  1. This was my early model building career nemesis. Finished it and didn’t keep it during the great model purge. Took the pic from the net, don’t think this was the box art from the kit I built.
  2. I use the Elmers carpenter glue. It has a yellow tint and as Bill said, is thick and stays where you put it. I’ve used the Testors canopy glue and had a difficult time removing it. Seemed to almost have a rubbery quality.
  3. And where would one find these? I know crazy question. Found them on Amazon.
  4. The knowledge base of the members here span a wide spectrum in their profession and yet we all share the same interest in building models.
  5. I see the OP’s point in wanting to start with box stock. It’s a challenge to build something with only what’s in the box and is fun. I have a Mobius Chevy II that I built for this class. Not finished as I feel the tires need whitewalls and I haven’t tackled that yet.
  6. There is a contest section further down on this forum. Many of them will post the rules for each category. I was surprised to see some wouldn’t allow BMF and aftermarket decals.
  7. I’ve used West Systems in the marine world for years. I’ve also used it to mold small parts for modeling. Just last weekend my son and I repaired his golf club with epoxy, one pump from each container as recommended. The left over mix was left outside on the deck so as not to heat up in the trash. The cup was melted when I checked it later. The amount left over was about the size of a 1/24 engine. Whatever is used be careful and use common sense and show pics of the final product.
  8. Well done. Nice job on the paint and decals. My favorite era of NASCAR.
  9. New stuff is looking good. Need to order an inline 6 for the next truck build. Just received my order yesterday, engine is impressive as always. The truck chassis looks like something I can work with. Thanks again for giving us modern engine options for our builds.
  10. My preferred cutting tool is a single edge razor blade. My hand shakes a bit so I need to keep my fingers close to the work.
  11. The Foose FD 100 frame is a good fit for most older pickup trucks. I’m using it for a 57 Cameo on my workbench now.
  12. My dad drove a van just like that when with the C&P phone company. I started to build a model of it many years ago.
  13. I have this vintage Testors paint rack that is gathering dust and I’m not using and my paints are all over my work bench.
  14. Once the truck reaches a certain age they are no longer considered reliable. No company wants to hire on an owner-operator with unreliable equipment. Your right it’s sad to have trucks with more miles to go to be put out to pasture.
  15. Nicely done. Be sure to post pics of the finished truck.
  16. What do you mean “stash”. That’s what I mostly use. I know there is different products out there, some say better. I like to stick with what works for me. Most of the older bottles have scars on the lid from pliers. I’ll have to try the lacquer thinner trick.
  17. Put these two on your thread. May post more in their own WIP.
  18. For me it’s the ‘64 and ‘66 Chevy pickups by Revell and the ‘60 by AMT. Mostly for the chassis that can be used under other truck kits that have less detail.
  19. I like the spinning tire idea but found most model tires aren’t round and travel an elliptical path causing the stripe to be off-center.
  20. Now your talking! Those runabout projects are fun and rewarding when completed. I could post pics of mine on here if you don’t mind for inspiration.
  21. Slow progress is still progress. I enjoy watching the torture. Trust me, misery definitely loves company. Since checking on your WIP, I’ve been looking for an all wood hydroplane kit to build. Keep at it.
  22. Along the same lines, I’m looking to paint whitewalls of medium thickness on a build. Thought was to get a coworker with a Cricut machine to cut circles on adhesive backed paper to use as stencils. One circle slightly smaller then the next. Apply them to the tire and airbrush on some acrylic white paint. Would this technique work?
  23. Working on boats is my profession. This is one my company takes care of. 1952 Chris Craft Utility. Still has the flat head engine and manual gearbox. They are nice to look at but wouldn’t want to own one.
  24. The Model Car Forum Reader: Spends all his bench time on model forums reading about other’s projects to get ideas but never putting them in to practice due to time restraints.
