  1. I had started a new thread about the lack of flat black paint when CV1984 started, but it's been disappeared. Glad I bought a bunch leading up to this dark time. First World problems......

  3. To be accurate, the hull should be painted with silicon paint. Seriously, read some time ago that it slides faster through the water, so now it can wait longer to unload.
  4. That's the great thing about this forum, especially the What Did You Get Today thread. I'm also shocked at the asking price on eBay for this kit (applies across the board too). Thanks for chiming in. Considering it's one of the first mid-engine cars they built, is why I like the honest purposeful style. Similar to the Porsche 904 too. Thanks for checking in too! Now you are confusing me, LHD when the kit is RHD, not going there. ? Note the black diamond padding, the kit doesn't have that, so will stick with painting the interior "gun metal" which is a dull but glossy silver (door panels). That car has reupholstered seats, ditching the blue, looks much better but no going there either. Because it's LHD, the cool parking brake is different, the kit part is somewhat accurate. 5 point seat belts, that's something that is kicking in my OCD, thanks alot. ? Fire extinguisher is something I've added to other projects. This is a curbside kit, so that's why I have a chance of finishing; have the Fujimi 330 P4 kit and HRC resin engine so that can occupy months of time in the future.
  5. You people posting about Hobby Lobby having kits 40% off are my problem. ? Walked out with the Revell '78 GMC Big Game Country Pickup, just wanted the gun rack. ?
  6. Once upon a time, a Freudian slip turned into _________. ?
  7. Thank you, even though not much is done? How to milk out a really simple build....... Fiddled with the putty spots, next step was to paint rare antique vintage Model Master primer on the putty, which will get sanded before spraying primer. Decided to keep the same diameter exhaust pipe for the tips. Bent upward before cutting off the ends, drilled for stretched sprue, and got half of them glued in place. My OCD is wanting to do the door windows with two pieces of flat plastic, and make it slide, see my Porsche 904.
  8. That would be the proper thing to do. If I wanted to do an exact replica of the only car I have seen in pictures, which is of course red. I have a 250 SWB kit that is missing the chrome tree, and a couple of other parts, that would be closer, but would still be incorrect. I prefer committing sacrilege, worthy of making Ferrari experts ticked off.
  9. need Bleachbit now!
  10. If I may add my two cents, American car designers have totally abused the "new & improved" look for iconic nameplates. Ford should have recycled Galaxy for this one. Glad you are going to share this build, I know it will be amazing. ?
  11. I thought the whole point of exotic models was to avoid s-b. ? I have the MFH Lusso kit, still not a slap together model. Welcome! I've shown the process on other builds, but will still do so for this. First off, I made the vacuum box. I got a Mattel vac-form "machine" a long time ago, great for tiny toys, but never tried using it because it didn't suck much (that sounds like a bad pun). I chased my tail with putty work tonight.
  12. Found on Fakebook, 280SL with a different engine, drivetrain upgraded, but sleeper exterior. Mechatronic M-SL 500.
  13. Yes I'm dredging up this old topic. ? This will be the third December when I wanted to start, AND FINISH another model for the year, looking at this kit. I'm way over my head on two WIP, so didn't feel that would bust my slump. I bought some new paint at the last contest, so wanted to try it out. Here I go, trying to park my OCD that would doom another project. Found Ultimatecarpage Ferrari 250 LM is a great source for pictures. Glued the gauge pod to the dash, exhaust tips to the pipes, deck and scoop funnels to the body. Needed to take a break. ? Getting those scoop parts glued in was a PITA, the worst area so far. Shaved off the door latches, will clean up and glue back on after painting. Shaved off the 3 latches, polished the photo-etch latches. Thinking about the exhaust tips, use the same size, or go next size up steel tubing, then go level or tilt upward. Dremel used to open up the interior door panels, and the front grill. I see each car has a different grill, ducts, and lights arrangement. Some don't have the aluminum surround, some have black painted grill, I *had to* use some p-e grill. Something else I will *have to* do, is vacuum-form the light covers, the kit parts are horrid. First paint is attempting to get a crackle paint texture on the dash. Finding sink dips and putty work is being done. Found some mirrors in the parts box, they aren't period correct but will look good. Will use a shirt pin for the shift lever. The rear window bulkhead shown in the instructions made no sense, there are no locating pins, so I figured that was asking for trouble. Makes more sense to glue to the interior tub, so the interior can be painted as one, then the window can be glued on afterward. I'm not worried about duplicating one car, just want a decent looking model of this icon. Could splurge on a MFH kit........ (and never build it)

  15. Love the subject! Never have seen this resin kit either, so am subscribed. Every car was hand built, so there are differences that only experts can obsess about. This car resides in Prescott, it's the first Ferrari (side note, the cycle fendered car that is touted as #1 is an over-restored car, this one was confirmed at a Palm Springs show, but because it's not perfectly restored is ignored). The 166MM that we have all seen, evolved from this car. Just wanted to hijack the topic and brag a little, that's me at the wheel, arm off the door because it was hot enough to fry an egg. ?
  16. missing really important
  17. You busted that slump like a pro! ?
  18. Funny, I was just looking at those kits on eBay, for ridiculous money. Thank you for posting, the best part is you finished it!
  19. I built that AMG a long time ago. It's a sweet kit, other than the wheel/tire size is wrong, too small. The tires have cracked too.
  20. I hear you. All the new exotic cars are super over designed, cool, but I sure don't wish to build them. Saw a build on Fakebook, carbon-fiber decals over the whole thing, incredible. I've reached my limit.
  21. I have the Gunze, Fujimi and Protar kits of the GTO, have not splurged on the Revell kit because my experience with that brand is negative. I found a source of decals on eBay, out of Spain, so I ordered #22.
