  1. The GMC pickup is the Game Country truck thats out now. Other than the wheels/tires and the lift spacers and shocks/springs, I don't think the truck kits were any different than the regular releases. You could probably recreate the Bronco and the Ramcharger using those parts from the current GMC kit. I remember seeing the Camaro and Chevelle kits in stores back then and thinking they were dippy looking - until I saw people had made REAL ones just like them! Come to think of it, the LUV pu was possibly a unique 1 time issue, because it contained 4 wheel drive parts that weren't included in the regular issue, I think. I bought and built the Bronco and the LUV pickup back then. Fun kits, easy to build and looked great afterwards. I too would like to have them all now.
  2. I appreciate the advice. I know, I will work on those with him. He picked an easy kit to do basic painting techniques, so we worked on the major components together to complete this project quickly. I wanted him to have something tangible to see the results of his work without having to stress out about the tiny details right off the bat. We went through it in about a week, and he's been staring at it and rolling it around the table since then. I'd say "Mission Accomplished!"
  3. Thanks all, I'll show him all your comments, he'll be stoked! I did show him the first light strokes and taught him to start spraying paint before he gets to the part and stop when he's past it. He caught on quickly and sprayed the final coats. I taught him to be patient and let the paint dry and not finish it until the next day. He used drops of super glue at the contact points to assemble it and built it himself. He's been building for a couple of years and gets better at making cleaner builds each time. This one is the first one where I showed him how to use spray cans. There are small imperfections, but I feel he's on his way to be a great builder. I know my kits are in good hands! Signed, Proud Papa! ?
  4. Great footage! So much has changed and so much is still the same. There's a lot of things that I wish were still there, like the big lake, the miniature town and the model T racers. Also miss the haunted shack. Good times. I'd love to take my kids to see the old Knotts! It's almost 100 years old! Sorry for the diversion - BACK TO THE DOODLE BOPS!
  5. Last week, I helped teach my 13 year old son how to spray his own paint job. At first we were going to do it all black, like a Model T, but it looked too boring. Then, I remembered I had some dark green and light yellow in the garage and we found a 1:1 car posted online in the same colors so that was it! He still has some small details to finish, but he's almost done. Hope you like it, he's so proud he was able to build it. He likes these old timers. I joke that he was born in the wrong century. The inspiration....
  6. That trunk is large enough for ALL the instruments, the stage amps and Mike's knitted hat! Nice job!
  7. Only on Sunday's and slow days, when they don't have enough guests to fill the "Full size steamie". We have the annual passes and my kids LOVE this place. Knott's workers are so much more relaxed and gracious to their guests. We think it's a much "happier" place than that other spot in Anaheim! Easier parking and better food too! No I'm not sponsored, I just like it there.
  8. Yes, I have a bellybutton, so here's mine. This car doesn't look too far from stock to me, at least it wasn't "Foosified". However, I'm done with the pimp-daddy lowrider look and the dog dish caps do not fit with the Lincoln prestige that this car is supposed to have. Where were these cars sold? I've never seen a "Ford/Mercury" looking Lincoln like this here in the states. And it definitely has Lincoln emblems all over it!
  9. How much is admission into this yard? I see some stuff I want.?
  10. Anybody else wonder why AMT never reissued the 60s Corvette roadster with the rotating headlights? It's because they need to reissue this kit to get them. (Hint, hint) Makes sense now: neither kit has been out ever since. Here's hoping the original tool still exists and that they didn't use it to create the 63 roadster that they currently have. This 67 is classically cool.
  11. Regardless of the year, the patina and overall look is great for a "Fun Bucket!" I wish it was real.
  12. If it works, go for it!
  13. Maybe they know what time of year it is! Did you see any skeletons or black cats there? Ooo scary!
  14. Problem I see here is he has the mouse chasing the cat!
  15. You know, automotive touch up paint. The kind that always ruins the bodies when you don't want it to. Practice on something else first. Spray light coats from a distance to test for texture. The heavier you spray or the more coats you use, the more inconsistent it will be. Don't use this for the color, only for the texture. You can sand down some of the texture before painting. Spray enamel or acrylic paint for the final finish. Hope this helps.
  16. So the kangaroo sat on the engine cover? Can't imagine a lot of room up front for a driver, a passenger and a large, nervous animal in that area. Must've been a fun ride!
  17. Hey, I just noticed the Bullitt car chase going through town! I wonder how many hubcaps this Charger lost. 6 or 7? My son and I always talk about how we want to build a train layout and what elements, themes and "hidden Mickey's" we want to include. On one corner, we want to do a "Back to the Future" theme with a miniature Hill Valley and old west with a certain DeLorean jetting between them. Another idea we have is to set up a desert scene like the movie "Cars". And somewhere else we want to build a 50s theme with nothing after 1958. We thought about building a table with a large mountain in the middle as a dividing line, to separate multiple themes from being viewed at the same time. And run trains on long tracks behind the scenes, so as to keep them from looking like they're running in circles. I've also thought about synchronizing different scales of the same train at different locations away from the point of view, as a sort of "forced perspective". To make it look like the same train is going farther away into the distance. Ah, so many dreams, so little time.
  18. Why? That thing was hideous! The ugliest van idea they did. I guess it was based on a movie, but the movie bombed and so did this kit. I can understand the raised roof cap and the bay windows on the side. What I don't get are the space alien dome and the lumpy, tongue sticking out of the front. Probably designed by George Barris. However, I WOULD vote to include the custom parts in an all inclusive 8n1 version, van kit though. That would float MY goat, for sure!
  19. Interesting point. Ferraris used to be ahead of design trends - now they're just part of them. Not very unique.
  20. Did you ever see the operating Lego trains! Very Cool. Let's just be glad there are other builders buying model cars!
  21. I've gone to train shows with my son. He likes the trains and I like the scale dioramas. Miniatures are miniatures, I appreciate the effort it takes to create a scaled down world. I saw one town done in HO scale with an operating TORNADO tearing through it - Fascinating! I'm just happy that some builders have a sense of humor and don't take their hobby too seriously.
  22. Great story you've depicted. Truck's not running, is a rusty, dented beater and the guy's still trying to sell it! I wish him luck! Looks good - 'er "bad"!
  23. Thanks, David. Great parts, just what I needed!
  24. Hard to imagine one of these getting abused down to this point, but since it would've been just a used car in the 80s, I'm sure it was possible. Your's sure is a realistic depiction of how it would look. I especially like the open door "guts" on the drivers side. Cool job!
