Amen to that! And the interior parts too. And since you're doing it in 3d, you could pretty much make anything to fill up the back of a van. How about the work bench and accessories from the 75 Dodge van, ambulance parts, crates and pallets, even the missing window parts for all three van kits. You could start a cottage industry on an untapped resource.

Recieved wheels from GMCMAN52. Parts were much better quality than I expected! Hope to return the favor, John.

AK Interactive Ultra Gloss Varnish
Oldcarfan27 replied to Intmd8r's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not sure about the brand, but past experience has shown me that varnish products, while shiny, have a tendency to yellow something fierce and may not harden completely. I'd err on the side of conservative and say, If it's for the final finish, the color may not look the same in a few years. I'd avoid it. -
66 Fairlane comparo
Oldcarfan27 replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks, but I'm just wondering about comparing the "new" promo vs. the "new" kit. I know the original kit has the right feel and look to it. I have a few of the remastered 66 Fairlane kits, but the body just doesn't have "IT" (the look). I wanted to know if the remastered promo is worth looking out for, to use as a kitbashing exercise. -
AMT/Revell '55 Chevy Kitbash
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My suggestion would be to simply graft the complete sedan roof and partial trunk area from the AMT 55 to the far superior Revell 55. Better yet, use the roof from the newer Revell 56 sedan, as they were both from the same master, so dimensions should be about the same. -
We all know that the original annual and promo has better body proportions than the remake, but... Does anyone have the 90s pseudo promo to compare with the 90s kit? I saw a simple 1 shot picture of the black/red promo online and it looks like it has a better roofline and windows than the kit, possibly less boxiness in the overall body shape, but I'm not sure. Has anyone compared the newer tools of each to see if they're different? Thanks for the help.

Dodge D-50 Navy Pickup
Oldcarfan27 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That's a great job on a forgotten kit! I remember years ago, I wanted to change the wide wheels for something stock - I used the skinny plastic wheels from the MPC Datsun 620 p/u. They fit perfectly and the steering remained fully functional. I don't know why MPC didn't include something like that in the kit originally. -
I noticed the same thing. It's like satisfaction surveys - people like to complain more than be content with what they have. BTW, I have never even opened the "Irked" thread - I have no desire to wallow in that mire.

You might try checking out fabric stores, Wal Mart or five and dime stores for buttons that look like that. It's a very simple shape, conceivably very "button like" Hope this helps.

Me too, great car project you sent me. I'm satisfied! Thanks, Johnny.

Was supposed to be an option, but shortage of blocks limited production. So option was dropped from Grand Am at the last minute. Even the Firebirds were delayed and hard to get, that's why they're so rare. BTW - Motor Trend or one of the car magazines at the time named the SD 455 Grand Am the "Car of the Year". A car that doesn't even exist!

FYI - I'm not sure if your Ranchero GT decals are like this but... The side and rear panels have color in the middle with a separate black border. The Ranchero 500 is the model with the aluminum tailgate panel in black and silver. I own a 75 GT, so I know the details well. Look on "Dearborn Classics" website for detail pictures.

Whatever it is, it's good to know that at least somebody's finally working on Axle Foley's "piece o' junk, sky blue Nova" ?

Did you ever stop to think that this car might have been THE car that Shawn used to make the casting molds for his resin copies. Just a thought. Nice job on the colors!

Glue Bomb Rescues and Survivor Restorations of 2018
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Cars
What I like about your saves is that you essentially preserved the original builders work and intent. Thereby saving the cars as a look into the past. Very interesting way to complete so many models! -
Suggestion: You could always sand down the parting lines on the roof and just cover it all with a vinyl top. Problem solved.
