Serious 3D printing inquiry...
Tommy124 replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dann, to be honest, I am not quite sure about your inquiry. Do you mean how many others here might be interested in having such a kit ourselves or do you mean how many would be interested in seeing YOU build one? -
That looks nothing short of utterly beautiful!

Looking great! Is that the engine from the Fast & Furious kit and the tail lights from a '68?
-
Excellent result! And a great choice of color, nice to see something else than silver, red or black for a change!

Another bad day for Kyle Petty

I second that - well done! -

Thanks a lot, Tom, Carl and David! Your kind feedback is appreciated. -
Nice build! It looks like you used thin solder wire or something similar as a chrome trim? Maybe make a little "cut" into that where the front fender and door are separated by the door crack/ panel line?

Great build and I also love the weathering. It's just the right amount of it, and applied in stunning fashion. I also like the fact that you made pre-/ and after-race photos (clean/ dirty car). Not a lot of people think of that. -

Thanks Chris and Craig! I agree, I think you can see that on first sight. The front section alone on that kit is done so realistic that it beats the AMT and Revell full kit easily, IMHO. The kit is pretty hard to find over here by now but I managed to grab another 3 kits which are on their way to me. I love the car and so I'll definitely do more of those. The one I built lately, I would consider it mild custom style. I will do another one that will be more stock-type (it'll probably have Magnum wheels) and yet another one that will be done in a more "mean" custom style. It'll definitely have the wheels set to the lowrider height. And that leaves one kit, I might consider to open the hood and try to combine the body with the Revell full kit. Has anyone here done that before? -
I have used this technique occasionally. IMHO the downside is that styrene/glue mix is likely to contain small bubbles which may appear no sooner than after sanding, making it necessary to fill and sand again. However, as we know that the application of glue helps to prevent ghostlines, this is a good way to go for filling panels lines etc. I did it on my Porsche in order to fill the sunroof lines and it worked well: Yes, the CA is much harder than styrene once it's dried. That's why it's important to apply a CA layer as thinly as possible. See Dann's tutorial here: And as (almost) ever, Tamiya have a product solution to this: https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/87187/index.htm This is a "softer" type of CA, designed especially to be easily sanded...

Comission build; 1/25 1966 Mustang shifter -TOTAL scratch build.
Tommy124 replied to Dann Tier's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have the feeling that's what's Dann doing already, at least in his "extensive" builds... -
Great idea, great progress! Looks like they switched to using Camaros by now though... :

Great job on the carbon decals!

Boy, that looks great! Can you please show an image of the original shifter? I'm sure it's perfectly replicated but I can't seem to find an image of the right one... -
@Randy: maybe you will find some answers in the WIP on a German forum which linked below. To me, this is probably the best WIP I have seen and for certain the best Daytona Spyder build. https://www.wettringer-modellbauforum.de/forum/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=33969

Thanks everybody for your positive feedback! I enjoyed the build and I must say that Revell really did great on detailing the few parts this kit has. My favorite part of the kit, without any doubt, being the front section with the grille and the rather realistic-looking headlights. Thanks David! I have learnt that the wheels in this kit are similar to those fabricated by Billet. Imho they make for a nice compromise between classic Mags and modern wheels. Also the ride height can be adjusted on this kit, either to "normal" or "lowrider". On the last picture, I set the front wheels to "lowrider". Do that on both sides, and it look even more "mean"... -
Both models look outstanding!

100% agreed and some great examples on this forum have shown already how good racing cars do look in "street livery".

Great work all over! I assume you will yet clean up the white paint next to the water tank?

I hear you! This kit is far from great. Wonder how I know? You did well on yours however. The Watanabe wheels are the right choice for this car, although I believe the Fujimi kit needs a slight bit of lowering (which is what I did on my build). As regards Gravity Colors, I second your opinion. I ordered twice with them (Spanish vendor) around 1 1/2 years ago, and it all went fine and pretty fast. In fact, they were so fast that I couldn't add another color to my order 2 hours later, one which I missed to order in the first place.

Looking great! I should say you're on the home straight now at 200 mph...
