What floor would you have under your model build area?
BlackSheep214 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My bench is in my cellar. I have tile cuz it was already there when I bought the house back in ‘98. -
What am I doing wrong?
BlackSheep214 replied to FlyingDutchman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looks like orange peel to me. Strip and start over is usually my mantra. However... you will get a lot of difference of opinions on what’s happening. Too little primer, paint sprayed on too thick, use brand primer to the paint, paint lacquer too hot, etc... I use Rustoleum brand primer 100% of the time because it’s enamel, cheap and last a long time. Plays nice with enamels, acrylics, and lacquers. When in doubt, test on a mule kit or plastic spoon. I’d love to get my hand so on the Diamond clearcoat set but I never can find it available/in stock everytime I look. My advice... strip and start over. Test on a mule kit or plastic spoon until you find your sweet spot on the thinner:paint ratio. -
Paint flames the clean ‘n’ easy way
BlackSheep214 replied to OldNYJim's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Interesting tutorial. Well thought out. Although I’m not a big fan of flames on cars but they do look sharp on those rods. Well done! -
I keep a set in my toolbox drawer and a couple I use often in my desk drawer.

Oh god... they were horrible! LOL!

At Walmart (at least one store)
BlackSheep214 replied to Classicgas's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That’s a new one to me. My Walmart hasn’t had any kits in the last couple years. Perhaps it’s a regional thing? No cameras in model kit aisle at my Hobby Lobby. Michael’s isn’t known to stock a whole lot of model kits - at least not at my local Michael’s store. -

Maybe we should post dishonest sellers from eBay? -
Anything under 50 degrees is too cold for Floridians. ROFLMAO! Mid 20s is nothing to us in NYS...

Pfffttt... that’s a heat wave. ROFL!

I’ve heard they changed their formula on BMF. Not the same as the original. I never understood when they would screw around with the original product and think the new formula would be better.

Kinda reminded me of my sis-in-law complaining about Pillsbury Ready to Use pie dough cost her $5. I told her I got the same product at Walmart $2 cheaper. LOLOLOL! Told her go to Walmart instead of Hannafords.

So my biggest pet peeve / irk very winter are folks who can’t or don’t know how to drive in snowy conditions. I’ve seen my fair share of idiots driving too fast for road conditions - especially those with 4WD trucks who think they’re invincible in snow. Only they end up in a ditch or hit a guard rail. Oh especially on bridges. Don’t they know bridges ices before roads? Apparently they didn’t learn that winter driving life skill. Pet peeve / irk # 2: Folks diving waaaay too slow for road conditions. I get it they’re being cautious and drive slow for road conditions during snow squalls. But driving at 10 mph or slower when the driver in front of him is miles ahead going a hair under 30 mph.

No... it’s not just models. It’s called INFLATION. Everything has gone up besides model kits in case you hadn’t noticed. Gas, groceries, etc...

Wow....sounds like that Karen needs to get put in her place. If it were me, there’s no way I’d give her that parking spot. She was 2 cars back. What did she expect? Entitlement?

Yup.... basically the idea. LOL!

Took a sick day today to do some Christmas shopping for my wife since I couldn’t find the time to do it. With my area losing Macy’s and JC Penney’s at our local mall a couple years ago but left us with Kohl’s, Target, and Boscov, it sure doesn’t leave much of a choice to shop. So, I drove to Syracuse Destiny Mall and got far more accomplished in one big mall. All is left is to buy one or two things, then I’m done! Yup.... it was a pretty good productive day today.

Good luck on ordering model kits thru HL. I’ve heard stories HL sending wrong kits because they don’t know the difference between a Revell, MPC, or AMT model kit.

Shelby American wins Eleanor lawsuit
BlackSheep214 replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw the headline about it on MSN. Didn’t click to read it but I agree 100% with Can-Con. It is a customized Mustang. It’s funny some folks can’t comprehend that a Shelby Mustang is still a Mustang. If it drives and growls like a Mustang, it’s a Mustang. The Shelby badge, stripes, body color is just cosmetic stuff on a freakin’ Mustang! -
I know exactly what you mean. I, too loved.... I mean LOVED those old Monogram kits especially the Tom Daniels Design kits. They didn’t fight with you building them. I’ve done so many of the old Monogram kits during the 70s & 80s, the list is very long. I was a huge fan of MPC kits as well. I’ve been on the hunt for the oldies kits of my youth and I was fortunate to acquire quite a few kits (including some I wished I had) I’ve done for another go around. Who remembers the Revell Pink ‘57 Chevy Low Rider kit? LOL! Scored on that kit a few years ago from a fellow in another forum I belong to. I found another kit I’ve been looking for for years and about to place the order on it.

Reissued kits

That would be a great idea! If only Round2 would listen to their hobbyists or take your idea on board on their website. Perhaps in different categories. Round 2 could require a one time log-in for all to submit a survey request.
