New Policy Regarding Inappropriate Posts
Xingu replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in How To Use This Board
In the past, we have asked members to change offensive avatars and signature lines, most did so without any problems. For us to moderate every avatar and signature line, which can be modified as often as desired, is a bit much for the moderators to police. I am fairly certain we have a few rebellious folks here that would love to try and get hidden messages past us, just because they can. Much easier to just not allow them at all, since it has become such an issue. -
New Policy Regarding Inappropriate Posts

We allowed the references in signature lines and avatars as they are read or noticed by a smaller percentage of folks that regularly use the board. They generally only become a problem when people bring them up to try and prove another point, and it is usually someone who has been given a warning point for something unrelated. Some of the avatars and signatures that contain religious and political quotes are from members that are dead. So someone (one of the 4 moderators) would have to manually remove them, if we even have that power. We have tried to be a bit forgiving with some of the minor things, language isn't one of those things. If we start cracking down on every little thing, like animated avatars, we sure would have a lot of angry folks. I guess we also couldn't talk about our holy grail kits. When we start cracking down on everything, I will point to this thread as why we are doing it. You guys feel cheated, when you get called out when you break a rule that has been actively enforced, when someone else is allowed to have a cross in their avatar. What will actually happen is all customizable avatars and signatures will be turned off entirely. -

Yes, #5 is why you were placed on moderation, glad you realize your mistake. While some consider this a minor offense, there are those that feel it is quite inappropriate for a model car forum. I am glad that you also proved me correct in that the posters rarely accept responsibility and continue to try and rally support to their cause. You are not the first person to get hit with moderation over our new rule and unfortunately will probably not be the last. This rule does seem to be effective though, look how worked up everyone is getting. As with all the points, we will look at when they were issued and what they were for. Making an honest mistake doesn't mean you need to worry about being banned. Showing a pattern of making the same mistake is another story though. -
New Policy Regarding Inappropriate Posts

Sometimes posts are approved in several minutes and sometimes it takes several days. It depends on when a moderator sees it, there are only 4 of us, and if what you posted contains language that all the mods should review before it is approved. Generally, the first post someone makes after being placed on moderation doesn't thank the moderators for doing their job and usually doesn't mention that they understand they broke a rule and will be more mindful going forward. They usually say they didn't do anything wrong and how the moderators are out to get them. They also usually try to rally support from other like minded members here, who will post offhanded comments and take swipes at the forum for a week or so. All your post should now be approved. -
No, it did not come across as a complaint at all. I was just pointing out the best way to get in touch with the correct folks at the magazine. While related to the magazine, the forum is separate from it and posts here about the mag do not always get seen or addressed by the magazine staff as quickly as some would like.

For everyone that has not received an issue of the magazine, you need to contact the magazine staff. The best way to do that is by using the Contact Us function on the main landing page of the website. That will email all the appropriate people. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/

New Policy Regarding Inappropriate Posts

Moderated means that a moderator must approve anything you post before it is seen by the other members. You can still access, view and post to the site. Rules are still in place. The only change is that if you post something that a moderator feels obligated to remove, you will automatically be assessed a warning point and placed on 30 day moderation. In the past, we would often give warnings and not assign warning points. That had little to no impact on what some folks continued to post. If you post something purposely offensive, abusive or inappropriate, you can still be banned from the site. If you continue to accumulate warning points, you can be banned from the site. People just need to stop and think before they post. This new rule will not impact the majority of the folks who visit this site in any way. -
Didn't someone make a Jag kit car many years ago? I hope that is what they used.

Guys, the last few comments (now hidden) should have been made via the Private Message system. They are not on topic with the thread. -
That is entirely impossible for this board. Locking this thread. Please do not start another one.

No, it is someone that better fits the description in the books

You know, if you guys would just submit your answer and then wait until the contest is over to comment, we could avoid all this foolishness.

I flagged this for Dave. I have no idea how the digital subscriptions work. -

Everyone please remember that buying and selling is not allowed on this board.

Actually, Dave has been working behind the scenes to track what is going on with these late/lost shipments. He is trying to determine if it was a fault of the magazines, the printer/shipper or the postal service. I assume you guys have reached out and contacted Gregg and Larry at the magazine.

That $6 jar of embossing powder would last you a very long time. A little goes a long way.

The debate itself is quite mild mannered, its all of the folks that aren't even participating in the actual discussion that really derailed this thread. My thought on freeze plugs are this.... They are used to clear the passages after casting a block. They also serve a dual purpose because they could give a visual indicator that the water in the engine had frozen. Most folks rarely check their oil, so looking at the freeze plugs would be asking to much. Back in the day, I would guess they used straight water in the cooling system and freezing would have been an issue. Now that most folks use antifreeze, it is no longer a concern. Freeze plugs are also much easier to say than sand removal access port cover. Rock on Daniel, that is a simple detail that folks can add if it applies to what their model is trying to represent. Thanks for sharing.

To err is human? Some are uncorrectable.

If you can't say it in church or an elementary school, without getting looks from others, it is probably on the list.
