Excellent model build, very realistic.

Just got this in the mail and I am very pleased. It is the latest release by Welly, a 1/24 Corvette Split Window coupe. My only disappointments would be the tail lights lack a chrome surround and the exhaust pipe outlets are way too small. According to the web it is also available in blue.

I am in a similar situation. Retired in May. Got the diecast bug a couple of years ago when I discovered Rite Aid drug stores were selling 1/24th Welly diecasts for $9.99. Their latest release is a really excellent 1963 Corvette split window in red or blue.

Looking real good, almost subtle, I like that.

Birth Year for model cars ?
Gramps46 replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I thought my first was a AMT/SMP 1958 Mercury but the bumper says 1959. This is after I had removed the all the decals and brush painted it. -
As always great stuff you are doing there. Anxious to see more. Gary

X2 every thing that has been said. Great imagination and execution. -
Very nice looking Cobra!

I really like what you have accomplished with the kit and the added detail.

Back in the 1960's models of foreign race cars were hard to find. One option inspired by Don Emmonds articles in hot rod magazines was to carve your own in wood! Bare in mind though that references were not easy to find either except B&W photos in magazines like Road & Track. Below are my some of my efforts back then.

I have only built one and I agree this is a great little kit and you have done a great job with it.

Outstanding craftmanship! I have only had my hands on one and it was a challenge and then to see what you have done leaves me in awe. -
I don't care for the car but you did a great job with the model.

Wow! Excellent accomplishment.

Mecom Lola Mk VI GT
Gramps46 replied to Dave B's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Very nicely done David, It can be a challenge building a slot body as nicely as you did. I picked up a set of wheels for the MK 6 GT that I was told came from a 3n1 kit, maybe an Oldsmobile. Anybody have more information? -
The trailer came out of the parts box and I really don't remember whether it was AMT or SMP based.

Thank you all for your comments, I appreciate them. The body started life as a vacuum formed 1/25th scale slot car body by Scuderia Scale. Then Bill Landis and Dave Spazaro (SPL?) made solid resin castings. I took one of their castings and re-profiled the fenders and a few other pieces. When AMT reissued the El Camino I knew I had to the set.

The MAMA Boys and the Dayton Crew will remember this ensemble from the 2002 Toledo NNL. The one time I forgot my camera so thanks to Lyle for the photos. Gary
