bit of glue so it doesn't stand out at all. There are also different glues for different pieces/materials... -
Oh that is so neat! Jim you made a model that I never considered buying look amazing. Awesome creativity and definitely a great job!

I like it! Clean little viper for sure. I love the engine wiring. Not a lot of people do that on these rt/10's.

"finish it before I die"...this made me lol. Some people's bucket lists include cave diving and visiting forgotten nations...and then there's us, who just wanna finish our model projects. Soooo can you make a will that if you don't finish it, I can take over? Knowing my skills though, I would definitely die before I finished it. Anyway, all 4 of those problems sound badas$ and I think you'll crank out a crazy cool solution. I'll keep checking in every couple months or so.

That's a beautiful car! Great job on it. Makes me wanna do a custom older vette too

I'm so totally blown away right now. I just read through all 10 pages, carefully studying every picture...and I've realized I'm but an ant in your world of modeling ...Thanks for all the tedious explanations and showing us just how to do what you do. I still don't think I could come even close to this skill level in a thousand years, but you're great inspiration on why it pays off to work on all the small details. Thanks for building such a bada$s model! -
That's badass haha love it!

I love it! For the longest time I've been thinking about buying a 1:1 older Infiniti and slamming it on the ground with some 20-21 inch wheels on there ...Would make a badass affordable daily driver

Hello model car builders!
CFMgarage replied to defiantworkshop's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Welcome Jon! You'll have a great time here, this is one of the most active and nicest forums on the internet, and there's certainly a lot of experience and talent here to answer all your questions. I can't get on BlogSpot from work but I'll check out your work later for sure. -
Hey Brandon! Welcome to the forum. My only suggestion is, start at your own level. Lots of people on here build ridiculously realistic models that they put 4-6 months if not years into...don't do that at first. Build for your enjoyment, try your best at fully embracing just what's in your box, and then over time, start adding aftermarket stuff and extras...learn as you go, and don't overwhelm yourself. And: patience is key. Don't rush it. Good luck, have fun!

Cannonball Run 2016 "The Aussieball" Official Build Thread
CFMgarage replied to TFchronos's topic in Community Builds
Nice progress guys. My charger is just hanging out, all in pieces, as I've restarted my suspension build. I have collected all my parts, to try and build a fully working suspension that can do travel/rebound/flex...I may scratch the idea but I have it patterned together in my head, just hope I can engineer it from styrene and brass. I also have been practicing roll cage building on my other projects, so I can confidently get into it now. Will get back to this car soon. -
I'd be interested myself, depending on when it'd happen and how long we'd have, as I have quite a few builds right now that I'd like to knock out in the next 6 months.

Trophies, plaques and medals/ribbons
CFMgarage replied to Nacho Z's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have zero model kit trophies, but have a decent collection from my autocross and road racing days on one display shelf in the living room, and both my wife and I have a sizeable collection of bodybuilding and fitness trophies that are on a display shelf above our fireplace. If I end up becoming good enough to have the privilege of winning an award or trophy for one of my model kits, I'll most likely create a small diorama for it and put it in a glass case like others have said and keep it in there for good next to it's trophy. -

Mark, I usually just lay down another (light) layer of urethane clear or testors decal bonder and I'm good.
