The big guy is about four years old. I adopted him from a local rescue. I can't even imagine the circumstances that would force someone to give him up. He's the most ginger ginger cat in the world, and spends most of his time up in my business.

This is Bandit Every. Single. Morning. while I'm making breakfast. Just having a rummage around the fridge while I'm getting ingredients.

The guy is a fellow Miata owner on the Miata.net forum. Goes by the user name rloewy, so probably a Studebaker fan. There's a thread called "Motoring Around My Neighborhood" and he posts up some great pictures of the local SoCal cars. Everything from immaculate VW Beetles to Buick Invictas with 60 years of patina. Honestly, around here McLarens, Astons and Ferraris are pretty commonplace. Mostly driven 5mph under the speed limit by some old fart terrified of the whirlwind of sound and fury that one errant tremor of his right foot could release without warning.

Absolutely. Engaging with other builders is the joy of forums (especially this one). I'm a member on the Miata.net forum as well, and as fun as it is to talk little Japanese sports cars with the other members there, and as much as I've learned from and helped other members, it isn't exactly the same. Modeling is only a solitary hobby if you want it to be these days between shows, forums and social media. Looking forward to seeing how your build progresses and getting mine up and running! Speaking of the Miata.net forum, one of the members over there is from San Marcos and is continuously posting up amazing pictures of the local classic cars. I envy the car culture you have there.

I think you're thinking Rothmann's on the Porsche livery. It would be hilarious to see it on a 2CV, with the white and blue following the line of the Charleston paint scheme. Gauloises' colors are light and royal blue with a winged helmet logo, which would look cool. I like the two-tone pink as well, the idea of an all female team is pretty neat. I'm thinking about building mine as a fictional "classic era" Top Gear challenge car, which is ironic because Clarkson and Hammond both hate the 2CV with a passion. Of course no Top Gear challenge car would be complete without fake sponsors whose innocuous names turn vaguely obscene when the doors are open. Hmmm...

Awesome! I'm accumulating bits for mine right now, thinking about modifying the MPC Jeep wheels and tires for 3-lug hubs to get the knobbly-tire off-road look.

Belhaven Scottish Ale. Smooth, toasty and the head is like beer candy. Cigar City Maduro is a close second. Magic Hat #9 is my go-to for something lighter and hoppier. Life is too short for light beer.

That XK-SS is a classic and hasn't been released for years, if not decades. A new release with Revell's fantastic new decals is more than welcome.
-
Frustrating but fixable. I'll probably hold out for the US boxing though. Revell often fixes, or at least minimizes, these issues by the time they get around to releasing the US versions.

Micro-Mark sells a good one. I used it to drill 300+ tiny holes in my 1/12 Fiat Mefistofele for styrene rivets.

Thanks, I need to get out of my replica build/factory stock rut and use my imagination a little. Plus I've picked up some pretty decent weathering skills along the way that I can apply. I might try soldering brass for the roof rack, but if that doesn't work out I can build in styrene.

I just noticed this topic and the first thing that popped into my head was "2CV". The car will be named "Le Canard Pekin" (Peking Duck, "Duck" is an affectionate nickname for the 2CV). Hood-mounted spare, roll cage, bomber-style seats with harnesses. Big roof rack and lots of lights. Lots of reference pics out there for rally 2CV's too.

Noticed this morning that the ads have gotten especially bad and are displaying over topics so when you try to click on the topic you wind up on some click bait ad. Anybody else having this problem?

Decals on a non smooth surface.
jaymcminn replied to conchan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
To put it all together: 1: Gloss clear (brush-on acrylic works fine) 2: Wet your decal, apply Micro-Set (blue label above) to surface of part, slide decal onto part. Wick moisture away with a brush or tip of a paper towel. Add additional Micro-Set. 3: Observe the decal... is it starting to conform to the surface? If so you can help it along with low heat from a blow dryer. 4: If it's not settling down you can try Micro-Sol (Red label above). Brush it on. It will start wrinkling the surface of the decal. DON'T TOUCH THE DECAL. The wrinkles will smooth out. Again, low heat from a blow dryer will help the surface settle down quicker. Micro-Sol can attack some decals, so I tend to use it more sparingly. 5: After decals are set, apply flat clear (again, I prefer acrylic) to blend the surface and get rid of the gloss. -
Purcilla seems to have claimed the doll house as her own. You do NOT want to know what she's going to use the chimney for.

1/12 Tamiya Lola T70-MkIII

Looking good! Your cat's awesome too. Mine just jumps up on my work bench and starts knocking stuff off like Godzilla decimating Tokyo. -
Figures in dioramas; is it cheating to 'contract' them out?
jaymcminn replied to W Humble's topic in WIP: Dioramas
If you're openly stating that it's a co-operative build then you're ethically clear if you enter it in a contest. I'd still recommend trying to paint your own figures... you might discover you're good at it! -

Sweet. Good job getting this kit for a reasonable price... they're hard to come by. Looking forward to your build! -
Revell model kit depicts real life..
jaymcminn replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are there really more people out there who would rather have a kit of a container ship than a DB5? -
I currently have a part for my Miata from Treasure Coast Miata making a grand tour of Florida. I chose "Priority Mail" at checkout. It went from Hobe Sound (North of the Palm Beach area, East coast) to Opa-Locka (South of Miami) to Ft.Myers (half an hour away from my house) then back to Opa-Locka, and now Ybor City (Tampa, 2.5 hours from me). All in the span of 24 hours. I'm supposed to get it Saturday, which means it has plenty of time to check out the Panhandle and catch a sunset in Key West. Should have chosen FedEx...

Great idea on updating that avatar... it's been a while. A lot of my old pics, including the Porsche that is my current avatar, were taken with my old Panasonic Lumix non-DSLR. It took a really nice picture but unfortunately did not survive my idiot cat knocking over the tripod a few years back.

Thanks Eric. the two biggest challenges are going to be changing the NA6 interior to the later NA8 interior (especially the '95M low buckets) and finding a set of 15" BBS RZ wheels. Aoshima makes 17" RG's in 1/24 but they're just too big. Thanks man. I have some plans for the roadster... I'm leaning toward a resto-mod type of thing with painted wire wheels, racing seats and a triple-Weber setup.

Playing with my new camera setup today and decided to get some pictures of old builds with it. Camera is a Canon Rebel T7 with a 17-7 mm Sigma macro lens. Pics were shot at 22-29f aperture with auto ISO. Lighting is two softboxes with 400w equivalent 5500k fluorescent bulbs. Background is plain white paper. Fujimi Enthusiast 356 Speedster... Italeri Ferrari 250 California... Tamiya La Ferrari... Fujimi Enthusiast Daytona Spyder... Revell '49 Merc... Hasegawa Ferrari 250 TR... 1:12 Tamiya Datsun 240zg... 1:12 Trumpeter GT40... 1:12 Italeri Alfa 8c... ...Aaaaand that's how I spent my afternoon!
