Best 60s Ford Mustang Kit?

David, I need a favor if possible. This is a photo from the 1967 Le Mans April trials. Can you identify the car behind the Ford MKIV, is it a Rolls or Bentley and what model might it be. Not much to go on I know but I would appreciate your help. Thanks, Gary

My introduction to 1/24 Wellys It all started about 3 years ago when my wife and I were out of town and she announced she needed some dental floss. I pulled into a Rite Aid drugstore and got the floss for her and as I was approaching the checkout spied this rack of diecast Wellys. I was flabbergasted and immediately picked out 4 models and the price for each was $9.99. When we returned home I headed to our local Rite Aid and scored some more. Now I was not a diecast collector but prided myself in being a builder since 1957 and had 2 display cabinets to prove it. But my goal now was to find some appropriate diecast models to include as background in forced perspective and diorama photographs. What I like about Wellys is they have a good mix of European and American models. Ferraris and Porsches to Cadillacs and Fords plus pickup trucks and SUVs. Now I will admit the scale varies a bit and the newer window boxes are labeled as 1/27 to 1/24. The quality of the models would be hard for me to match and the price is hard to beat. Even on eBay they range from about $12 to $20 and some with free shipping. But do be careful in the drugstore as kids play with them in the store and review mirrors, windshield wipers and headlight lenses seem to be vulnerable. I spoke with a clerk at Rite Aid and she said they get a new shipment every two weeks. I am hoping Rite Aid stores continue to carry the Welly diecasts as they are absorbed into the Walgreen empire.

Nicely done Ken. The garage is pretty nice too.

Your perseverance with the Google searches sure paid off for you.

That is amazing, though kind of sad. -
What a great find David.

Good looking builds Rex. I provided Mini Exotics a Bondo one based upon a vacuum formed slot car body. Vacuum Formed - Bondo -- Mini Exotics in photo -
By far the best build of this kit that I have seen!
-
My word Rex, what an awesome collection ready for painting.

JC, yes 1/24th and I probably added the hood scoop. Norm had a friend in Japan and I may have gotten it via him, it was a long time ago. I sent Brad a Shelby Collectible pictured above hoping he would do something like it. -
I am a little late to the party but you might like to have this art work. And these articles for background.

I was mistaken about the slab sides, RMP from Japan did a resin 289 slab side transkit years ago. I converted it to a Sebring roadster with flairs added to the back fenders from the front fenders of a Monogram 427. -

This is the only slab side in 1/24th scale that I have or am aware of. Of course it is a diecast and the wire wheels are not so great. -

K&B did two hard plastic Daytona slot bodies and they are different. They are small but will fit on an AMT chassis I believe. Unfortunately the clear glass is molded into the bodies. Here along with my Gunze and Lindberg kits. -
As I said in the other thread I really like what you have done with the garage. It is rare to see one with bare walls but I bet the majority of garages are this way.
-
I really like the garage.

Congratulations on your build. These IMC kits are quite a challenge and you have done a super job with it. Wishing you the best with the remaining assembly.

My local classic car show

Good looking show. The Daimler SP250 is a favorite of mine. Hemi V8, fiberglass body, very distinctive styling. Used to see one race here in the 60s. -
OK, pardon my point and shoot and trembling hands but here are three more Welly drug store models. I was particularly impressed with the interior detail on the convertible and the engine colors and plating. Pretty good for a half engine.

Way to score Randy! Can't wait to see pictures. I had not heard of the 65 Imp being released. My bad for not telling you to look near the front with the stuffed animals. A clerk told me they get a shipment and restock every 2 weeks. Do examine the cars carefully as kids play with them in the store and windshield wipers and review mirrors are vulnerable.

Aw shucks, if you really want a Mustang II just mortgage the farm and order a 1/24 one already built from Automodello, it is only $349.95. Also available in white. -
Three years on the primer should do the trick! The body is look really good.
