Modeling for fun.....again!
Xingu replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Back to the original topic.... I only build for fun. Absolutely none of my builds are perfect, but they are all my best effort without getting too frustrated. Once I start getting frustrated with some aspect of my model, I walk away. I know I do not have the patience to put a lot of detail into a model, so I usually do not try. I will detail paint a few things here and there or try a multi-color paint job. I occasionally post my progress or completed models and am open to criticism. If someone posts something that I may not have tried or thought of, I may look into trying it out on a future build. Folks will also post suggestions that I know I will never try. I will just say thanks and (as Snake says) model on. I think it is a good trait when you can see the line between fun and work. -
Modeling for fun.....again!
Xingu replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is the exact thing I took away from that story. Rivet counter and accurate builder are two different things to me. A rivet counter is an accurate builder that lacks people skills. We have lots of accurate builders here and very few rivet counters. -
More Civilised Debate On This Forum
Xingu replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lets stay away from guns and politics and get back on track please. -
That is exactly how I ended up getting a can of Testors Dullcote. In the wrong slot and didn't double check the label. I have since found uses for it though.

I merged these threads.

You could have just stated you found a photo of the decal sheet, without taking shots at another member for simply not posting a photo.

Crazy prices on the auction Bay.
Xingu replied to GMP440's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a couple of these kits (not sealed). I could sell them all (together) for that price and still make a ridiculous profit. When did the manufacturer's start sealing the boxes? -
Future furniture polish finish
Xingu replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Greg, you have taken your own thread off the rails. The future floor polish thread has some good info and I was going to merge this thread with the existing pinned one (and modify the title to reflect the many name changes of the product). Now it has gone off and started talking about common names for automotive/repair tools and pet photos. -
I flagged this so Dave can look into it.

I have to get this done in the somewhat near future. Need to replace/repair the existing driveway and extend back to my new garage.

Is the magazine getting back on track?

Locked while we decide how to handle the inappropriate/disrespectful posts. -
Is the magazine getting back on track?
Xingu replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would suggest EVERYONE go back and read the forum rules, especially the section about trolls/trolling. We have allowed members to voice their opinions about this forum, the magazine and Gregg, but it is starting to get out of hand. If you do not wish to risk warning points/banishment, I would be careful what you continue to post. -
Sorry to hear about your mom.

Trying to send a message to another board member
Xingu replied to Monty's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It is a glitch in the forum software. We have spent years trying to fix it or at least figure out what causes it. No luck yet. It will go away on it's own and reappear elsewhere at a later date. -
Our yard is actually a nursery this time of year. The does will come and drop the fawns off in our yard and go about their business for most of the day. There is a large shade tree in the middle of the backyard and it is not unusual to 5 or 6 to be laying there. Some will even be sound asleep. Wife wanted a garden so I converted and expanded my old dog kennel so she could have raised beds. Can't keep the deer out when you leave the gate open. There are still two tree stands up in the yard, but in recent years a new housing development has gone up on the other side of the trees you see in the photo. Still a couple of hundred yards between me and the next house, but not worth taking a chance.

Lifetime Subscription Swag- Let's see it!
Xingu replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So what is this now, three threads where you are trying to bash the magazine, Gregg and by association this forum. I will lock this one down. Enough is enough. -

Privileges of being the owner, you get to make the rules. Not sure why some can't understand that this place is here because of Gregg and he can do what he wants with it. How can you even question selling subscriptions to the magazine that this site is tied to. I don't remember the Bronco, must have been before my time. We have a section for folks to post links to their retail websites, we just don't allow prices, or excessive amounts of photos to be posted. Any member is free to click on the link and go to the website to see what is available and how much it costs. Listen to the folks complaining about not being able to do what they want here, now imagine it 10x worse when money is involved. Like Joe pointed out, car modelers as a whole are cheap. If someone were to sell 10 of a certain model here at a great price, someone would buy them all and immediately relist them here for $5 more each. It is in our DNA, we buy more than we could ever build and then either refuse to sell them or just can't part with it unless we double our money. Behind the scenes purchases probably started the first week of this site's existence.

This comes up several times a year. Openly buying and selling is not going to happen. There are more than enough deals that are already made behind the scenes. It is fairly easy to setup a website/forum. If you really think selling is a good idea, go ahead and set one up. Gregg already tried and it was hardly used. The only reason folks want to allow selling here is because they are cheap. They don't want to pay the eBay and PayPal fees. They also think they will be able to score that rare holy grail model for pennies on the dollar. Just wait for your next local show or use the established places like eBay. The moderators here already hear about 90% of the bad trades that happen, even though there really isn't much we can do about it. Just imagine if someone felt they were cheated out of a few hundred dollars. Folks would be quick to post on other sites and Facebook how bad the mods and this site are because we allowed this happen. We do not have the time, money or desire to setup the full time dispute center that we would need to have.

Resin casting question for the pros
Xingu replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think Speed City Resin casts them. Not sure how detailed they are or if they are fully stock. -
Shipping Kits USPS (Post Office) Sweet Spot
Xingu replied to regular guy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Most of the boxes you get from the Post Office have printing inside, so you can no longer turn them inside out. It was good while it lasted. -
I am just going to lock this one. There are enough Hobby Lobby threads discussing coupons and close-outs.

I logged out and the option went away, so I would say only members can follow other members.
