Both models look very well done. I have a warped second version that won’t be assembled by me. Now I know what it looks like when put together with care.

Best chrome to brush paint
Oldriginal86 replied to 1hobby1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
At 63yo. my hands aren’t as steady as they once were so painting small details is not in the cards. BMF gives me a chance. I use a single edge razor blade to trim the foil. The trim on the inner edge of the dash pictured was done with foil. I could have never painted that. -

Lowering model cars and trucks
Oldriginal86 replied to Tob's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I’m using the metal axle in the rear only because there is no reason no to unless it won’t work with your wheels. The front doesn’t need the steel axle. The spindles will need to be modified for the lower ride height and will be pins of some material and sized to fit the wheels used. -
Lowering model cars and trucks
Oldriginal86 replied to Tob's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That chassis has a low stance out of the box. However it could be lower. When I was doing mine, the points on the frame where the rear axle sets can be relieved of some material to raise the axle. On the front I removed the spindles and moved them up to lower the front. I’ll try to get pictures as this has been put on the back burner temporarily. -

Really well done! Comical that it has a trailer hitch. Sheesh, only three months for this intricate build, I can’t do out of box in a year.- 67 replies

Electric NASCAR
Oldriginal86 replied to CaddyDaddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
IMHO, NASCAR has turned into a snooze fest as of late with the advent of the new generation of cars. If one would turn the volume down on the tv, would anyone know the difference between gas or electric power. As far as speed goes, can one tell if the cars on tv are going 150mph or 100 or 65? When at the track is a different story, the noise, turbulence and smell can’t be duplicated with an electric motor. -

How can I get a couple of Nova’s from you? My Ollie’s may have some jeeps. -

Awesome build! If this is the direction model building is headed, I’m light years behind. Keep up the good work and take this hobby to the next level.- 67 replies

Went to my somewhat local store today. Police cars, snap kits and Undertaker dragsters. Nothing came home. Guess I’m too late for the AWB Nova. -
AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck
Oldriginal86 replied to rekcirb13's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The difficulty getting the wheels into the tires is an issue created by the manufactures of the new kits. Who in their infinite wisdom thought that this is a good idea? What was wrong with the two piece wheels? I recently built the Moebius Nova SS with this type of wheel and managed to scrape up the tire sidewalls. -
Roll bar, roll cage material.....
Oldriginal86 replied to Allan31's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Don’t want to derail this thread but I feel its relevant. When annealing the brass, do you do the entire length or just at the bend? When bending is a mandrel needed? Does something need to be inside the tube to keep it from collapsing? Is the brass like the KBS stuff from the hobby shop or Ace hardware? Thanks in advance. -
First drag race was at Capitol Raceway in Maryland. Early ‘70’s. My dad took my brother and I just to see the races. What we saw was the “King of Kings” match races. Don Schumacher, Jim Lieberman, Roland Leong and all of the drivers I had read about in Hot Rod magazine. I thought they were there every weekend after that. Later in life I’ve been to Englishtown, Reading, and Indianapolis since.

My LHS has the Nissan Terrano kit in stock. What is a reasonable price for this kit? I don’t need it but at some point would like to try some other kit manufacture then AMT, MPC etc.
