Just Missed Out On A Dehydrator
NOBLNG replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have two of the Salton dehydrators…one in the basement and one in the garage. I have had them for years and they have both been working perfectly. The one in the garage runs continuously set at the lowest temperature. The one in the basement I turn on and off and frequently adjust the temperature. Maybe Bainford had different versions or just bad luck? -
Thanks Guys!? I’m nearly done with it. I got the front and rear lights finished. The canopy glue I used for the tail lights hasn’t dried fully yet…it may take awhile. The backup lights I cut from a windshield washer jug to get the frosted look, and the reflectors are X-27 clear red. I closed off the area in front of the radiator for better airflow and so you can’t see the ground when to look at the engine bay. Thanks for lookin’!?

Tool for adjusting 3d printed window openings
NOBLNG replied to stitchdup's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I thought the title meant you were talking about a software “tool”.? Here is a trim scriber I made from sharpened and bent wire for deepening trim lines. And later I modified the design for scraping recesses for windows on the inside of castings or styrene kits. -
Looks darn good to me Len.?

AC 289 Sports MkIII, starting with a Monogram Cobra

The body looks beautiful Matt!? Good luck with the suspension modifications. -
These are the sheets that I have gotten locally. The evergreen is red, but they must have it clear too I would think? The 0.010” is what I used for this ‘53 Corvette.

I have used that method with kit chrome and might try it here if my paint under foil doesn’t pan out.? Yes, and there is too high of a chance of destroying it.? That could work too??♂️ I am pretty certain that if I tried grinding off the backside, that I would have to take up one of the generous folks on here on their offer of a spare grill.? Thx guys! Here is my first attempt at the paint under foil method. The foil is a little precariously attached at the center. If the foil doesn’t want to stay put well enough, I may foil it completely, then paint it completely, and then remove the paint where necessary with a pointy swab as per Jim’s suggestion.?

Resin 64 Chevy Crew Cab Pickup

Here is a thread on how I cast my differentials Karl. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/159946-4wd-differentials/#comment-2438156 -
Thanks David. I spent what seemed like hours yesterday scraping the remaining original pre-chrome coating out of the recesses, and smoothing out the area where I filed the center bar out. They will look better next time around. I typically do everything at least 3 times before getting it acceptable in my eye.? The Chrom/Pledge side doesn’t take paint very well, so I will be going with the foil after paint.

Sweet looking Olds! Well done!?

It’s looking really great Jim!??

Pretty much. I did spray this into a plastic shot glass and then transferred it to my airbrush, but it sprays good from the can too.

I sprayed the grills with Chrom and after a few days in the dehydrator, I dipped them in Pledge. I didn’t sand the grooves well enough, so I stripped the passenger side one, sanded it a bit better and then foiled it. I am amazed how well the foil stretched and covered it. Before I stripped it, I did a test of painting the slots with XF-1 flat black. It wasn’t easy even with a 16/0 liner brush.? I might try painting them black, then foil, then remove the foil from the recesses.
-
This is BMF on the left and Chrom with a pledge dip on the right. The parts have to be stripped and the recesses smoothed better, since I did a rather rough job the first go round. I like the Chrome better, but I have to paint the recesses black, so I’ll test to see which one is better for painting before I strip them.

TESTORS AIN'T WHAT IT USED TA BE...
NOBLNG replied to Mothersworry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Is that in your workshop or your survival bunker?? Looks like you have the same purchasing system for model kits too.? -
Here is a shot of a ‘41 Plymouth grill. On the right is the Chrome that I sprayed through an air brush and dipped in Pledge. On the left is BMF. I didn’t sand the slots smooth enough after modifying the grills especially on the right one.
